  • Is the look and better sound quality the key differences between the 3rd & 4th gen Echo Dot?

I rate the size of the 3rd. Easy to hide away.

    • By all reports the microphones on the 4th gen are much worse than the 3rd gen.

  • Can you sign up for the 2degrees plan to get $400 and cancel the plan the next day?

    • No because they split the 400 over your term period 12/24/36 months

    • Couldn’t find T&C’s on Noel Leeming but have found the T&C’s for the same offer at JB Hifi which says the following:

      Samsung interest free promotion

Limited time or while stocks last. Saving repayable if plan ends within 12 months. Saving: $500 off on S23 Ultra and $400 on Flip4, Fold4, S23 and S23+. Available to new customers purchasing interest free on a $60+ Pay Monthly Plan. Phone balance repayable if you end your eligible plan. 2degrees reserves the right to amend or cancel the offer at any time. Plan, Promotion and Interest Free T&Cs apply. See 2degrees.nz for full T&Cs.

  • Does Harvey Norman price match?

I have a HN gift card and I want a couple of Echo Dots.

    • I have had limited success price matching at my local HN. They say they don't really do it, but I have done the walkaway tactic and the sales person has called me back over with a lower price, this was for our fridge. They flat out refused to price match an Xbox controller with PB tech.

    • They do, did it at my local one a while back for multiple items

  • My smart TV remote control is not very responsive. I use it mostly for turning on and off, it's not very good for navigating. It costs almost $100 to buy a replacement. Is it a good idea to buy a Google TV 4k to use as a control instead?

Yes you can set up & use this to turn on/off tv & change volume. Google TV app also works well to as an onscreen remote.

    • +3

      Yeah, absolutely!

We have a google tv 4k plugged into an older panasonic tv and it works really well, in the last 3 or so years (I ordered mine before they were available in nz) i've had maybe 2 or 3 freeze ups. It does the HDMI cec commands so the power button on the chromecast will turn off the tv but wont turn it on… so it's almost a one remote solution.

The only obvious issues that I have had are that there's no ethernet (but you can USB-C that out) so if you happen to do in home game streaming then it's not great… but that's really niche

You can set the Google TV remote to infrared, that's what I did because my amp is not HDMI cec or ARC.I use optical output from amp. The remote will send a signal to the Google TV and amp to start and stop the TV. My other TV an old LG plasma has no HDMI cec and I just set the remote to infrared. The big advantage over the fire stick is Google TV has its own digital volume control if you cannot get the infrared code which I could not with my veon warehouse tv which has cec and arc so I only need the television remote to change the input.

      • I have it hooked to a very old LG tv and it turns it on too.

      • Just wondering if you can change TV input to Skytv using this remote? Currently I have to use the old TV remote for that (and then use the Sky remote to navigate within Sky).

  • Legend just successfully price matched a couple echo dots at my local Harvey Norman
