Trade me is only worth it as a platform on these discount days.

Yup though from using trademe the past 3yrs i have 5x more sales on TM than via FB
I just add the cost of fees ontop to what i would have sold on FB.

But I noticed less sales happen during promo period and more during other times, which make me wonder that from the stats they've gathered, these sales weeks are probably the lowest ones they have, so they use this to boost it for sellers and get more sellers stuff available.

      • I do the same. Stuff moves real easy on there, so I really can't complain

    • The key here is to adjust the closing date so it doesn't fall on a Saturday like most of the other stuff listed on Saturday (too much competition). For higher value items I've always found its better to pay the extra 25c to finish around 7-9pm on the Sunday night when more people are at home, or on their phones.

  • Can you relist the item which was not sold before during this promotion or you have to create new listing? Got couple of items not sold via last promo and would like to put them back.

    • If your auctions have expired you can relist them and get the new promo applied. The promotions don't carry on after their week is up so you get a chance at a new one. If the auctions are still live you will get a fee for taking them down before they expired

I happen to be selling quite a lot currently, on Marketplace. But also list on Trademe during these deals. While I concede the issue may be my pricing, I have noticed a marked decrease in interest lately. Even the lowballers have dropped off. This is across Trademe and Marketplace.

I have some really good quality used tech for sale too (stuff that would ordinarily move), due to my financial circumstances changing. Typically I price mint items at 50% of retail as a starting point… but it's crickets and tumbleweed at the moment.

It's tough out there. I feel the cost of living is hitting people really hard.

    • What ya selling?

    • Yeah. You're not wrong.

I've had stuff take weeks to sell on marketplace that usually goes quick. But conversely I've actually had some luck with stupid low ball offers on trademe. I offered $650 for an rtx 3080 expecting the guy to come back with $800 counter and he just accepted. Kinda nuts. Buyer protection and everything.

Me thinks that cheapies.nz might see a lot more traffic… especially as the last lot of mortgages come up for renewal… But even then the sales that got me on here don't happen as often anymore.

  • How do we find out when these trade me discounts/offers are upcoming?

      Check the Cheapies website!
