    Better off getting the external probably for $10 more and shucking it, as they're usually enterprise drives .

      Thanks for that. I cancelled the 14TB order and placed an order for 18TB external drive. I am bit worried about HDDs getting damaged during shipping.
      NB: if you can edit your title and say "US$314.49 Shipped", it will be a bit more clearer, as I had assumed the title pricing was excl shipping.

        The nice thing about buying an external and shucking it is that they have 2 or 3 layers of protection so "less" chance of a courier (profanity) it up.
        1) The HDD itself is usually fixed inside the enclosure with rubber grommets etc over the screws to help with vibration dampening
        2) The enclosure is packaged inside a box with foam/padded cardboard which absorbs some of the bumps and knocks
        3) Hopefully the merchant puts it inside a cardboard box with more general soft packing material.

        Done, yeah externals would also have additional durability vs retail only drives, due to enclosure.

        Sometimes they'll be white/red label drives lukc of the draw but from what i've read previously the highest end ones are more likely to be enterprise.
        As for shucking plenty of youtubes to show how.

        I ordered a drive from amazon 2 years back and it turned up dead on arrival… everything looked fine, but when I connected it, it had the hard drive click of death.

        Cost me over $60nzd to return it. Blah! Overall I've had good experiences though. Such is the risk of saving a lot of money!
