Scissors - Sharpest, Longest Lasting, and of course Cheapest

It's time we updated our household supply of scissors. We have such an eclectic mix of them, none of them very sharp any more, each with their own problems. Sharpening isn't really an option, as most of them are lightweight and flimsy.

Historically I've found scissors can vary from the cheap and nasty bought at a big name store, down to surprisingly cheap yet excellent quality from your local "$2" shop. I need a variety of sizes and styles for the kitchen, office, garage, hair cutting, etc.

I prefer quality over price, but want to know if there are any real bargains to be had or go-to names anyone swears by.

I bought a pair of Westcott titanium scissors in the US many years ago and are the best scissors I have ever owned. They've stayed sharp, just need the occasional clean with rubbing alcohol to remove adhesive residue etc

  • Don't really have a recommendation for normal scissors, but in our drawer we have a general use scissor, and a tullen. The tullen cuts just about anything!

  • the $2 scissors at kmart seem to do the trick for my household but they only have one size so not sure if youre needing something else to suit you.

  • What about poultry shears/ kitchen scissors?

    • Yep, we have a couple of cheap pairs in the kitchen that came with the cheap knife blocks (which I'll save for another post 😂).

Do you recommend any particular brands?

I bought this set at the last 40% off at Lincaft. The 40% is pretty regular so wait if you can. They have individuals as well if you don't want the set. Can't fault them. The biggest one is super long. Lincraft have a large amount of scissors. Quickly becomes confusing

  • I have always purchased and recommend Fiskars scissors.
Lots of places sell them, including the Warehouse, Mitre 10 and Bunnings, so perhaps an opportunity to do a Price Beat.

    • Thanks, I'll take a look

  • I bought Tullen snips, great scissors

  • I've used "Quirky" scissors for years and been very pleased with them. Nice big handles and finger holes and one side of the scissor folds up into the handle so you can use it as a blade for opening boxes.

They are hard to find in stores now, I could only find one just now on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165498701634
