  • yea signed up to them last time they offered this. The $99 termination fee is not huge, so if you want to save the most you could just use the 6 months 1/2 price then switch provider at that point, making it approximately $56.50 p/m for the 6 months.

  • They give you a decent router as well vs what you'd get from Spark or Voda

    • yeah nice asus one with 4 antennas. but I think you have to return?

      • +1

Yep, they'll charge you $90 for it (which is an okay deal) if you terminate, but will refund you if you return it.

        • do they provide you with some box to mail it in?

          • +1

@huffboy: Yeah, they'll send you a postage-paid bag to return it in.

      • from their website saying it's asus 56u. not bad, but i want their ac86u haha

    • Spark’s new smart modem isn’t bad at all (and by extension skinny and big pipe as well)
its worth about 1 or 2 month of broadband if you do decide to sell it.

      • Another Huawei I'm guessing? I've always had bad luck with their modems. Best ISP-supplied one has to be 2degrees' Fritzbox.

        • Arcadyan, not Huawei.

          4x4 Wifi AC
          Band-steering and beam-forming
no 32 device limit (it's 54 and 64 per band if i recall the numbers correctly)
4 Gbit Ethernet ports (LAN 4 used as WAN)
          VDSL/ADSL Modem inbuilt

          • @Zyo: Interesting, I've never heard of them, and I didn't realise Spark had moved on from Huawei. Good move, considering the stigma surrounding that brand at the moment.

            • +1

@Plug: Well if you believe American propaganda you wouldn’t be using anything made in China . I’d be more concerned with having Facebook/chrome tracking my online activity rather than a modem from Huawei. They make good hardwares and are widely deployed by isps globally.

              Arcandy is less reputable though.

              • +1

@Zyo: I'm posting this from my Huawei phone, so I agree with you. I just mean from a PR perspective it'll be good for Spark. Given it's a smaller manufacturer I assume cost is probably playing a part here though.

  • Yes good router, allows you to instal vpn on it. Good customer service too.

    • Which VPN does the router support?

      • Any you can get the settings for. I have purevpn on mine if I need it as pptp, it supports others but I haven't figured out setting those up.

It also has a VPN server, not the fastest VPN server as I only get about 30-40Mb download once connected to it but it is handy as an always on option to log in to our home securely from the outside. I've got that working on open vpnand pptp as well.

    • At the end of the 12 months can you keep the router?

      • yes buy they will charge you for it, probably not worth doing that.

  • Hmm I'm already on Stuff since last year and paying $85/mth now , any way I can get them to give me this deal? :(

    • Talk to them if your out of contract they should be able to do something!

  • I am currently with the Stuff Fibre, and not happy at all. It doesn't feel like the fibre most of the time. Disney+ / Netflix /Neon( doesn't matter which) , are lagging, Fortnite from PS4 or computer shows pure connection most of the time. Maybe they provide that 1GB for the nearest router, but after that, seems that they have pretty poor throughput capacity. I am actually thinking about switching to something different. Thought maybe Spark with Netflix could be a way to go, but not sure, and not sure how to replace telecom in these quarantine times.

    • I'm with stuff and using netflix, Disney plus and have ps4 pro playing fortnite no issues at all. Which router you using? Have you spoken to them about the issues? What's the distances between these devices from the router?

      • It's probably depends on where you are living. I am in Lower Hutt, and connection to Wellington servers is pretty decent, but anything outside of Wellington area, and issues begin to come. For example, right now speed test shows 100mbit to Wellington servers, but to Sydney is only 20 mbit. I don't think the issues are lying within a router, because from time to time it works fine. Like later in the night, Fortnite works fine , but if you enter when it's a peak time of day, and then connection is stuffed and shows red.

  • I'm also with Stuff Fibre, got one of the 4 months free deals from Broadband compare. The bundled router can't do 1gbps but otherwise the speeds I am getting from Stuff Fibre are really good.

For reference on their network, they are just reselling https://devoli.com/our-network so if it's a problem I would be raising support tickets.

  • Thanks, I just switched to Stuff fibre.

  • does stufffibre support VLAN tagging and voip? I'm using VLAN tagging with slingshot and I use my voip phone as the landline, I wonder if stufffibre supports it.

  • Got a new connection (100/20) starting today, using this offer. Supplied Router (Asus-RT58U) is much better than other ISPs and speeds are great!

  • +1

Is there a promotion end date for the referral link?

    • I don't believe so. Or at least they haven't specified one.

  • i just got my connection today, speed test is around 400/500. Download not reached, but upload reached, how strange. tested both on wired and wireless connection

    • Same here I just got my connection today, getting about 500mbps download when I do speed test on wifi.

I have noticed they mentioned this(below) on their website from their website, wondering is that something to do with the router they provided?

"The ASUS RT-AC58U comes with two WiFi networks. The 2.4GHz network provides greater range and gets through walls better, but offers lower speed (usually around 70-100Mbps per device). The 5GHz network has less range but can operate at up to 200-350Mbps."

I were with Orcon before on Gigantic Fibre and getting 900+Mbps everytime I did a speedtest.

Should I talk to them about this?

  • Has this offer expired? I went on their referral website, it still says 6 months half price, but when I try to sign up, it changed to 4 months half price.
    https://stuff-fibre.co.nz/referral/friend

If it's not expired, can someone re-generate a referral code please?

    • I tried with my own link and it still works 6 months half price.

    • I just sign up with the referral and it's 6 months half price for 12 months contract, just remember do not "edit your order" when you at check out, this changed the deal from 6 to 4 months.

  • If any moderator see this can you please flag this as active deal, i just sign up with the referral successfully. And can anyone tell me where can i find my referral code?

      • Awesome nachos!

Do you have any idea is this number matter?

The default URL Parameter on cheapies is (cant edit)
        https://promos.stuff-fibre.co.nz/191020-raf.html?vc=

but my referral link have a different number
        https://promos.stuff-fibre.co.nz/200417-raf.html?vc=

        Cheers

        • +1

i can only go by what cheapies referral system says, so that number shouldn't matter. Assume someone in cheapies has had a successful referral via the referral link system in cheapies.

  • Hi, just switched over and I work for Chorus so I'll offer some tips.
If you want seamlessly transfer then ask Stuff to be through as a new connection rather than a transfer from your old provider. Service will be activated on the second port of your ONT in most cases, plug the new router into that, make sure its all working then put through a disconnection with your previous provider.
You don't want to be stuck in the middle if these ISP start having disputes between them.
    Cheers

    • Thanks for the tip! Also don't forget even with no contract many isp's want 30 days notice of cancelation, so don't get stuck paying for two connections.

  • Have switched to their boost plan about a week now, just to share some experiences.

    Pro:
. Great local customer service, most problem got solved straightaway on the phone.
. Quick enable of connection, good way to add 2nd connection instead of transfer.
. Good modem, especially if you already using Asus(AiMesh)
. No CGNAT, good for your VPN/GameServer/whatever.
. Cheap Static IP ($50 one off)
    . Good price.

    Con:
. High latency most sites (i.e. Google - 35ms vs. 26ms on Spark)
    . Slow international connection (i.e. HK/SG/US sites - ~220ms vs. 160ms on Spark)
. Throttled download speed - you won't achieve 900mbps speed like ever. Back on my Spark connection my download from Gdrive shot to 900Mbps straighaway when started. With Stuff, it goes up slowly and never reachs full speed.
. Throttled upload speed - again, you won't get 400mbps. When uploading to GDrive/OneDrive, it occasionally get to 200Mbps then quickly back down to 30-40mbps and FLAT LINED, clearlly throttled. You won't get good speed for your cloud backup.

Considering it's price on a 900/400 plan, it could be a good choice for some people but the throttled up/down making 900/400 plan MEANINGLESS. I can understand if you throttle on p2p download but not for traffic like cloud down/upload. Bit disappointed and I think I'll go with money back guarantee.
    .

    • What ISP would you recommend then? Been with Orcon and found them great - haven't used Spark before though

      • For what it's worth: Slingshot, Orcon, and Stuff Fibre are owned by the same company (Vocus) and share the same network. I didn't notice any difference in performance when I switched from Slingshot to Stuff last year, and my IPv4 address even stayed the same.

  • Thanks for all your comments and view points. Have been with Trust Fibre (madness but made sense at the time), so was trying to weigh up the options/ providers.

  • For anyone who want to sign up this deal, I think Stuff fibre have increase the price overall by $5 to $42.5/$85 for 100/20, and $47.5/$95 for 950/400

  • Just sign up with referral from Cheapies, hope someone got a month free!

  • Got my internet stopped working at 8:10PM Saturday night. Phone Stuff fibre and they are suggesting to call between 9:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday
