I haven't been able to find these in NZ until now, especially at this price! Great deal for what is essentially a supercharged Chromecast with Android TV built in.
Apparently it doesn't come with a power cable but from my research it needs a USB-C cable and a wall adapter or a TV capable of providing 5V 1.5A.
What would be the difference? Would I still be able to use it as a steamlink sort of solution like with the nvidia shield
is it higher spec than chromecast ultra?

It uses a USB-C cable and requires 5V 1.5A.
Note if you want to use a USB-C passthrough hub you'll also need a beefy power supply, like 60w according to Reddit.
Found this out the hard way, not even the Macbook USB-C charger works. So if you need Ethernet you'll need to buy the compatible ethernet charger on Ebay (~NZ$30)
How does this compare to the one Dick Smith sells? Assuming their one comes with a charger as well.

Is there any benefit to this above what a smart TV can already do (has Netflix, Plex, neon etc built in)?
Not much
Chromecast, Android TV, and probably snappier than a smart TV.
Seeing as it's based on Android TV, probably a better experience than most smart TV's offer. But otherwise, not really.
if your tv is a full android distro then your tv has full access to the play store, this chromecast device can only install certain apps
you can install unsigned apps with unknown sources checked, one main reason i ordered to try watch youtube without adds.

I have two of these, they only require 7.5 watt brick or I.5 -2 amp, ( small fast charger brick). They don't get as hot as the old 4K model, they are way faster than any of my smart televisions that's why I use them and also, I can get Apple TV which I would not really recommend.

Wondering how this would work in a shared flat. Presumably you have to use the same account for everything so all the watch histories would get jumbled. Could maybe make a shared youtube account..
How does this compare with the SmartVu V11 which is very similar and is sometimes available on sale for the same price?
