thanks Wakrak
also don't forget cashback with themarket
Canvio basic & advanced are essentially the same drive apparently advanced just comes with software (which you don't really need)
Bonus is basic comes with type c connector
https://www.toshiba-storage.com/products/canvio-basics-usb-c…I’ve seen a few yarns on here saying that cashback isn’t working at The Market. I don’t use those particular companies so haven’t bothered to look.
Yeah as the previous thread it can be hit or miss especially if you don't set things up prior to doing it.
I've always setup the cart then clicked through on kiwiwallet via private window and gone straight to checkout and made the purchase.
Generally haven't had any issues that way with a 90% success rate. But yea treat it as an extra bonus that you "luckily got"
@Huntakillaz: Anyone having issues using kiwiwallet at the moment? I tried to click on theMarket via kiwiwallet and it's showing me this "Sorry, we are currently unable to offer cashback on any purchases for time being. We hope to bring you some soon."
Awesome, thanks! Perfect use of that $10 coupon they sent me.
Anyone want to buy one and find out if it's shuckable? I wouldn't mind buying a few if they are.
Apparently the latest gen have the USB controller build into the drive, so it's not SATA > USB but USB coming straight out of the drive itself.
But as to how you can tell if it's USB? You have to measure the length of the exterior case or open it up.
Seems so, meaning if the usb controller/port fails you can try self solder or its gone right?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU7wu3b_Nngreading youtube comments and stuff, probably would stay away unless it's for non essential data like games, linux iso etc
seagate is one of the few brands still using a Sata connector.
Tempting but read some horrible reviews on Amazon Au about these
https://www.amazon.com.au/Toshiba-Canvio-Advance-Portable-Ex…seems mostly positive? do bad reviews like this have any credibility? "Although advertised as 4 TB, this turned out to be only 1 TB"
the drive will be fine, amazon reviews will always put you off, they have 2 year warranty.
Got a 4tb for 112.30 but look to be gone off the market
whcih coupon?
Must be a $20 off $99 spend coupon
yeah that's the one had an account sitting round with one I had never got round to using - still 1tb and 2tb available on the market with $10 off $50 coupon to use as mentioned above
For a portable drive you really want an SSD based one rather than a mechanical one like this.
Spinning discs and portability just don't mix well.
I use a USB 4TB portable for Plex media. I still don't get why a portable 4TB is so much cheaper than the 3.5" desktop version, but… oh well. Maybe longevity and warranty, but I don't move mine or stress the drive.
I don't think 4TB 3.5" are very popular any more, not really worth it for most use cases. If you look at price per TB, a 12TB external/3.5" can easily be cheaper than this e.g. they were regularly going for US$200 about a year ago. Prices went up easily but still seen them at US$230.
That really has to depend on your use case, and your habits. You still get far more GB / $ with a spinning disk.
If you hardly ever move it, then no big deal, and if you always allow it to fully spin down before moving it, then you are not likely to have issues caused by moving it around.
Consider that until recently (last ten years or so) laptops all had spinning drives, and they hardly ever failed within the usable lifetime of a laptop, unless users were treating them poorly such as moving the laptop around while it was running.
Alan.
anyone still hasnt used the codes that would like to share?
If you're referring to The Market, many of them are account specific unfortunately. 5% off sitewide is still available however. If you're referring to The Warehouse, just join MClub.
aah, nah ive already used mine aye. didnt knew it was account specific. Cheers tho :)
I could be wrong though. I'm just going off this comment by sunshinenz
@Wakrak: Coupons might not be specific, but once you've added to an account it can no longer be added to another account even though the coupon hasn't been used.
Both 4TB are out of stock online and in most stores. (I actually suspect all stores and it's just a stock error but who knows.)
There's still some in Warehouse Stationery's website.
Thanks although not anymore it seems. No matter wasn't really that interested since larger externals are fine for me. Was just wondering if family and friends might want tohe,
arrived today
On The Market too for those of you who still have $10 off $50 coupons.
