See supermarkets looking to sell at cost soon. Will be in high demand though.

Thoughts around this though is RATs are not as sensitive as PCR, so don't work as well as preventative tools. - You may have it and pass it around, but not be at a threshold level that the RAT can detect it. ie false positive.

Most useful to confirm when you are feeling sick that it is actually Covid. Not as useful as a general testing, early on, or for asymptomatic detection.

Basically saves you queuing up in line to get a free one, when you're not feeling very well anyway.

    • What's the point of proving whether it's covid or not "when you're not feeling very well"? Is it because the boss needs proof to approve sick leaves?

      • Because there are flow on isolation requirements if it is.

        https://covid19.govt.nz/isolation-and-care/if-you-have-covid…

        • Doesn't make sense to me, but nvm, since that's what the government says to do now.

          • @akrotohur: You should get sick leave whenever you’re sick.

If you’re sick with a highly infectious virus though then there are additional steps required to help prevent exposure to others.

          • @akrotohur: I don't fully understand it either. Perhaps if you have no sick days? But if positive I think you still need pcr test to get confirmation.

            • @Foodie: The last I heard is a RAT positive is considered positive, no pcr test is required because they can't cope with the PCR test volume…haha

I still don't understand why the need to self test, if not feeling well or symptomatic, just self isolate for 10 days, covid or not doesn't really matter.

              • @akrotohur: Ah, they probably changed the rules :)
I had a pcr test over new years as I had a cold, just wanted to make sure as I would be around family and their kids.
Returned negative, but maybe that's why people want to self check.

In everyday work life working from home I'm not visiting heaps of people so no issues, people have different circumstances I guess.

  • wow, thats a lot more expensive than 1-day, it was 31.99 this morning for the same thng

  • These antigen tests seem to struggle to detect the newer variants. I've heard that an additional swab in the throat increases the accuracy, because the viral load is higher there with the newer variants.
