Looks like a weekend deal, cheapest price it’s been as far as I’m aware.

  • A great robot vacuum cleaner! great find!

  • +1

Seriously, I spent ages last year researching these. Had never heard of the Roborock, but by the end of watching countless videos, was convinced.

6 months on, it was definitely the right choice. Was the S5, so can only hope the new S6 is even better, but wow, we just hit go and walk out the door, and it does a better clean than we would.

Only issues - sometimes it'll go in the laundry/toilet and bump the door closed behind it and get stuck. The app lets you know, but it's just a bit annoying.

Best feature: It fits under our bed / sofas, where we wouldn't normally even vacuum, but the dog spends a lot of time under there. Perfect!

  • Ahhh I'm waiting for S5 Max :(

    • Any indication that we are getting the S5 Max in NZ?

      • Mid of the year according from xiaomi NZ FB chat

  • I have their original one, it's very helpful. Not sold on the mopping function with the newer model. Without the ability for the robot to differentiate between hard floors and carpets and when to mop automatically, it's a gimmick.

    • as far as im aware, on the app, you can say which areas you want mopped and which areas to skip (not automated, but you just need to manually define). i dont own one, but i got that from videos ive watched on these. this functionality was definitely mentioned in s6 and s5 max, not 100% sure about the older models.

      • Yes, syrys is correct. You can set the areas that are hard floors and therefore mopped. Need to manually add the water tank to do the mopping.

This is a good deal, cheaper than when we got it during the BF sale. We got the S6 after doing lots of research. It works very well and we’d recommend it.

  • Having S5 for last 8 months. Brilliant thing I ever bought. S6 even improved with room mapping. Definitely a hell worth price. I got S5 for $699.

  • I’ve bitten the bullet and gone for this deal today (thanks OP). Only hesitation I had was wondering when the S5 Max might become available here as that model seems (from the reviews I’ve seen) to have better suction which might suit our newly purchased, soon to be moved into, more carpeted than hard floors, home. Looking forward to trying it out in a few weeks time (too many packing boxes around the current digs to be bothered unboxing it for now…)

  • For people who've used this, how would it handle staircases? My lounge is directly connected to the stairway and it could potentially just drop down the gap underneath the 'fence' if it's too dumb to handle it

    • drawn on the map no go zones or virtual walls

    • Even our S5 - we have a patio with a 2cm? drop down, and it detects the edge and doesn't 'fall' off it. Heard rumours if you have a really dark (black) carpet it sometimes thinks that's a drop and won't go on it, but don't have one to verify.

    • Yea usually these things can detect the cliff and don't fall off.

Other options would be magnetic tape barrier under the carpet or on top of carpet or no go zone in map.

In the past I've noted the generated map had rotated 90 degrees between vacuuming. This buggered up my zoned cleaning (using home assistant and Google home to do things like hey Google vacuum the lounge). Not sure if this bug is fixed but if this did happen you might end up mopping the carpet???
