Not as good as the US$75 Lifetime deal(targeted) but still a decent deal.

The benefit of Plex Pass is really with content hosters, not so much with subscribers
The main benefit i see from plex pass is for streaming on the app on my phone. + viewing details about my server is really handy as well
Personally I find the 'Skip TV Show Intros' feature alone is worth the price. That was a great addition
You may also be able to get it from Brazil I think it was? I got the lifetime pass from there maybe a year ago or so, someone posted it on here so might be worth looking into that if its an option still.
Yes 'Brazil' option still works (just used it). I had to try 2 different cards saved within Paypal before it worked (first got declined). In the end it cost me 399BRL which is $109NZD (once Paypal converts it)
What does the hardware acceleration option mean for Plex Pass? I have the free version and never had any issues playing back 4k hevc files when streaming from my very old i3 htpc to my 2020 samsung tv, does the hardware acceleration improve playback quality? That's the only thing I'm interested about.
Only useful if you are transcoding.
Cheers, I don't know what that is so I'm guessing I don't need it ;)
when streaming plex, go into activity and see, (it will be direct play from the info you give).
outside of your local network should need transcoding.
Was anyone able to get the Brazil deal working? Visa debit failed for me
Trying using Paypal. See the top comment here. https://www.hotukdeals.com/vouchers/plex-pass-20-off-for-wor…
I tried but it fails because my PayPal account is in NZ.
yes, as above
If anyone is looking for a cheaper option, Jellyfin is worth looking into. It's open source and pretty much does 80% of what Plex offers for free.
Works on desktop, has a decent mobile apps and AndroidTV app is coming soon.
What's the advantage of Jellyfin over the free version of Plex? That seems to do pretty much everything most people need, and it's supported on more devices.
plex is more supported, more refined, jellyfin is free and open source and will improve over time a good alternative if you dont want to pay for the app.
Any feature that you would pay for in Plex, you would get for free in Jellyfin.
These are the ones I mostly use
* non gimped phone app
* live tv
* multiple users with parental control
* media downloadThe software is still in it's infancy so there are still some missing feature (i.e. skip intros) but for the most part is works pretty well for me.
But if you're happy with the free version of plex and don't need any premium features, then it's probably better to stick with it since it's more mature and has a wider reaching eco-system
A few years ago I really wanted to get Plex but let's be honest, no one has the time to rip their own content or keep downloading to share with plex..
Syncler + Real Debrid is a real winner with all the content that I would ever want in 1080p-4k.
No need of running your own server etc
Rate Real Debrid highly. RD + Seren + SkyGo (friends acc) + YT premium (India) = everything I need television wise.
How much does YouTube premium through India cost? And can you use it for multiple accounts or nah?
Sick of seeing ads on YouTube TV app
using the search function you can find the post - https://www.cheapies.nz/node/19982
@wellydeal: Oh cheers!
Indian YouTube is fantastic, once you get past the Bollywood recommendations in YouTube music we have a family plan for just a few dollars a month. I actually set up a dedicated Indian Gmail account and just added our actual Gmail accounts to the family.
I'd also research what a family owner can do with your account before signing up to be in their family. I can't remember exactly what they can do but for the sake of a few dollars it's not that hard to set yourself up.
Is Synclear one of those PopcornTime type app?
Sort of but way more advanced and stealthy. It's not torrent based but provider based. Don't need VPN if you are using with Real Debrid.
I run it on my nvidia shield and most media plays with full 5.1 sound and inbuilt subs etc. It works perfectly on my phone and tablet too.
It's got all the content from Netflix,Amazon and Disney.
Have you got a link to a guide or something to get this up and running? Also how much is the whole setup?
@Kibo: I can link up soon, roughly syncler premium is like $2.5a month and real debrid is $5 a month.
@Kibo: If you end up being keen on Real Debrid, hit up Fastdifference for their referral link.
@Wakrak: guide link and referral code too plz :)
@Golfdish: https://troypoint.com/syncler/
Easy to use guide. Can be used to get things running on any android device
@Kibo: https://syncler.net/ - official site to get apk
Guide - https://troypoint.com/syncler/
Skim through guide to your liking.
1st install takes a while, getting premium key also takes about a day. It would feel like a Mish but once ots installed it's so so good.
I've had a local 8TB Plex Server going for the past couple of years, any tips on getting started with making the transition away from physical hardware to a cloud-based solution like what you've mentioned?
I usually just use the Plex apps to watch wherever (as long as my server is running), would something like Syncler be a suitable replacement?
The Plex media server is limited to only I download but I think it was worth it before we could get fibre.
I'm using radarr / sonarr / jackett / ombi etc…
Got all those setup and running on my linux vm for ages. Everything is running behind a vpn. Initially setup is bit painful, but once done you don't have to worry too much. Effectively all can run on a raspberry pi as well.
You can also look into Usenet instead of paying for VPN?
@hsran: I tried sonarr and usenet ages ago but kept getting wrongly named files downloaded.
Tried Kodi Addons with real debrid which streamed what I wanted to watch but was not overly happy.
I now just log into RD and download what I want when it comes out and store on a portable hard drive.
I did use Plex for a while then after a update I just got buffering all the time and stopped using it.@Bagman: New builds of Sonarr & Radarr are much better now. I get like maybe 1 download in 6 months which might get not correctly recognized after download. I really never cared about file naming as everything gets stored within it's folder which Plex use to scan. So correct folder name is all that matters to Plex.
Like —>
English Movies —> movie a —> file…anyname.mp4 or whatever.
Kids Movies —> movie a —> file…anyname.mp4 or whatever.@Bagman: I run both of them in a docker container along with nzbcoughget. With custom formats and profiles, it's so easy to automate 99% of the process.
Never had issue other than with non-English titles.
@hsran: Main problem I had was some muppet uploading tv/movie files with a totally different tv/movie file in it.
@Bagman: I use torrent with pia VPN transmission container. Have maybe 64tb I think, once you start you can't stop.
@kiwijunglist: I just use RD now for getting files of file sharing sites and torrents for the older/harder to find movie file.
And yes, it is addictive :)
Real Debrid is worth it, have been using it for years.
If anyone else wants a refferal, just send me a PM as well.For those already subscribed to Plex, just go to Account -> Subscriptions and cancel your existing one. Then navigate on the same page to plans and select Lifetime and enter discount code "MEDIAGEEK" and subscribe again.
Credit to OP for this.
Plex is amazing… changed my life :) It’s like having your own personal Netflix service that you can share with family and friends.
