  • Thanks, got some. I prefer these sealed packets.

    https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/finish-powerball-classic-re…
Almost the same price per tab.

  • It's cheaper to get it from chemist warehouse if you don't mind picking it up from the store.

    • +2

you're right. It's crazy how cheap Chemist Warehouse is… I know their an international company (aus i think) but since they have come to NZ they have been my go to for anything like this.

I know NZ Pharmacist hate them but their prices are so competitive…

      • Pharmacists hate them.

But in all seriousness why do they hate them?

        • Due to the fact they discount the $5 prescription government surcharge, meaning they are taking a loss on prescriptions. They make this up by expecting you to spend 30-90mins in their store buying stuff like finish tablets.
This also devalues the pharmacists service, as people seem to expect all pharmacies to be free.

          • @rkl: Oh sweet! Didn't realize they did free prescriptions, thought that was just countdown

    • As mentioned below, those aren't the same thing. Finish Quantum Max is close to the highest range. I think Quantum Ultimate which is what you're getting from Countdown and New World is higher although it gets confusing with all the different ranges especially adding parallel imported ones into the mix.

You can see Finish's list of feature differences here https://static.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/ams/media/pi/79075/2DB… . It's a little low resolution (and other versions I found seem similar https://cf.shopee.vn/file/bee91643e1d3234195f733f0a34739ed but you since it's English text, you can still sort of make it out.

Classic only has the basic "features" of

      powerful cleaning and pre-soaking action

I've never been sure how a tablet which when you put in the dispenser as often recommended, is supposed to presoak (hence why I tend to still add powder for the pre-wash dispenser) but whatever :-P

From what I can tell, the "features" that are supposed to be in Quantum Max but which are not in Classic are

tea stain, salt function, rinse function, grease cutting, low temperature action, filter protection, machine limescale protection, glass protection, silver protection, shine function

You see similar "features" listed on the Quantum Ultimate packet https://static.countdown.co.nz/assets/product-images/zoom/93…

cuts through grease, tea stain removal, machine limescale protection, low temperature action, removes baked on food, filter protection, glass protection, wrapper free, silver protection, first time stain removal, power of gel and powder, our best clean

Possibly the bakedon food and first time stain removal are supposed to be Ultimate features which aren't in Max, but I'm not sure. And I think those Classic ones may also be wrapper free as they're moving to that for all given environmental concerns etc. If you have a Quantum Max packet, you will probably find a list of features on it as well although like the Quantum Ultimate it may not show the lower range ones.

Whether you will actual notice a difference will likely depend on many factors including what you're washing (the material, how dirty it is, whether it's baked on etc), your dishwasher and the cycle you use, etc. If you don't notice any difference you probably want to also consider just sticking with powder. A 2kg bottle for $8 is very common at Pak'n'save. If you use 25 g per wash that's 80 washes so loads better $19 for 110. Even if you use 35g that's still ~$15.4 for 110 washes. (If you have a decent scale, weigh you bottle before and after a few times. Remember also to compare like to like. If you always add powder for prewash even with tablets, don't take that weight into account.)

      • Took a photo of the back of one of the clearance products https://files.cheapies.nz/upload/535/3053/finish_quantam_max… BTW the ones I bought seem to be manufactured about a year ago

Basically same thing. Classic has pre-soaking and powerful cleaning.

        Quantum Max has

        • Cuts through grease
        • Rinse function
        • Machine Limescale Protection
        • Low temperature action
        • Removes baked on food
        • Filter protection
        • Glass protection
        • Wrapper Free
        • 1st time tough stain removal
        • Superior Shine
        • Silver Protection
        • Power of gel and powder

So fairly similar to before although seems Quantum Max is supposed to have baked on food removal. One thing I forgot to mention before, fairly sure these lists are tailored for local situations. Hence why UK and maybe NZ may have tea stain removal listed, but not US or some other places. If it's only for NZ, they may not bother with stuff related to hard water.

Also I assume it's theoretically possible that fancy dishwashers may use high temperatures or more water depending on what product you use. (I.E. the price difference between products may not be as simple as it seems.) I don't mean because they sense the product, but because however they sense how well the dishes are cleaning or how dirty they are may be influenced by how well the product cleans. But it may not be so simple, e.g. a product which cleans better could actually result in a more vigorous cycle since the water is dirtier. (And if you soak or manually scrub some items, it's also likely to be quite complicated if you are able to reduce or avoid that with different products. Especially if you use hot water for it.)

  • I saw two of the 110 tablets for sale at crackerjack for $30, but that deal might have expired

  • If you are willing to stock up 4x110 for $65 ( $16.25/110 or just under 15c each)

  • Aaaand it's gone. Expired thanks.

    • Still showing 60 units in stock for me

    • Hasnt expired. I just ordered 3…

      • Roger that. Tried again just now, and successful! Thanks.

  • Does Quantam Max Powerball work better than Classic Powerball?

    • supposedly so, hence the difference in prices

    • Yes, it has Max Quantam

  • For what its worth, I try to never pay more than 16c per tablet - if you buy in bulk at that price (I often buy 200, maybe more depending on the pack size, so about six months supply for us) you should be able to wait it out until they are that price again. Its not like they 'go off' (at least within that kind of timeframe).

Also, I have never seen any obvious difference between the basic Finish tablets, and the more expensive ones. I can't say that there is no difference, just that I haven't seen any. I guess it might depend on your dishwasher - maybe an older machine might need need the extra cleaning power, but having said that, our last one was at least ten years old, and no difference I could see.

    Alan.

  • Still a bunch at Lincoln Road if anyone lives nearby

  • How does it compares to all in one max from Finish ?

  • Plenty packets in Cambridge store this morning.

  • Remember to use free delivery code at the Warehouse and your Warehouse money card to save more. I went for the 4x110 packets
