Nah wifi only
Nice. can you use other apps or just the xiaomi ones?
Yeah man just picked them up, surprised to see that they are not only google assistant and alexa compatible but also Apple Homekit compatible, so once setup is done you can use any of the apps to control them.
Yeah need the official app to start with, and then grant access to the likes of Alexa.
Does make me wonder about cyber security in terms of how secure each of the various light bulb manufacturers own apps are etc, but the Xiaomi is a major player so you'd hope there's is ok.
As for the bulb, it works but it's not super bright. Not entirely sure how people use these really.
Remember you'll need to keep the power on all the time, and use something to turn the lights off.
Turning the light switch will turn the light on and off, but if it's off at the wall then no app is going to make it turn back on again.the bulb is plenty bright as it is 950lumens. That means its brighter than the Phillips hue which are 800 lumens. I can vouch for the brightness of the bulbs as they are brighter than my mates who have lifx mini and Phillips hue. The only brightness aspect in which these bulbs suffer is colours. The Phillips hue and lifx bulbs get much brighter when they are in colour mode.
In terms of security, If you access point allows, set-up a seperate WIFI network for your IoT devices and not allow them access to the primary network.
Do these require any sort of hub/controller or do they work standalone with the app?
