The LG UQ8000 is an entry-level TV in LG's 2022 lineup. It sits between the LG UQ9000 and the LG UQ75, and like their other entry-level models, it's limited in extra features. It comes with the same user-friendly LG webOS smart platform and the intuitive Magic Remote, whose point-and-press feature you can use to easily navigate the interface. It's available in several sizes, from 43 to 86 inches, and while most have basic features, the 86-inch version comes with extra gaming perks that the smaller sizes don't have, like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and variable refresh rate (VRR). It's available internationally at several retailers, but in the United States, you can only get it at warehouse retailers like Sam's Club, Costco, and BJ's.

Verdict:

The LG UQ80 is good for watching TV shows in well-lit rooms. It has decent reflection handling if you have a few minor light sources around, but it doesn't get bright enough to fight a ton of glare. It also has a wide viewing angle, making it ideal for wide seating areas as everyone will see the same image. It doesn't have issues upscaling lower-resolution content, and if you stream your shows, it has an excellent smart interface with a ton of apps available to download.

PROS

No issues upscaling lower-resolution content.
Wide viewing angle.
Decent reflection handling.

CONS

Some uniformity issues.
Low peak brightness.

  • How does this compare to
The x75k sony tv? Saw that on special at the warehouse for 899

    • you really need to go in store and see, the sony one is 5 inches less,i would choose the sony as i like the image quality and depth on my other ones.
i think the LG tv power supply is internal which i dont like now due to previous one having failed/coil whine

      • agree with this, internal power supplies are a no no if you can avoid it, afaik sony one is better, but take that with the smallest grain of salt you can find.

        • My Sony OLED 55” dies last weekend, they need to replace the board after four years old errrg.

          • +1

@phillq: Crazy, i would use the CGA to fight that, its a lottery with every brand, models use inferior components or different suppliers have problems and you dont know till you open it.

            • @coffeee: Oh yea that’s what I did, even though you are supposed to do it via the retailer (Noel Leeming in my case) I went directly with Sony, as soon as their third party repairer told me a price, I asked if it could be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act, they instantly replied “oh I will escalate that to the Sony staff member that deals with the CGA”, they came back to me a few days later saying Sony approved it! Currently awaiting the repair man now…

        • I can't think of many TVs that has external power supplies, like they do with monitors. Typically blown capacitors cause internal power board failures.
