3.75GB for $16.50 per month Or 5.81GB for $21.50 per month @ 2Degrees

130

This is a refresh of this long-running old “loop hole” deal stacked with several other current ones:

This is how it works:

  • Purchase the Noel Leeming $55/Month Prepay plan and sign up for new 2Degrees account to get (usual) 10GB + (bonus) 7.5GB = 17.5GB.
  • Change to minimum prepay plan in the following month to continue carryover data - i.e. the $10 prepay plan.
  • Purchase the best GB/dollar carryover prepay plan when you start running out of data down the track - i.e. the $70 prepay plan.
  • Change back to minimum prepay plan in the following month to continue carryover data - i.e. the $10 prepay plan.

Across 12 months, it works out to be:

  • if you purchase $70 once: $16.50/month for 3.75GB of data.
  • if you purchase $70 twice: $21.50/month for 5.81GB of data.
  • if you purchase $70 thrice: $26.50/month for 7.88GB of data.

I’ve put a spreadsheet together to break down the calculations and added in some comparable plans from other competitors.

Bonus:

1 hour of Data Clock for the months you purchase the big plans (unfortunately no longer available for the $10 prepay plans).

Side note:

  • If you are willing to spend ~$26.50 for your prepay plan the Kogan 365 day plan 180GB might be better value for you - note it’s 15GB per month that doesn’t carry over.
  • The calculations only apply for the first 12 months due to the limited time bonus 7.5GB carryover. But this method is still best value if you use less than 5GB/month on average.

Or you could buy Kogan Mobiles $5.00 for 15gb for 30 days deal rather than 2degrees overpriced charges .

Buy Spark mobiles sim cards for $0.99 from PB tech then when you 30 days is up move your mobile number from Kogan to Spark . Once moved over move it back to Kogan the same day then rinse and repeat . Make sure you disable to auto renew on the Kogan mobile app so you don't get charged at the end of your 30 days. I've been doing this for 6 months now and paying the huge sum of $20.00 per month for 4 phones each with 15gb per month of data . The money you save on your mobile bill will pay towards your next holiday away or your next shopping trip . Lastly to do the above you will need to use a different email address each time including when you are ordering from Kogan . Creating a new email address on Gmail is free and only takes a few minutes .

    • Or you can use the Gmail DOT trick say your email is [email protected] put a . In there like [email protected] any website will think it's a new email and it goes to your normal email. I use this all the time

Another alternative is $0.50 for a 2degrees sim card from PaknSave. Activated, sign up using a referral code on TheMarket before transferring your old number. Grab two $20 off coupons to make the most use of a new number.

    • Kogan don't check credit cards being the same across multiple accounts?

      • As far as I know, they don't check, but even they do, use your visa debit card and credit card, ASB Visa Light (free), Amex Airports (free), Warehouse Money (free), Farmers (get first year fee waived), etc. There are a lot of free credit cards.

    • Thanks, will give it a shot when my current 2D month is up.

    • Not a bad idea.

Although when I purchased the $1 for 3 months of 15gb Data last year I found Kogan's coverage to be rather dreadful outside of the main centres.

I live in the CBD but work all over North Shore/Rodney district. I got no complaints in terms of coverage from Kogan.
Coming from someone who switched from Vodafone to 2 Degrees/Kogan (Dual Sim card phone) and been using it all over these places.
Happy with my cheap Data from Kogan :)

I was travelling within the Waikato then on to Taranaki and in between towns and cities my Spotify would often stop streaming and my Google assistant wouldn't work.

Had no complaints in the city though.

You can use the same credit/debit card across multiple accounts without any issues I can confirm .

  • Can you share your data with other users like you can on the non prepay plan.?

    Edit: you can't. https://www.2degrees.nz/help/mobile-help/sharing/shared-data

  • My wife currently is with 2 degrees prepay. Is there a way she can do this and keep her number?

    • Potentially, would need to port out to a different Telco. Set up a new number on 2degrees and port the of number to the newly set up 2degrees account.

She could just purchase the $70 prepay pack and switch to the $10 pack for subsequent months until she runs out of data then switch to the $70 pack again for another month. The $70 pack has the same data/dollar value as the $55 starter pack for $28 from NL.

  • Hiya,

Silly question but how do you get the extra 7.5gb bonus (new 2Degrees account to get (usual) 10GB + (bonus) 7.5GB ) ? I have bought the $55 pack (for $28) from NL and registered.

T&C's for bonus, mentioned, number transfer, but how do you get the discounted $55 pack via 2D website to get the bonus data ?

Sorry if this is confusing. Have I missed a step or code ?

    Cheers
    kenny

I called 200 and it automatically activated the $55 prepay pack. The bonus 7.5gb was loaded automatically the next day.

I didn't transfer number. I think the T&Cs said it can take up to 48 hours for the bonus to be loaded.

      • Oh, was in a rush, thank you for your reply :) !

  • Thanks, just picked up a new sim to switch over 👍
