Yep. Chinese coworker of mine loaded up big time. I mean he eats a bag and a half in one sitting so you gotta shop big when there's a good discount.
Are you sure? None of the 3 recent dumping deals mention this and I don't remember it either. Unless it was at Pak'n'Save or something. The siu mai were half price during the dumping deal both recent times. IIRC at least my local Countdown didn't stock the siumai in September so possibly they weren't included back then or maybe just no one noticed. https://www.cheapies.nz/node/40083 and https://www.cheapies.nz/node/38571 and https://www.cheapies.nz/node/35905
As shown by the link in this post, these pau were this same price about 3 months ago which is decent but not quite half price or BOGOF. And this deal also seems to come a few weeks after the dumpling deal. (Well at least the 2 recent times, not sure if it happened for the September one.)
Maybe it was something local to us? Because he plowed through a bag of Aunty Dai's for lunch the other day at work. He managed to half fill the staff freezer with them and we got them on shift, probably a month ago now.
@R35tw: A month ago would tally with it being the same time as the dumpling deal. If you're in Christchurch this might explain it as I think Countdown still often has different deals with the North and South Island and SI deals are often missed here on Cheapies. (Their mailers at least are separate.)
I have a record of the online listings so double checked and on the 17th April at Lincoln Road (Henderson, Auckland) and 23rd at Botany the Auntie Dai BBQ Pork Buns still show as $8.90 but the dumplings and siumai were at $5.80. But I don't bother to record anything from the South Island.
@R35tw: How did your coworker cook the buns? Microwave?
@Juju123: Was referring to the dumplings sorry! No idea re the buns but even the dumplings was a bit of an art form using a fry pan, oil, water and a lid.
There was a same or similar deal for these a few months ago as far as I remember…
I just found it. It was back in February:

@Totto: Yeah that's what I referred to, it's linked in the main post. It's a decent deal but not quite half price or BOGOF. It seems to generally come about a few weeks after the dumpling deal so I thought maybe this caused confusion but it sounds like the OP or at least R35tw is referring to a different deal.
@Nil Einne: Definitely sounds like a different deal.
Not half price. It was pretty much the same as the current deal at 2 for $10 back in February :)
good for a brekky on some days
Normally $7 at most PNS but still alright a deal as it brings it down below Taiping prices for comparable bbq pork buns
A man who never eats pork bun, is never a whole man!
that is a fantastic game
Why can I not get them on special?
Have you tried adding two to your cart?
Weren't they half price with the dumplings a couple months back?
