Fresh Salmon $17.6/kg, Sea Cuisine Shrimp $19/kg, Sunrice Medium Grain Rice 5kg 2 for $20 @ Countdown (Select Stores)

80

Just found these pop in to Countdown.

Anyone know why this is so cheap? Salmon usually $40+/kg nowadays??

There are not much stock on the shelf for the rice and they did not display the 2 for $20 at the store I just visit, I found Countdown usually do this for popular deal like this and don't load the shelf with enough stocks, and they don't even refill the shelf you just need to go back early next day.

+40cents off $200 spent for BP

@doubledippps: I'll head into my local countdown and see if they have the salmon.

            • @bullseye: Did your store have them for the same price?

              • @doubledippps: nope the store in botany only had the rice.

  • i was just at my local, this must be region specific as there is soo much salmon in that photo, only the rice is on special.

  • Looks like it's frozen salmon from Norway (thawed)

    • It said on the price tag Fresh and Product of NZ

      • That's right, I looked at the wrong part of the picture. My apologies.

  • Thanks OP. Did you try to buy some gift vouchers to make it $200?

    • +1

No…I end up doesn't get $200 of stuff, I was standing in store to check the T&C online and it said gift card is excluded 😂

      • +3

Yeah, it's pretty hard to get $200 worth of groceries at CD now, unless you are prepared to pay for a bunch of overpriced groceries…haha

  • Just updated the post, the rice is 5kg bag, thanks Wakrak for reminder.

  • So, which Countdown?

  • Can anyone confirm the prices of any other stores in Christchurch?

[ Relating to salmon] Individual stores have the ability to set clearance prices if there is a reason e.g short dated product, over stocks. So the price of the salmon looks to be store specific

  • It's cheap because it's about to go off, that's why.

    • The photo I took was a bit dark but it's actually look pretty fresh in store, I did hesitate a bit when I bought it because of the price.. wondering why for the price drop 🤔. The thawed Norway one look pretty dull tho.

      • Just overstocked I guess. Rather sell it now than when it looks and smells rancid. I live in Auckland and haven't bought fish from Countdown for a long time because they are always like that (rancid).
