Cheapest price I think I've ever seen this camera go for - even with the tax etc. A good thing about the ARLO essential range is they don't require a hub to work so they can just run off your wifi.

  • What does it mean by one year life battery? Is there cloud storage without the hub?

  • Recharge once a year, probably every 8 months ,6 months free cloud storage then monthly ,still works without cloud storage.

    • Can this be linked to my Arlo Pro 2 hub for local storage?

      • No

        • Good to know. Cheers

          • @L3tstaxth1s: My mistake yes it does connect to that model Arlo Pro 2 hub (VMB4540) I thought it only connected to the newer models.

            • @pdevonporf: Oh well that does makes things interesting for me… Could do with the 3rd camera ;) cheers

              • @L3tstaxth1s: Just be warned that from what I could find is that it apparently doesn't tie in with the 7 day rolling recording with the Pro 2 cameras though. Once the subscription finishes you can only live steam it. It doesn't record it like your Pro 2 cameras do apparently. I have taken the gamble and bought one and figure I'll just subscribe to the one camera thing for $4.99 per month if need be..

                • @pdkm: Thanks - I read the same - but thought that I might be able to use the local storage thru my current Pro 2 hub. Ie, continue using the 7 day free cloud storage for the existing Pro 2 cams and local hub storage for the Essential cam.

  • +1

Be aware of subscription fees to watch/save recorded footage.

  • Would bunnings price beat this by 15%

    • I think they only beat prices from local stores.

  • How does this work if you still have the previous generation Arlos? You'd need now need subscription to see videos from this camera (after free storage expires)?

    • Yes. This is why the pro 2 is still the best camera in my opinion. They are getting hard to find though, and prices for used ones are creeping up. If you can find them…..

      • Thanks! Glad I still have the old ones.

    • And u can use for live feeds when connected to WiFi, though there is a few second delay from what I have read.

  • Looks to be sold out…

  • Looks like they’re sold out: “Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.”

  • For the essential you are basically forced to subscribe and pay monthly - useless otherwise. It's cheap, but still annoyed me.

  • Very happy with my Reolink Argus 2. Readily available for around the same price, but INCLUDES SOLAR PANEL. No battery worries. Connects easily to wifi (2.4 only). My daughter in Perth can view camera too and keep an eye on vehicles parked in the front driveway. No hub, no on going costs, no wires.

    • How about recording or storage?

  • Yep, has SD card in the unit, you can playback when you get a push notification alarm or anything you like- I can still go back to the day it was installed. Terrific night vision.

  • In fact the Reolink Argus 2 with solar panel is only $103 at time of writing, approx $6 for shipping for me as a Prime member on Amazon

    • Reolink is pretty good , i have a argus pt with solar panel and it's been setup & running for about 6 months with just the initial charge, free cloud storage also and video quality is better than both arlo and eufy in my opinion

  • If you have a Arlo 2 homebase and onwards you can store locally on an external hard drive or SD depending on the model. However you can only stream from the Arlo 3 onwards and only on your local network or set up port forwarding or use a vpn outside your network. The Arlo Essential XL Camera can use the Arlo Homebase for storage but you can only practically plug you drive into your computer to view footage unless you are prepared to jump through all the hoops without cloud storage. And no, you can not piggyback on your Aloe 2 free 7 day cloud.

    • Well said ;)

    • If I plug in a USB drive into the Pro 2 Hub, will it record both the Pro 2 Cams (already on free 7 day cloud) plus the Essential XL?

Also, will the usb drive automatically delete old videos first when it runs out of storage, or do I have to manually empty the USB drive from time to time? Cheers

      • Yes there is a setting on the app to record to the cloud and external drive and also a setting to erase previous recordings automatically as the drive fills up. The Arlo pro two will record but you have to pull the USB and view it in a computer. Kind of makes it useless if you have your camera in a remote destination like a batch for instance.

        • Thanks - should work for me then as just for my home ;)

  • Fyi - these are back in stock on sale for the next 6 hours for AUD$146 shipped to NZ - I finally pushed the button and grabbed one…
