  • Does anyone know if there is there any minimum term as such for holding a credit card? For example, if I applied for one of these for the purposes of making a specific $5000 spend, could I pay off the balance, get the cash back deal and close the account?

    • +1

Without having gone through all the terms and conditions myself, I would be very surprised if you couldn't do that.

However, you'd definitely get charged the $25 up front fee for the first six months, and I doubt you'd get any of that back. If so, you would definitely want to wait until you'd gotten the $500 credit, and then spent that (assuming it is applied as a credit to your account), but that should be possible within six months, unless they are really slow processing the credit.

Even if you had to pay 2 x $25 (twelve months of fees) it would still be worth it though?

To be sure, you should read through all the contract terms - worth it for $500 (or $450 even)!

      Alan.

The Credit Back will be applied by Friday 10 February 2023 to each qualifying customer’s Q Mastercard account, I guess you can close the account after that.

Just make sure the $5k is not on Long Term Finance transactions.

  • +2

Everyone should read through the "Things you should know" before applying.

It does not apply to any Long Term Finance purchase or account opened for this purpose.

They don't accept manual bank statement which means you will need to give permission for Illion to retrieve your bank statements.

    • +1

That would be a deal breaker for me - no chance I am giving any third party access to my bank accounts (in fact, pretty sure I have agreed not to do that with my bank).

    • They absolutely do manual bank statements, I did one for them (annoyingly) last week.

  • Only if they'd f**in let me sign up on a Visa

  • Standard purchases don't attract any fees, as long as you pay the balance off, correct? Thinking I could spend the $5k pretty easily over the promotional period, and just pay off my entire account balance every fortnight or so.

I just don't want to attract any establishment fees on buying stuff like groceries/gas/small online purchases etc [the establishment fees are for the Long-term finance stuff - which I don't want/need].

    TIA!

    • This is my understanding too. The $55 establishment is for the first long term finance purchase, which will make the transaction ineligible. we will just need to pay the $25 half-year fee if we close the account in 6 months.

I don't know anything about this company but they have some "interesting" things in the terms and conditions:

    1. The Promoter reserves the right to amend, suspend or terminate the offer and these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
    2. Any decisions made by the Promoter in relation to this promotion are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    3. Entry into this promotion is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
    4. Acceptance of a Credit Back is deemed consent for the Promoter to use the winner’s details for promotional and media purposes.
  • I canceled Q mastercard 11 months ago, does any one know if there is any restriction relate to how often i can sign up to this kind of deal? i seem to find it in T&C

    • Sign up and don't tell them, just ask if your are eligible and when you will have credit applied

    • I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in the key points but better give them a call before signing up.

  • So who can summarise the key points?

I'm aware of and have read the ts&cs

Chance to get 500 off 5000

Min fees apear to be $25.

Like anything aim to not end up paying interest…

    • chance to … or surely get 500 off 5000?

  • +1

I was given $500 credit limit at the end of the application. How the hell I can spend 5000 on that? ( before you ask I do have a reasonable income)

    • +1

You gotta admire (or something) their approach :-)

    • +1
      1. Spent $500, pay it off.

      2. Repeat

      3. ????

      4. Profit

    • One way I do it with other credit card is if you want $1k to spend and have that much in bank. I will deposit that amount in credit card which will give you a one time limit of $1500. This will not require any increase in credit limits. Not sure if this card allows you to do that.

      • Nope. I put mine into credit and it started being declined. I called them and they said if someone puts "too much" on the card this happens. They refunded the excess into my bank account.

So now i spend and put a payment through each day to bring the balance back to zero. Such a silly system, youd think theyd want me using it for bigger purchases.

My husband got a $500 limit, so we called them and requested a slightly higher limit. It was approved within 1 hour.

I don't know how they assess the application, but there's no way that my husband only qualifies $500…You can sign up and request a limit increase in their portal, we called because we wanted to talk to someone.

      • +1

I took it personally when I see the $500 credit at the end. I wish to cancel the application but that wasn't an option!

        • I got 500 too. wtf.

        • We took it personally initially but I didn't want to cancel it without trying for a limit increase as a credit check was done and bank statements were pulled anyway. In the end, we got a higher limit which will definitely help.

    • I initially had the same credit limit amount as I'd filled in the frequency of certain expenses/income incorrectly. You can re do your application process when logged in on your account page. I've resubmitted my application, adjusted the frequencies and set that I wanted a $6000 limit. Am now waiting to hear back from them.

  • It's not letting me sign up it locks me on the bank verification part

Just got approved for $8000 and cancelled my Kiwibank Visa Airpoints Platinum as the points system was not going to be worth it anymore.

Just be careful cheapies, it does say in the terms and conditions, only spends after 10 working days after the account is opened will qualify for the Cashback. I just spent $400 that wasn't going to get counted towards the balance :/

    • Have you received the card already?!

      • No just the account set up has been complete. I can make purchases online with the Q Mastercard app as my card number is already stored with the app.

    • Good catch, I got my 'Welcome aboard!' email from them on Tuesday 18th Oct.
So I think the date I could spend on the card and be eligible would be 10 working days from then, being 2nd of November (not inclusive of Tuesday 18th Oct or Labour day public holiday). Would you also calculate it this way?

      • +1

I would calculate it in the most 'conservative' way possible, excluding 18 Oct 2022, and the bank holiday, and adding one more working day to be sure.

Why take the risk for the sake of one day, and buy yourself a whole big argument you don't need to?

        • Thanks, yes agreed. Appreciate your comment :)

      • Yes. As full disclosure I work in providing legal services.

  • Hi @jinxnz and @thegoat,

I signed up Q Mastercard with promotion of Spend up to $5000 Get up to $500 Back in The First 3 Months (New Signups). I am sure that I have used the promo code "SPENDGET".

Just wondering if you have received email from Q Master card stating you are enrolled in the promotion? I called Q Master card twice, and they are unable to tell me straight away and need more investigation.

    Thanks.

    • I didn't get any email confirming that I was enrolled in the promotion either. I can't actually remember whether I used the code now that I think about it. @thegoat @CarolineZ @huffboy can you guys confirm?

      • Worrying now that I realise that I don't see it in the "Promotions" section either in My Accounts.

        • Hi Jinxnz,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I also do not see "Spend up to $5000 Get up to $500 Back" in my account promotion section. I remember the "SPENDGET" code was automatically filled when I click on the Promotion.

I will be contacting them again in these few days to check, but I am shocked that they cannot tell me whether I am enrolled in the promotion or not.

          • @sunwise8: I've received confirmation from q mastercard that the promotion is active on my account. I hope you've got it as well @sunwise8. If any problems PM me and I can get you in touch with the advisor that helped me out

            • @jinxnz: Hi thanks, did you call or email them?

              • +1

@CarolineZ: @CarolineZ I called and talked to a Arnest. I got him to send me an email to confirm "the promotion is active on your account" even though it isn't showing on the website.

            • @jinxnz: HI @jinxnz,

Glad to hear that it worked out for you :-). I have called Q Master card twice and I was told that they will investigate, but have not heard back. I have a feeling they have no idea what they are doing. The communication has been very poor with Q Master Card.

I will try to contact them again, if no luck then might need your help to get in touch with the Advisor that helped you out. Shall I call them and ask for Arnest?

              Thanks again :-)

              • @sunwise8: @sunwise8 I would recommend that. Ask for Arnest just to send a confirmation that the promotion is active on the account to your email (if it is active on the account). PM me if you want to reference me personally to say that I had the same issue
