Never get how this works. Whats a good example of a deal?

    • Get something that has a huge markup normally, like a charging cable or phone case etc. Items with slim margins won’t have much reduction to offer.

  • Thanks for the share

Just an FYI from the fine print:
    * An additional 2% surcharge applies when purchasing items on a credit card

    • Dont tell them your paying on CC it will still work when you go to pay

    similar deals been posted before.

it's not the cost of the product. it's noel leeming's cost (ie product + overheads +staffing) then add their margin reduced to 5%.

better than no sales but not exactly a must buy.

  • any examples? kinda like saying "pak n sav has stuff on sale"

It is only worth it for items with huge markups like HDMI cables etc. For the other stuff you are better off waiting for a sale.

  • Hi, I’m a first responder.

We get these promos from time to time. I’m pretty sure the last time I went in didn’t manage to find anything.

If anyone has any success with this please let us know :)

    • Yup, generally sales to push high volumes, clear stock or direct competition sales are much better.

If you're in the market for a television or other big ticket item, most of the time you're better off waiting for a sale like last week where it was about 20% off the big brands.
If you're after cables, cases kinda things then you'll generally do well in these sales.

  • Sounds like a Briscoes type sale…LOL

Everything in their store is already being sold at cost, if you doubt it just ask if they can do a better deal on any item… nope sorry, being sold at cost already

    • Electronics are often sold close to cost because the market is so competitive (phones, laptops, etc). Accessories and whiteware is where the big margins are. Whiteware often has 100% margin on it. Accessories such a bags, cables, sd cards etc often have even more.

My obligitory post whenever I see these deals pop up:

I used to work in the Warehouse Group (I had the cost + 5% discount whilst I worked there).

Electronics such as laptops, phones, and popular items are often sold at very low margins (anecdotally 5-15% markup on average, sometimes less in the case of Apple produts). This is because the market is so competitive. So often you'll save more when the retailers have 20-30% off sales and sell below cost.

The big margin items are whiteware (often 100% markup), accessories like laptop bags, sd cards, mice, cables, etc (often more than 100% markup), and extended warranties (mostly profit, I used to get 3 year warranties for $5-10).

Also you'll find their in-house brands generally have much higher margins that big name brands like Sony, Apple, etc.

So there are defintiely deals to be had, it just depends on what you want to buy.

  • Actually a lot of electronics from the big brands offer rebates for the sales, so the TVs and phones are sold "below cost" when on sale.

    • Correct, but not during these cost+gst sales.

  • I wonder if any of the canon stuff will be included. Just got a new mirrorless camera from noels (via themarket) a week ago, wanna get some lenses!

I remember I purchased a $1500 lens when I had my cost+gst discount at Noel Leeming, got about $350 off.

  • AV accessories excluded. Does soundars and speakers fall under this category?

  • Anyone have an idea of markup for PC peripherals, eg mice and keyboards?

  • This was pretty bad. I went in there to get a TV cabinet (which I know have huge margins), I was offered the price of $700 with the essential workers discount. Whereas Harvey Norman offered the same for $600 with the essential workers discount. Noel Leeming are seriously rip-offs.

    • Hard to say. NL could have purchased that cabinet at a high price, hence low margins. Just goes to show that you can't be suckered into their cost+gst sales, and always do your research before making any big purchases.

  • How about power banks ? There is a 20% off sale On them now. Should I use the cost plus 5? Will that make it any cheaper

  • The TV are apparently more expensive with the cost + 5% voucher compared to the QBW sales the previous weekend. Not useful at all.

  • Thank you for this. Dropped the phone and needed to get a new screen protector for IPhone 11 took the price down by 50%.
