  • Geez, NZ is well behind with offerings, most people have access to that speed and a spare PC that'll cost less in power. On a positive note you get a static IP?

    • It's better then some other offerings in NZ - https://www.vpscity.co.nz/virtual-private-servers (as an example!)

You get 1 IPV4 address, and can request IPv6 to be enabled - IPv6 should be live on my home connection again next week so will get it enabled and do some testing.

      • Yeah, a lot better. I just remember more than 4 years ago I got a VPS that was based in Chicago with 2ghz processor, 2gb ram, 100gb disk, 1tb bandwidth on 1gbit connection for about $5/month.

What are you using yours for?

        • Currently running a teamspeak server and Huginn (A self hosted IFTTT) on the Advanced plan - Will probably install a few more things on it later on but going really well so far

        • @taneb1:

          Any downtime?

        • @Shaw: Not that I've noticed so far, have set up uptime robot to monitor it so will see how it goes.

good to see some low end pricing offered by nz providers

FYI Their twitter team said they would happily install any TUN/TAP/PPP etc kernel modules if needed. I assume there would be some limitation to common/standard ones but this is useful as some openvz hosts will not.

    • Yep, As @eXDee mentioned, we will happily enable kernel modules that anyone might need.
(for VPN use) by default you can use FUSE and GRE, if you drop us a ticket we can enable the TUN/TAP interfaces and PPP also.

      Cheers,
      Adam

Just noticed that the annual payment option is significantly cheaper, equating to 10 months worth, so if you choose that, and apply the code, even more savings :)

    • +2

Good catch! Hope you enjoy the, even cheaper, deal :)
Oh and thank you for inviting us here too

Not a problem mate, if it means more customers for your company, as well as a better experience/exclusive deals for our community here, then it's win win for everyone.

  • @Rep, what hardware are you guys running? The IO is fantastic, hitting around 1GB/S …

    • +1

We run an array of 4 SAS drives in raid-10 with an additional (smallish) SSD as a cache. We found this is probably the the most cost-effective solution for storage, without too many negative effects on the performance for the end user or redundancy.

EDIT: The rest of the hardware consists of basic DDR3 ECC ram and dual E5's

      Regards,
      Adam

      • Sweet, will keep an eye on performance as the boxes' fill up, it's nice at this stage!

  • Other than the dirt cheap 50% discount coupon we also are offering an alternative promotion for a free Zappie Host T-Shirt.

To be eligible for a free shirt the client must use the promotion code "FREE-SHIRT" on any of our New Zealand or Canadian server plans. Then proceed to open a support ticket to let us now where to send the T-Shirt and size required. (Postage is free and on us :) )
