[Auckland] Fuel: 91 - $2.94 per Litre; 95 - $3.10 per Litre (Requires Caltex App for 10c off at Pump) @ Caltex, Sylvia Park

40

With the price of fuel skyrocketing at the moment, check gaspy app before you fill your tank. Convo with a friend today and discovered 91 @ 44c cheaper not too far from his local.

  • Do I have the prices right OP?

Okay, think I figured it out. Gaspy shows me 304 at Caltex, Sylvia Park, so I'm guessing you factored in the extra 10c off into price mentioned in the title.

  • Maybe a good idea to use Z Sharetank and top it up, although it's 10c/L more expensive. Wish I bought more when it was $1.85/L.

    • if I do top up on sharetank recently they are offering bonus fuel on top up (bonus fuel was offered in the last few Friday)

or alternatively or in addition if you join Z electric you get 75L of free fuel (of your choice) after about 2 weeks of joining, (no contract, free to leave as you wish). a very good short term deal if you are not on a contract with an electricity provider already.

  • Looks like prices have just been reduced, the lowest in AKL is $2.837 at the moment

    • That Costco fuel station is several months late, unfortunately.

      • Yep, really looking forward to Costco opening

        • It's actually all built up, just not fully functioning, and we have to wait until the supermarket opens first.

  • The search for electric vehicle will probably skyrocket

    • Those who got an EV last winter with the clean car discount are laughing to the bank now….

  • Feels like it goes up 4c per week…
Next psychological threshold: $4 per litre!

    • Would people start another round of parliament occupation if petrol hits $4? haha

      • Not like they can do much when it's the price of oil rocketing. :/

maybe reduce tax on it, I guess.

        • +2

Noooo…. don't expect them to do anything about it, they will just spend millions of our tax money to hire a bunch of consultants to "look into it", and then do nothing….haha

          • @akrotohur: Prices have increased because of people are gouged by supermarkets and fleeced at the pump. It has nothing to do with this govt's policies, like printing a crazy amount of money, increasing the minimum wage, sick leave and public holidays, haphazard policies like banning new oil and gas exploration, Auckland regional fuel tax, and outrageous Covid-response policies regarding lockdown, isolation and vaccination… (Tui)

  • Always funny how quickly an increase in the barrel price gets to the NZ consumer, compared to a decrease.

$2.789 for 91 at my local Allied petrol station in the Manawatu.

  • $2.69 for 91 @ NPD Te Rapa.

Matches what I pay at Mobil (Te Rapa): $2.85 - 16c off with SuperCard.

  • it is unreal, cant believe nowadays 91 @ 2.94 is consider a good deal

  • There was a post about 6-8 months ago about a hack/loop hole on saving fuel, something to do with only fueling up certain amounts at a time.

I can't find the post though, anyone remember reading this? I didn't pay it much attention at the time :(

    • +1

      Possibly this?
I mentioned it in a recent fuel forum thread.

    • Using the saving discount method might not be as effective now due to the rapid increase in fuel prices in short period.

      • Yep, that's what I found when I tried to maximise the FlyBuys discount from Disney+. I probably paid a few dollars more for waiting another week to be able to fill up the full 50L…haha

  • Fill up all your cars right now, if you don't you're just paying more in the coming weeks. It's only going up. I was lucky enough to get 2.64 in the south island yesterday and I filled both cars and the jerry can right up.

  • I was thinking about the fuel price earlier. The price per barrel of oil has spiked up but opec has their production cut pledge currently unwinding so they are going to be cranking out as much oil as they can very soon potentially massively dropping the price of oil.

    • Thats possible, but given the price to pump it is more or less the same as it always was - they also might decide to just bank all that beautiful extra profit they are making right now - all they have to do is find the balance point where it becomes to expensive and people start using less or swapping to EV or god forbid walking or taking public transport. Im still not sure we are even there yet so I wouldnt expect a big drop anytime soon.

      • Yeah, looks like the replay of the 2008 GFC petrol price drama, now the oil producers nations know that people are still happily pumping away at $3/L or even $4/L since many people are accepting these prices thinking it's due to covid+war (these are just excuses), they will just maintain this price level going forward. Petrol price will never go back to what it previously was.

Fuel up now, and fast: Motorists warned petrol prices about to skyrocket

      https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2022/03/fuel-up-now-and…

      • It's interesting the price difference between the stations.
I live an equal distance between a Waitomo and a Z station. Waitomo is $2.69L (for 91) and Z is $3.09 right now. At 40c per litre it's a massive difference, although I expect that will change soon.

I will always support Waitomo where I can, being Kiwi owned and fantastic with their free fuel promotions.

        • Waitomo is not great in Auckland (according to Gaspy), I only pay them a visit when I have accumulated enough free moolahs from the spins…haha

I'd gladly support Kiwi owned businesses if they are wallet friendly, but unfortunately many aren't, e.g. Unichem, Mitre10, PaperPlues, etc, are more expensive most of the time.

  • Am I the only one and seen this coming at 1.43litre filling my sharetank to 1000litres and getting 50litres free as a bonus …I mean did we not expect it to raise past the 2.50 well the cost of living continued and coming out of a world wide lockdown.

    • Why are you down voted? I envy foresight. I can't remember when was the last time petrol was around $1.5/l though.

      • Happens all the time.
Seems to be whenever someone does something different, has some good fortune, or has a different point of view the keyboard warriors come out guns blazing with the downvotes.
Helps that you can do it anonymously and without any justification.

    • Oh god lmao 🤣🤣🤣 to whoever down voted my comment before clearly have seen the news

    • Will doing a sharetank today still help? I "heard" most of them are going up by 30c+ by midnight…haha

      • That's a good question I was thinking the same thing…or did the other petrol station start putting there's up already?

        • Waitomo should be the first to increase at 6 pm, I heard (on newstalk ZB) Mobil is increasing at midnight, the rest are probably going to increase their prices too. If it's really 30c+, they can't possibly absorb.

          • @akrotohur: I saw something saying 20cents petrol 30 diesel prediction

          • @akrotohur: My wife just drove past our local Waitomo and there are queues for miles.
They have now run out of petrol and only have diesel at the pumps due to the run on fuel.

            • @bigcheese: Yeah, I think the queues started around midday, that's also when they were talking about it on Newstalk ZB.

          • @akrotohur: I think go with what ya gut says from what I see it's not slowing down anytime soon and will only head up so maybe it's best to

    • So smart! I wish I bought 1000 L a few weeks back too. Just bought 200 L at $3.309 and now it's $3.449 at Z around my place.

      • 2.96 cheapest z atm in chch

    • +1

I think you might have been downvoted for bragging/typo. Z launched sharetank in late 2019, since then I don't think petrol has ever been $1.42/l.

  • It was $2.86/L on Saturday there before discount when I filled up!

    • $3.50/L will be considered cheap a few weeks from now

  • Who here have now 100% decided that they are now going to actively purchase an EV because of recent fuel prices?

    • Deja vu, during the 2008 GFC, so many people were rushing to convert to LPG…haha

  • Sign up to Z electric, and get 75L of 91/95 free! https://www.cheapies.nz/node/31239

  • Just a massive heads up, there's going to be a massive price hike from 6pm today (in about an hour's time). If you have the Z app, lock in the current Sharetank price with prepaid credits now.

    https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU2203/S00267/waitomo-warns-…

  • It won't be funny for those who bought sharetank on Friday if the govt cuts fuel taxes today!

    • +1

Nah, don't expect too much from the government….whatever they cut today will probably be swallowed up by the next price increase…haha

They then will have to think of another way to cover that hole (maybe a new tax somewhere else).

    • 25c off fuel tax (and RUC)

      • Thanks for the update (just got off work and still searching the news for the info, hadn't found the info ai was after). You're correct, 25c is hardly enough to offset expected price increases.

  • Yay, petrol price is dropping

Mobil, Z, BP to drop petrol prices 25c a litre after Government fuel tax cut
