  • wow that is cheap! thanks! Now to find a deal on a NAS Server!

  • Great find! I was just about to buy two new drives to go with my new NAS, so I got the 5% off by default too.

  • You legend! I just bought 6x 8TB drives for an absolute bargain! I've been eyeing up NAS drives for months thank you so much

    • Just curious why you need that much storage?

      • +3

Redundancy - don’t want to risk losing any Linux ISOs

      • copying my comment from another thread: the risk of data loss on a single drive is too high for me, there is some data that my mrs would kill me for if I lost, so multiple drives are setup using zfs + an offsite backup that means only a nuclear bomb will cause us to lose some precious memories and data. also radarr + sonarr

  • I have a couple of 8GB drives literally enoute from the US. Have requested a refunding and bought 12GB drives for the same price. Thanks so much for posting.

  • 8TB Barracuda is gone.
    Everything else still available.

Done an order, but expecting it might be cancelled as a pricing error?

    • Doesn't seem to be out of stock, can still order it…?

      • It’s showing as original price now. Originally it was 41% off or something. I think like ~$120

        • have they deducted from your account yet?

          • @coffeee: Not yet, which doesn’t instil too much confidence.
The pricing looks to be the same as the USD pricing on amazon.com so potentially they loaded AUD instead of USD value

            • @Tmurder91: They usually put a hold on the money but it hasn't happened yet, most likely an error then.

          • @coffeee: It won't be that quick since Amazon only deducts once the good is shipped.

I ordered 2x8TB too so hopefully they update it by the end of this week considering they're from Amazon US

          • @coffeee: Normally amazon deducts when the item is shipped.

  • Was really surprised to see the price on Amazon this morning. Good to see it's already posted here.

  • Thanks Wakrak

    Will order (2 x 8) or (1 x 16/18) or ((1 x 8) + (1 x 16/18)) but struggling how to effectively work the 'Buy 2 save 5%' into things ?

    • The book that he shared in the post, or the kids book above in the comments is eligible for the buy 2 items for 5% discount. You just need to add the book to your order if you’re ordering a single drive.

A 16TB is the better model and cheaper even when buying a book too, compared to 2x 8TB

      • +1

Got it, just a bit slow, thats all.

So… yeah the thing w/larger drives, when they go bad, its a larger drive you loose.

For that reason solely the last few times we've bought, we've purposely again gone w/more 8's

The 16/18's are often slightly cheaper per TB now but yeah, when one goes bad, it's 'twice as bad'

        Have ordered thanks again W

  • Get in quick if you want one!
    The 18TB is now $730
"We updated this item to the best offer currently available at Amazon. The price increased by $451.55"

    • yea i was contemplating on 2, so only got 1x20tb for backup not mirror now ;(.

  • Bummer, none of the 14TBs are on sale.

  • Damn, Just ordered 2x 12TB drives from serverpartdeals.com yesterday..
ah well might as well buy another one from Amazon too

  • +4

Can get this instead of book if you want SAMSUNG EVO Select Micro SD-Memory-Card + Adapter, 128GB microSDXC ~ $16 for buy 2 offer

    • Damn, missed this. Would've been nice to get this instead of the drawing book. Well, at least my niece/nephew are going to be happy.

  • Can you use these drives as regular external storage drives in a external enclosure?

    • Yes.

  • Looks like the same price error on Amazon AU few months ago that did not do the currency conversion from Amazon UK so few things are selling at same digit of GBP but at AUD. I ordered few things and all got cancelled. This time Amazon AU might do the same.

    • Yeah this was mentioned on OzBargain as well. The weird thing is although the dollars values are all the same cents aren't as USD are all .99 and AU are semi random. Does Amazon AU or US automatically adjust cent values or is it the person listing the prices free to decide cent values or something?

  • thankyou for posting this, ordered the 12TB and the SD card,

    great price

  • Planning to build a synology nas in a couple of months so grabbed a 12tb one. Thanks

  • I'm tempted to order enough drives to re-fill my NAS, but the total would be over $1000NZ and I don't want to be hit with a bunch of extra customs fees. It seems like those fees would only be ~$70 total, but it's unclear to me if that's really everything. :/

    • Do it in two separate orders?

      • Customs may combine shipment values for duty/GST if the shipments arrive too close together, so I'm unsure whether that would work. This page says "multiple orders that arrive on the same day from the same supplier", although other wording there implies that if GST and duty aren't charged, then no other fees will be charged either.

        • +1

Make the second order under a different name.

          • @Stoic: And get it shipped to a friend/family house too. That way they are clearly going to be showing as different orders for different people and so not subject to duty

    • -1

Goods over 1000 will incur GST as well I believe so that's another 15% on top.

      • No you already pay GST. And no duties for hard disk. So it's only the BESL + IETF https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/duty-and-gst/faqs/ and perhaps any agent clearance fees that you will have to pay. I think with Amazon you can clear it yourself so you should be able to avoid clearance fees but I'm not sure if that.

        • Oh cool good to know thanks

    • Only other thing is if you need to pay a fee to someone to clear the parcel. You can normally do this yourself, there are various guides here and on GeekZone on this. But some shippers or companies require you to use them to clear it and charge it for it.

Edit: Commonly called brokerage fees or similar, as it's being cleared by a customs broker. I believe YouShop is one that forces you to use NZ Post for clearance.

    • You won't need to pay extra customs fees through Amazon, only extra thing you have to do is maybe get an importers code for orders over $1000.

      • For clarity you would need to pay the BESL+IETF if it's assessed by customs. This is something charged by the NZ government to cover their costs (i.e. it's not a tax per se), so it's not something Amazon can do anything about. I believe that the BESL is to cover all shipments, but for efficiency reasons is only charged when a customs assessment is done. So technically when an item is under $1000 we're being subsided by everyone paying the BESL.

  • Updated description highlighting the fact that this might be a price error.

  • Thanks OP you're a legend as always, unfortunately, I was too late for the 8TB but could get 12TB just now, my NV Shield Plex Server won't run out of space for quite some time now.

  • What do you guys use all this storage for? I got 2 yr old 1tb drive and its just about half full.

    • +9

If you download a lot of Linux ISOs it's easy to fill a lot of space. Especially high quality Linux ISOs e.g. UHD.

      • +1

I only ever eat UHD Linux distros these days - they just taste better :-)

      • Huahua this is the way!

    • In my 4K movie collection each one is around 40GB so

    • the risk of data loss on a single drive is too high for me, there is some data that my mrs would kill me for if I lost, so multiple drives are setup using zfs + an offsite backup that means only a nuclear bomb will cause us to lose some precious memories and data. also radarr + sonarr

  • fuuuuuuuu just as i was checking out the price changed on the 16TB :(

    • Same

    • Same… I went with 4x12TB instead as it's similar price/TB

      • Yea already got 3x 10TB just wanted to upgrade them, oh well next time.

Waiting for 4TB Nvme for $320 deals to hit nz now. 🥵

  • Purchased 4x 20tb this morning.

Now I gotta decide between a new diy nas build vs a nas.

  • Ordered two of the 12TB drives.

At that price, I'm happy to have two mirrored drives, so even if one fails, (hopefully) no data loss.

    • Just picked up two 12TB's as well. Awesome price per TB for a solid product.

Once all was tallied up it was 10 bucks cheaper to buy two from Amazon than to buy one from PBTech.

      Well spotted as always @Wakrak

  • Thanks W, I think I nabbed the last two 8Tb drives.

  • Game over. I was about to get 2x 12TB but it's gone back up while I was still thinking about it. So has the 20TB.

  • +5

My card is charged. Don't have a tracking yet. Fingers crossed.

    • Same here.

      • +1

        Now showing as shipped.

  • Managed to get 4 x 20TB. Fingers crossed they arrive.

  • Ordered 3x20TB - Price NZ$997.14 :D

    • +1

Almost the price of 1 drive from a local retailer

  • +1

Mine is charged too! Very promising!

  • +5

My 2x 16TB order at 0839 have been dispatched

    • +1

      Woohoo!

      • Awesome what is your ETA?

        • +1

Both of my orders have just been shipped (2 x 20TB) in the last 15 minutes.
Placed my orders at 1301 NZT.

          • @dekodE: Damn. Maybe I should of purchased only 2. I purchased 4x20tb at 8am, not shipped. Worried I might miss out. Card not charged yet either.

        • 6 May

    • Lucky you. My 1x 16TB from 3am is still “not yet shipped”

Good to hear some orders being fulfilled though!!

    • Nice. My 4x20tb not shipped yet

  • +1

Amazing deal! Managed to get 2 16tb this morning, which shipped just now

  • Like others, some of our orders are status 'dispatched', ETA 6th as per emails received.

Thanks again W, legend cheapie you are :)

  • Mine is shipped to with the eta 6th :)

  • +1

Looks like everyone has got almost the same eta of 6th. A container load of hdd on the way 😂. Mine still hasn't shipped yet.

  • Managed to snag a 16TB and the sd card, it can sit on my server and I can dump all my backups onto it instead of scattered in USB drives, I think, I dunno, I'll find a use for it. Ideally I would have grabbed two of the 12TB but I missed it. Hasn't shipped yet but credit card has been charged.

  • +1

Still haven't been charged as yet. Anyone else waiting? Last time I waited this long with Amazon they ended up cancelling the order 😐

    • I am still waiting, I purchased 3x 18tb but I did buy something else with it, so, I suspect they are waiting to package it together.

    • I’m still waiting too. Like @sphere1 below I also orders something else. I ordered one of the cheap books to get the 5% extra discount.

It’s probably orders with extra things that are waiting.

      • Still not shipped. Got 12tb and sd card. Payment was taken yesterday. Fingers crossed.

    • i haven't been charged yet, i think mine will be canceled.

    • MMmmmmm, still waiting, not good…

    • Like others have just now been charged 😃

  • Taking so long, get the feeling any unshipped will be cancelled now

    • Charged, not shipped, ETA 6 May here. Still in stock so shouldn't be stuck "awaiting stock" forever like the Terramaster NAS deal last month

  • I thought I had missed it, but just this evening, my card is now showing a pending charge too, so I remain cautiously hopeful :-)

    • I got an email to say that my order was shipped :-)

  • My collection of drives was just charged to my card. Fingers and toes crossed!
