Burner Mobile Numbers for Activation Purposes - Any Recommendations?

Hey all, wondering if there is a recommended site for getting mobile numbers for sms activations? I used to have 5sim but for nz/au numbers they keep failing to generate the numbers.. Tried a few other 'free' ones but the activation message not coming through.
Any advice/help will be appreciated!

  • I have accumulated a load of SIMs over the years (mainly from 'deals' posted on here) - I just use one of those with a minimal charge up ($5 / $10 whatever the least you can do), and use for a while (at least a year until it would have to be charged again).

Not free, but so low a cost that it doesn't really matter (to me at least).

Someone posted recently that they bought, I think, 40 SIMs for $4.00 ($0.10 each) at Harvey Norman as an example.

    Alan.

  • If you live in NZ why not just buy $1 Spark/Voda/Warehouse Mobile SIM's when they are on special? Are you needing tens/hundreds or something?

  • But these SIMs, is there anyway to not having to physically insert the cards into the phone to use? Physical SIM slot is already used up for my office purposes that I cannot take out

    • Get a cheap phone with good battery which is more than enough.

    • Just use an old phone - most people have a few old phones lying around, even if you don't, ask around your friends - they likely have several dozen between them :-)

For me, battery life is irrelevant for this purpose - just plug it in and get the SMS when required, and leave it off the rest of the time.

Also, many modern phones (last five years or more) have two SIM slots, so yours likely has a spare slot you could use.

  • So yes great suggestion , turns out parents had a spare phone lying around. So where’s the best place to get couple of SIM cards? I just need to be able to text and maybe call once in a while.
The ones I’ve seen are $9 PER month. are there any options where it doesn’t expire at end of the month?

    • Skinny sims are $1 currently at Harvey Norman

2Degrees and Spark are $1 too.

        • But don't they all require you to add credit buy a prepay plan? And the cheapest is like $15/month? The $5 Kogan sim seems to be the best at the moment?
Maybe I'm missing something, all I need to do is make maybe 100 texts and maybe few calls/month to NZ numbers only.

          • @mickey9876: Yes - so it depends on what you plan to use it for.
If it's just a cheap SIM card you need then any of the above are suitable.

In your case, Kogan or Warehouse Mobile are probably best.
You could always look at the Kogan Small 365 day plan when it's discounted. It's currently $112 per year (about $9.33 per month) but has frequently gone down to $80 or $6.66 per month.

WarehouseMobile has a $5 SIM that comes with $5 credit, 16c/min mobile calling and 16c txt nz/aus. Or you topup and buy packs $4 200min or $4 unlimtied txt etc

      • @Dunno Exactly what I needed! So basically with that $5 credit, I can make 30 texts or 30min calls.
Or $5 + $4 = $9 and you get 200min and unlimited text. Is that right? Or did you mean I could buy the $4 pack with the $5 credit that comes with the SIM?

        • When you buy the packs they only last for 28 days, so you would only buy them if you intend to spend more than the $4 on txt's or $4 on calls in the following 28 days.
          https://www.warehousemobile.co.nz/pricing

          • @Dunno: $4 for unlimited texts/ is something I can live with.. Just wanted to double check I can use the $5 welcome credit to buy the $4 pack?

          • @Dunno: Just looked at the pricing, wish they had a $4 pack for 200txts and some minutes instead of either talk or txts.

And you can get the Warehouse SIM through Noel Leeming using CSCBG membership for $2.83

        • Omg yes please! Thanks mate!

  • So is it safe to say that Kogan $5 starter pack is still the best option for calls/txts combo? 15Gb data is overkill but would happily take 1gb data for a discounted Kogan pack!
Any similar combo options(with moderate number of txts+calls) that is sub $5 that we don't need to wait for shipping etc?

    • Here is something I do with Skinny sim when I need data.

You can buy a new skinny sim for $1 and activate it with $16 plan. Use a skinny buddy rewards code from current sim in the new skinny activation, which will give you $20 back. So technically you are $3 richer lol.

You keep using your initial skinny buddy rewards code for subsequent activation of $16 plan, which will net you $20. You can always send $16 credit from your original sim to new sim and use it for plan activation.

Your initial investment will be $1 + $16, plus additional $1 for each new sim. Technically you can have unlimited calls & 4gb data for a total of $12(sims) + $16 for a year if you don't care about phone number.

Bonus - you get to use $16 plan with 4gb bonus data for a month if you have spare phone.

Happy to share buddy rewards code for initial sim activation or use one from cheapies referral system.

        • Damn, just bought 5 sims over the weekend. You are too good.

          • @ace310: Awesome, isn't it possible to price match at TWH? Jbhifi is in the mall and would love to avoid going in there if possible lol

            • @mickey9876: Do TWH sell the Skinny SIM though?
They have Warehouse Mobile, 2Degrees, Spark, Vodafone, but I don't see Skinny on the website.

            • @mickey9876: I think they don't sell skinny. could be wrong. Can't find it on website.

              • @ace310: Okay fair, thanks everyone. I just want to test the data, coverage and speeds as well for all the different networks. Whats the cheapest way to get 2D, Spark, Voda ? Just 1 each would suffice for now. I know some of them piggyback on the other but for cheap cost, I'd like to test for myself if possible.

                • @mickey9876: I would just get one of each from the same place - you might save a few cents by shopping around but if you're only after one I would value my time.
So, you can get Skinny, Spark & 2Degrees for $1 each at Harvey Norman.
Smiths City also have Vodafone for $0.97 and Skinny & Spark for $1.

                  • @bigcheese: So now just need Spark and Vodafone. Thinking of price matching at local TWH. For some reason activation codes only works reliably with Spark and Vodafone sim cards. So looking for ways to purchase few of each from spark & voda/one.

                    • @mickey9876: Some PaknSaves have $1 or 50c SIMs by the checkout too. I usually get them during grocery shopping, no special trips to harvey or noel. Also I'm pretty sure they are dropping prices to $1 to compete with PaknSave since they always sell them for $5 each.
