Sonos Beam Gen 1 (White, Floor Model) $499 @ AV World (Price Matched at Noel Leeming)

30

Just tried price matching online with Noel leemings and they matched AV worlds current price of $499 for a floor model… May be hit and miss with who you get online though.

Note that this is for the older model but still a good deal considering Sonos gear doesn't go on special much.

I have a sony 5.1 home theatre, will this little sonos beat my sony?? Any idea?

    • W/out knowing what model 'sony 5.1 home theatre' you have no one could have 'Any idea'.

      • HT-RT40 5.1ch Home Cinema Soundbar System
        600W total power output
        5.1ch real surround sound
        Wired rear speakers and subwoofer

        • RMS + Max Power of both devices ?

Max doesn't mean much, RMS is a useful piece of data however.

        • This is just a soundbar, your setup has a sub and 2 satalite speakers

          • @coffeee: I see, makes sense now, thanks heaps @coffeee

Just note: it's the Gen 1. Don't need the new features? - then it's a great speaker.

  • Great entry level sound bar, very underwhelming compared to the Arc though.

    • Arc as in HDMI Audio Return Channel? How does it compare with a soundbar?

      • +3

I think they meant Sonos Arc soundbar. It's a more expensive soundbar from Sonos compared to Beam.

    • Both soundbars are excellent, I have them both. Top marks at What HiFi.

  • You also need a newer TV with eARC for tne 2nd gen model, as regular ARC doesn't have the bandwidth for Atmos.

I've got one of these and I really like it.

    • Do I need a TV that supports HDMI eARC?

No. Beam (Gen 2) can connect to TVs with eARC, ARC or optical outputs. For greatest compatibility, eARC is recommended.

If you connect to a TV with eARC, the Dolby audio formats supported include Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, MAT, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby Digital.

If you connect to a TV using ARC, the Dolby audio formats supported are dependent on your TV model and manufacturer. The TV may be capable of sending Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital. An ARC connection cannot support TrueHD or MAT.

If you connect to a TV using the optical adapter, the Dolby audio formats supported are dependent on your TV model and manufacturer. The TV may be capable of sending Dolby Digital. An optical connection cannot support Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, MAT, or Dolby Digital Plus.

      • Fine, you don't need it, but you get no benefit over the first gen model if you don't have it.

  • There's a user (not registered, jianxin) on this site which has purchased the $99 Joby (Selling for $269 on marketplace), this Sonos Beam (selling on marketplace for $699), the samsumg 980 Pro 1tb which was on here for $229 (he's selling for 299) and the Quest 2 that was on here for $958 for 2 (selling for $650 ea) these type of scalpers gets on my nerves. At least let another cheapie buy it who will ACTUALLY use it
