18500 addresses, by invitation only - not really a deal. Good clickbait to get your site traffic up though

Have reworded it to remove the "by invitation only" remark. Based on 2013 numbers, that's just over 14% of Christchurch households. Definitely more of a deal than a targeted door to door campaign :)

      • Stats NZ reports Christchurch as having 135,260 households, which at 14%, is 18,936 households.
Removing "by invitation only" is irrelevant. May as well say "targetted to the 18,900+ houses that have old tech in CHC"
You say Potato, I say pota-to

Why downvote this deal? If you're in ChCh and don't yet have fiber then this is a fantastic deal that any of us here would jump on in an instant if we were eligible.

      • Considering that's 9 years ago, i'd be surprised if there's even half that amount now..

  • Sounds mythical… what's the catch?

Be in an Enable fibre area and not already be connected to their network.

  • "not already connected" might wanna put that more clearly.

Post says "not already have Fibre Installed at your address by Enable Fibre (“LFC") AND;"

So for anyone actually considering this.

The company was only registered 6 months ago, with a single shareholder to a residential address in Tauranga. A person of the same name the company is owned by lives in Christchurch, has documented links to Tauranga and was studying and appears to work in marketing. A bit of digging finds that the residents of that Tauranga address have the same surname but different initials.

Based on this and more I think it's reasonable to believe this is a virtual ISP, run by a single 27 year old marketing graduate and registered to his parents address.

It seems ..unlikely.. this sort of apparently 1 man operation could fund potentially thousands of free connections, so it's possible this is actually a stealth promotion by Enable to get more people connected.

    • That explains why BYO modem only. And there's no support line other than the live chat tool which is possibly run by the owner himself. It's still an option for those non-fibre users with some IT skills. Just don't expect the support that you'd get from other big ISPs.

    • Seriously, are there really people taking up this offer? Haha

      • Free fibre internet for a year & free Spark sport for a year with no fixed term after your 12 months of free stuff is up….. why wouldn't you take a punt if you don't have fibre already?

    • The post is pretty clear that it's funded (at least in part) by Enable to get more people connected:

We have partnered with Enable to offer this promotion, and is targeted at moving certain homes from other broadband tech to fibre.

      • Yep, got that, it's just really weird that the only ISP offering this appears to be a 1 man band that's come out of virtually nowhere. That makes me more inclined to think that potentially the entire operation is just an Enable marketing campaign in disguise which is what I was angling at. Why they'd do that, or even partner with a brand new no name ISP rather than established ISP's is an interesting question thou.

  • Chorus does something similar, $100 prezzy card for specific addresses that aren't connected.

  • i literally live in upper riccarton and cannot get the deal. seems like clickbait.

    • OP is online so hopefully you get an answer as to why.

    • There's about 1000 addresses in the Riccarton/Upper Riccarton area that are eligible (keeping in mind that eligibility is determined by Enable, not us). Feel free to lodge a ticket on our website or PM your address and I can check it out for you (assuming you don't already have Fibre installed).

  • No idea why this guy is copping so much hate, do your thang Mythical! If it's a one man solo operation, then i'm thoroughly impressed he's managed to solicit a deal that allows him to offer 12 months of free fibre to people.
