  • There doesn't seem to be a qualification on a "new" customer. I closed my card a few months ago so it appears I would be a "new" customer. Sound right?

    • Here's the first point from T&C's "Promotional offer available for all new accounts opened ", not sure if closed account is being considered as new account.

  • What does the following mean?

New Q Mastercard customers approved from online applications completed using the promo code ‘NOFEE’ during the Offer Period (“Eligible Customers”) may qualify to earn a Credit Back for Standard Purchases (Long Term Finance transactions excluded) as follows:
Eligible Customers who spend between $2,000-$2,999 on Standard Purchases before 11.59pm within their first 60 days will receive a credit back of $200 or if their Closing Balance is less than $200 at the time the prize is drawn, an amount equal to the Closing Balance; or
Eligible Customers who spend $3,000-$4,999 on Standard Purchases within their first 60 days will receive a credit back of $300 or if their Closing Balance is less than $300 at the time the prize is drawn, an amount equal to the Closing Balance; or
Eligible Customers who spend $5,000 or over on Standard Purchases within their first 60 days will receive a credit back of $500 or if their Closing Balance is less than $500 at the time the prize is drawn, an amount equal to the Closing Balance.

What if I spend $5000 and pay it off the next day, my closing balance would be $0. does that mean I wouldn't get any credit back

    • +2

I think that is the case, you need to leave a balance of 500 there to get the credit

    • +1

yes, that sounds confusing. I think they mean just spending. To be safe and avoid any interest, I will spend after 1st statement.

    • +2

one more point, you don't need to pay anything on your purchases for first 3 months. So wait for Credit before making any payment.

      • I guess it all depends on when the "prize" is drawn, because you need to make sure you have at least X amount in there owing, for them to match it.

    • Sounds like it's best described as.

Spend $5000 in the first 60 days and get up to $500 of debt written off your card at the time of assessment.

You're not "getting money back" they're just writing off that much in debt (if you have it).

Any purchases made on Q Mastercard during the Offer Period that have been cancelled, refunded, returned or suspended before 8 September 2023 will not be eligible for inclusion in the Offer. The Credit Back will be applied by Friday 15 September 2023 to each qualifying customer’s Q Mastercard account

  • Do you think this offer would work if I "spent" the money by transferring it to a Wise Debit card?
I'm trying to find their definition of standard purchase and cash advance.

    • +2

So far previously that would always meant as cash advance and not a purchase. It also attracted charges so I won't do it unless t&c says otherwise

    • I'm not sure about Q Mastercard but I've used Gem credit card to send money abroad via Wise and it always shows up as a 6 month interest free purchase.

Also, the credit card fee for Wise is $74 when you add $5000.

An easy way to rack up spend, which I don’t think technically breaks any rules..(?)

Book a hotel on the likes of booking.com, make sure it’s a date in future with free cancellation - once the credit had been applied, cancel your booking

    • +1

They may also take the credit back though on upon refund.

    • +1

hey can you share a bit more on what to do here, wouldn't pay by the card and cancelling it be shown as a refund hence not actually spending the money.

  • Applied for mine and it got accepted already. Will give it a go, and see how we go for the next 2 months

    • Can I ask please - is income asked about on the application form and is proof required? I'm wondering if having an irregular income might hinder the application process, thanks.

      • +1

Yes they do ask for your income, as well as bank statements for proof of income.

I must say though they were MUCH more lenient than banks when applying for a credit card.

Westpac declined me on the $500 limit Mastercard (no annual fee). But Qcard approved me a limit 10x more than what I was applying for at Westpac.

Reason I got declined at Westpac was because I have a mortgage between 3 people. But Westpac won't look at that as the mortgage divided by 3, and instead I carry the full load of that mortgage…

        But declined a $500 limit credit card…. come on…..

        • Thanks for the insights, I thought that would be the case.

$500 limit credit card declined - crazy.

        • Westpac declined increase to 1000
BNZ Approved 8k Platinum go figure

  • Can you cancel after say 6 months and still pay no annual fees (fees waived)?

Some ideas on how to manufacture spend:
    - Prepay whatever you need for future use, ie gas gift cards, supermarket gift cards, Prezzy cards (fees apply), prepay electricity or gas, rates (fees apply), I suggest looking at your usual spending to see what you can buy in advance
    - If you deal with IRD, you can pay with a card (fees apply)
    - Some physical retailers let you purchase something online and then refund it to a debit card in store. This is costly to a retailer and there would only be a few left that have not cracked down on it
    - Buy something on Trademe, pay with Ping, resell, and hopefully with an extra profit

    • Love your thinking! Great stuff.

    • Also Sharetank petrol before the fuel tax is added back on. Can pre-pay for 1000L per account.

    • I don’t know if Trade Me is worth the hassle as they also take 7% in fees.

      • you dont have to resell on trademe

Normally any returns in store like costco, clothing store would ask for the card to put credit back on. Pay with qcard and present another credit card for returns. I am almost certain qcard won't know about the returns.

I have many times used my debit card to get the refund back when used credit card as a purchase.

Assuming you can 100% return the item.

  • Would you be able to buy a sharesies gift card as a purchase and then have this added to your sharesies account and then withdraw the money back without investing?

    • Anyone know how this appears on your statement?

  • Anyone found that their bank verifications and document portals don’t work?

What a painful process so far.

    • Yes, it was a very painful process for us signing up last time. Had to call, then wait, then email then wait then call….

    • Figured it out - they called and re-sent the link for document uploads. Received approval tonight so all sorted in a day with a bit of effort.

  • Anyone received their card yet? Got approved on 15th of June, but still waiting for the card to arrive :(

    • +1

yep, card arrived in a couple of days

      • dam, guess I need to contact them to see what's going on.

    • I got approved on 17 June and am still waiting - call centre said it could take up until 12 July for the card to arrive which is insane. :-(

      • Mine arrived on Monday when I got home from work, after I posted here and then rung them.

So that’s probably the magical steps, asking cheapies, then ringing them up. Yours will probably arrive tomorrow now :)

      • I’ve asked for them to send another one - it’s just been 15 business days so I am pretty sure the original one was misdelivered or lost.

  • Hi I just received my card today. Just want to double check I haven't missed any step as throughout my application process there hasn't been any mention of this annual fee waived for 1 year & up to $500 cashback. Is it the same for you too ? Thanks!

    • No mention of it anywhere on my account either. I'll be double checking with them tomorrow

      • +2

Forgot to report back. I have called them to check. As long as you have entered the promotion code during sign up and got approval by July 2nd, the deal is on.

  • Merged from Q Mastercard deal

For those who signed up for this deal https://www.cheapies.nz/node/41155 earlier this year, have you received your cash back yet?

I have spent the threshold mentioned in the deal but still waiting for the cash back.

Looking through the Ts&Cs it does say 'The Credit Back will be applied by Friday 15 September 2023 to each qualifying customer’s Q Mastercard account.'

But just wondering if anyone has already received their cash back from this deal?

    Cheers

    • +1

I haven't received mine yet - but when I joined under the flight centre mastercard promo (which is the same provider - flexicards) the payment was made on the day of (that is, I'd expect the credit to arrive on the 15th)

      • +1

I see, thanks for that. Will report back on Friday then

    • Crossing my fingers and toes for tomorrow - no credit back yet.

      • Just checked my balance and received my $500 credit!

10% cash back that’s pretty good!

    • +1

I got my $500 credit as well today.

    • +1

      Just got mine, yusss!

    • +1

Got the 500 today, great deal!

    • +1

Do we cancel our cards now? To avoid the annual fee, and also now that the deal is done.

      • Ive asked when the annual fee is charged. Also planning for cancel as don’t see any reason to keep it.

        • Yeah planning to cancel in next few days too.
