This is an ongoing deal and the bonus Airpoints fluctuate throughout the year. Managed to apply when they were offering 500 Airpoints back in June.

      • Got this as well in the past. After the first year, I had it converted to a 'standard' AMEX Airpoints card that still earns points ($100 spend = A$1), but with $0 annual fees.

If its a $195 annual fee, to get 300 Airpoints, which are typically $1=A$1 then I guess its only really A$105.

Oh to get the deals the US folks get on travel reward cards…..

$130 airpoints. You'll earn $25 for the $1500.00 required spend as well.

I switched to this card recently after the fees on my Airpoints Mastercard were going up and the earn rate got worse. This card has the best Airpoints earn rate and with extra perks, pays itself off and then some. My first perk was spend $200 at Countdown and get $40 back which could be done twice.

    • 100%. I did the math back when it was $500 airpoints and it was working out pretty good. Then all the extra perks, made $80 at Countdown, $10 back when I shopped at a few local stores, etc.

  • Is American Express easy to use in NZ now? Probably around 2015 I had an AMEX with work and it was a nightmare trying to find places that would accept it, so I've always gone with the Mastercard or Visa Airpoints cards since. But as we get A$80 a month on those, this would be a better deal card if places accept it.

      still a nightmare
