how are these jacks? Safe enough to use for the in house stuff?

I'd prefer grabbing the Kinchrome or Toolpro 1600kg ones. Seem like much sturdier construction, and you don't mess around with jacks!

Agreed, I have one of the 1600kg ones and it's only lasted a few years and only been used half a dozen times, it now leaks. The worst thing about them (and watch for this on all cheaper jacks) is that they often don't have enough lift to even change a tyre. Look for maximum height of 400mm+.

However on the safety side, if you're betting your life on the jack not failing then you're doing it all (dangerously) wrong. Always use stands if you're going under a jacked vehicle. Jacks can and do fail all the time.

    • What do you mean, you don't mess around with jacks?

Are you getting under your car with just the car on the jack, and no axle stands? You must not value your life very much.

      • No, I have a 2 post hoist and a 4 post roll on lift. Rarely do I need jacks these days. The bottom line is that regardless of whether you are using jackstands or not the last thing you want is a rickety jack, there's potential for many things to go wrong with jack failure including damaging the vehicle. Also the harsh reality is that many idiots will only use jacks, so it's never a good idea to encourage cheaper or poorly made ones, especially over saving $50-100…

I would add that that there are many jackstands I wouldn't trust with my life either. If you're going to be crawling under a car you should really spend a bit of coin on the one thing preventing it from crushing you to death. Don't use cheap whitelabeled chinese brands like SCA when it's critical.

ToolPRO Low Profile Garage Jack 3000kg $260 when it's on special, very sturdy and has a very high lift capacity, great for hoisting the lawn tractor on one end to do the blades. Downside, it's too heavy to carry but can host the car high enough to put two stands under the axles. I have a couple of 1600 kg trolley Jacks but never use them anymore.

  • If my car is 2050kg, which jack should I go for?

Ah, probably neither? Go for a 2500-3000kg one.

I love that this reply is so far from factual information

I don’t know anyone trying to lift an entire vehicle on a single jack hahaha

And you only want to be using the jack to lift the vehicle, not to support it

You nailed it on your previous post, I don't know why you were downvoted. When you're jacking up a car with these lighter jacks you cannot get the height to put the stands under safely especially a larger SUV like mine. Just because the Jack says 1400 kg it doesn't help much if it only has a lifting range of 330 mm when a 3 t Jack has a range over 500 mm. The 2-ton model is a good buy with a 460mm range, but Quality control could be an issue in the future.

    • You typically don't lift your entire car with a single jack

    • 1400kg is fine, you are only lifting a corner of the car. Important thing is to always put axle stands under after you've jacked it up.

Just a heads up, not all of the jacks can raise the car high enough to put the jack stands underneath. The 1400kg jack listed raises 10mm above the jack stands listed but in my experience this wont fit due to the height difference of the jack point on the car and where the jack stands sit. I kept my jack stands as they were at a good price and seemed to do the job but returned the low profile jack that I bought from SCA and got a 3000kg low profile jack from TradeMe instead, while my car is only 1700kg I needed the longer jack arm to raise the car high enough which the lower weight jacks didnt offer. The 2000kg jack listed is a decent buy as long as it fits under your car but I'd personally recommend a 3ton jack.
