Error fare: Singapore one-way from Auckland $208, from Chch $300 on Jetstar @ Beat That Flight

110

I honestly am not sure how this even works. Looks like maybe a ticketing error as it's showing as Qantas but when you actually try to book it's Jetstar, so maybe someone's entered something in wrong somewhere along the line.

Anyway, $208 one way from Auckland, $300 from Christchurch, 7kg carry on. Via Melbourne. I'll check some other cities as well and add below.

Going back to nz is double the fare to go to Singapore

Mytrip.com, kiwi.com and kissandfly all seems to have very bad reviews and almost a scam!

    • +1

pretty much all OTAs (online travel agencies) have poor reviews - it's a funny thing, if you book through them and flights go well, you tend to forget who kiwi.com or mytrip.com is - you remember flying with say, Qantas. If they go poorly, you're dealing with them as a travel agent (eg covid cancelled flights) and people get annoyed at them and write bad reviews :/

Personally I've used mytrip and kiwi multiple times without problems, haven't used kissandfly but presume similar.

      • @beatthatflight - Nope, not all OTAs have only bad reviews or mostly bad reviews. If most of the reviews are bad, that means something is wrong. There are OTAs who have mostly good reviews too and a few bad reviews. So please stop promoting scam websites. Sad to see that you are favouring the scammers.

  • -1

Just take the dates from BTF and book direct with jetstar. All these otas make money up selling you heaps of crap you don't need hoping you'll either need to cancel or change your flight to sting you even further.

    • +3

Absolutely, if it's cheaper on Jetstar, go there. I'm just trying to find the cheapest ones, and Or you could just not accept the extras from the OTAs. And I've never had to pay extra to change my flight with an OTA (admittedly only had to do it twice).

Aside, I just checked, it's not possible to book on Jetstar's site for this price. That's the joy of an error fare.

  • +1

It's not an error fare. The ota is always cheaper than the original site for points stated above. For peace of mind book with the airline.

  • Are you covered with your travel insurance from credit card if you book via OTA?

    • You'd need to read your specific cards requirements, but generally you need to have pre-paid xx% of the travel on the card to activate the insurance. So probably yes.

Westpac have a site you can use to check travelactivate.co.nz but the terms are pretty clear from what I remember.

  • I was looking at some flights via beat that flight and the cheaper flight providers were all the scam ones with many bad reviews where many people have lost their money i.e. mytrip.com, myholidays.com, etc. Can see the same trick across these websites that people got reservations but no confirmed booking and providers asking for more money to book. No one from their support is getting back to refund enquiries or redirecting the customers to others, etc. Here are the reviews. Do check the reviews guys before booking, Don't be a victim.

@Beatthatflight - Please do not allow such websites on your aggregator which are fraudlant as these are harming your reputation too.

    https://nz.trustpilot.com/review/mytrip.com - 56% bad reviews
    https://nz.sitejabber.com/reviews/mytrip.com - 779 1 sar reviews
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/mytrip-com - 438 1 star reviews

    https://nz.sitejabber.com/reviews/myholidays.com
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/my-holidays

I would recommend booking from a local website or directly with the airline rather than losing money on cheaper options which then cost you double the cost. The worst reviews I have read are that you find out on the day of your flight that your ticket was not confirmed.

    Stay safe online!

    • I've seen these too, but have literally used mytrip and myholidays myself without issue. I'm not sure if I'm just not being 'tricked' (seems unlikely) or the other people are having issues, but go figure. I'm actually in regular email contact with mytrip about a booking I had during lockdown about using the credit, and they sometimes take 3 days to reply but apologise as they're overwhelmed (hell Qantas phone line I've seen people taking 7 hours to get through).

As I said here - https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/117519/redir - people tend to remember the airline if the booking went well, and the OTA if it went badly. Always check you get a PNR (6 digit booking confirmation number) to be confident your flight is actually booked.

      • You must have been the luckiest ones to not have a bad experience with these providers. Also, once the money is paid and didn't receive PNR, it will be hard/impossible to get a refund. So better not to risk money with these providers.

        • maybe, but been using OTAs since I first found zuji and kayak.com back in … 2008? and never had issues. I feel if they were 99% terrible as implied, they wouldn't last long, given how many travel agents have gone out of business.

However, as you say it's important to be safe online, and always to read the T&Cs carefully. Some will give refunds on certain flights, others credit only - and that can be a big problem for many, especially during covid.

          • @beatthatflight: As I mentioned not all OTAs are bad. I have always booked through OTAs but after checking the reviews. Kayak.com has a lot of good reviews too, so no problem with them. I am only pointing out the ones who have more than 80-90% bad reviews only, so something is wrong with them. My only point is to aware people to make an informed decision when booking flights online or generally paying for anything online. I found this trend, so I posted it here to aware the community.

Edit - Kayak is also an aggregator, so please check the reviews for who you are booking with/paying money to at the end. If you can't find any reviews, that a red flag too.

            • @rd223: Sorry, by kayak I meant I used kayak back then to find OTAs. Only in recent years has it become possible to book directly with kayak as well.

        • +1

Dude he makes money from those sites as an affiliate so its in his best interests to keep saying how good they are so people book with them.

          • @Rhys: Yes, I know :)

          • @Rhys: @Rhys of course, but I also link to deals where I get nothing. I'm also not going to intentionally send people to scams, and like any of the mentioned online reviews, I'll recommend sites that I've personally used without issue. With any company (an OTA or airline itself or travel agency) there's always a balance of deal vs risk.
Booked a flight yesterday with AirNZ directly, because AirNZ was cheaper and could show a weird connection that wasn't showing up elsewhere. Always worth checking multiple sources!

        • I've once booked flights via Expedia; no problem with the travel.

          • @cruelsummer2: I have booked with Expedia too and was okay. Still would recommend checking reviews and who you are booking with after searching on Expedia. I can see many recent bad reviews for Expedia too.
