  • i bought 4 item off aliexpress like a week or two ago from different seller all got back to me and said to cancel orders as they cant't ship them

interesting. I've never had an item cancelled due to not being shipped. I bought something as recently as 3 days ago & its already shipped, with tracking

      • yeah its weird 4/5 item i bought could not be shipped :(

        • Which shipping option(s)?

          • @Plug: 2 where

@jamesdeal: I had one seller during 11.11 who asked me to pay more for shipping or cancel, I didn't even notice and so never replied and they gave me what seemed to be a fake tracking number with Sunyou. It claimed to arrive in NZ, but was way way too fast for a delivery during COVID-19 and also never showed up at my house. (2019 I had another 11.11 order, a torch with a lithium ion battery where the seller said it was impossible to ship to NZ and ask me to cancel but I also didn't notice and eventually they claimed to ship but it never arrived although I think that seller's tracking number was less obviously fake.)

All of the other sellers shipped without comment but a bunch of them still haven't arrived, I'm thinking they're not going to. These are small items without tracking. Actually I only had one item without tracking show up. My tracking orders did show up but took about 2 months unlike in the past were it was maybe 3-4 weeks for 11.11 orders. Another order from January again with tracking took nearly 6 weeks. That was AliExpress Standard Shipping along with one of the 11.11 tracked orders i.e. were they send it to NZ in bulk, I think probably on a container nowadays, and it's sent out UCL Co. Ltd. The other 11.11 tracked order was China Post.

I have heard from others that Cainiao shipping never seem to show up in NZ any more.

I've had a bunch of orders fail to turn up entirely lately. Prior to this they were pretty reliable. Sellers gave refunds, blamed the pandemic

  • can we claim these coupons now or do we have to wait until 29.3.21?

    • You need to wait. Note that often these coupons are limited and get used quite fast, so it'll probably be better if you decide what you want now rather than waiting. The sale prices are coming soon so you can work out what's worth buying, There will be more coupons during the sale, but I wouldn't count on there definitely being as good coupons still usable by the end of the sale on 3 April. (I don't shop as much on the anniversary but on their 11.11 I have noticed they seem to be stingier now than in the past.)

Although someone has OzBargain seemed to have no problem with lots of new accounts, I know a lot of people have at least when I looked into it in the past. Maybe they're less strict with Australian (and so probably NZ) addresses or something or they've given up on cracking down on it, but there were a lot of users who tried and failed, generally they found their orders cancelled for security reasons (or some message to that effect) after they placed them with the new user coupon. To be clear this wasn't because of the sellers, sellers can't cancel orders like that, they can just ask you to. IIRC, it happened almost instantly so was clearly some automatic detection system, not a manual review.

Most discussions in English of people trying seemed to involved Indian users, probably in part because it was at the time one of the places with a lot of English speakers who used AliExpress and maybe also for socio-economic reasons (i.e. they were more willing to go to the effort than people from some other English speaking countries). This was maybe 3 years ago hence why there were still a lot of Indians using AliExpress before the recent troubles. Also found reports from Russians etc with similar problems although they were harder to search for and to read so I didn't look at them so well.

I did find some reports of success, from what I read generally the more you disassociated your new account from your old account the more likely you were to succeed. I.E. different IP address although probably not a VPN, different payment method, different or at least modified address etc. Still it was also a bit random with some people using the same payment method, the same IP, same exact address like the user on OzBargain and having no problem; and some having a lot of details different and still having the problem.

Hence why I mention this, I'm not sure if it's easier now or that user is just lucky for some reason. One thing may help is if you have a lot of orders without the new user coupon or at least a lot of expensive orders, I imagine if you're just just buying $5-10 orders with the new user coupon, it'll be something which AliExpress is more opposed to than if you're placing $100+ orders (whether with the new user coupon or a sale coupon or whatever) and sometimes small orders with the new user coupon.

It's possible that this wasn't just because of abuse of the new user coupon but also for genuine security reasons i.e. they were worried about fraud if a new user started to use a credit card that had been used before although IIRC some people placed one or two orders without the new user coupon then the moment they tried the new user coupon that order was cancelled.

I actually did do it once for different reasons (*) as well as another time 9 years ago or so. The recent time, I did use a different browser, different IP, obscured address, different payment method (my card had recently changed) and my order wasn't cancelled. Although for a while after my initial orders (IIRC I did actually place a first order without the coupon then an order with the new user coupon), my new account seemed to get limited. I couldn't claim those popup coupons during sales on the website only via the app on a phone, it would say you need to use a different device for security reasons. However it's possible this was because I had used the app on an Android emulator which I think they also didn't like I assume because it makes it easier to automate stuff. (Don't ever do that with WeChat!)

(*) The different reason was because AliExpress decided I was abusing their refund process even though all of my requests were legitimate with good evidence and banned my main account. At the time, it seemed impossible to get anyone to review the ban. You'd ask on the live chat and they would say they were putting a request for it to be reviewed but I'm pretty sure no one actually bothered. Hence why I had good reason to ensure my accounts weren't connected by AliExpress and looked into this carefully rather than just trying and hoping for the best. It was also about a year since my old account got banned IIRC.

  • Power banks are prohibited to be imported to NZ, so the sellers cancel the orders.

    • The seller is bullshitting you. There's nothing preventing power banks being imported to NZ, otherwise you couldn't buy them here. (Outside areas of biosecurity concern i.e. organic stuff, NZ has very limited regulations requiring importers to get special licences or permits to import stuff so 99% of the time, if someone else is importing it you can too without much effort provided you pay the tax etc. Selling stuff you imported can be a different matters.)

It is true that powerbanks like all products containing lithium ion batteries can be difficult to import non commercially since most shipping companies either don't allow them or require strict packaging and labeling requirements. This comes about since shipping them on aeroplanes, especially commercial passenger airlines, is prohibited or again has strict requirements. I'm not up to date on the current regulations but especially large power banks may be even more difficult. The simple solution is to ship them on a company which will actually ships them i.e. send them here by boat. I think AliExpress Standard Shipping will probably handle them since they do phones but I'm not sure since I believe NZ Post regulations are a little weird so possibly they have difficulty shipping them locally.
