Something very important is happening at your local Caltex on Thursday 12 November 2015. We’re giving you a chance to save 10 cents per litre on fuel* to celebrate the launch of the Swipe for Starship drive. Save 10 cents per litre on up to 50 litres when you spend $40 or more on petrol or diesel at participating Caltex locations

EDIT: I note that BP has done a late add of 10c/l discount for Thursday 12 Nov, for Canterbury region only.

  • Does anyone accumulate fuel discounts with AA SmartFuel on here? I tend to just use them each time.

I read it will save you money if you "save" instead of "use" the discount when spending over $40.

    • The main problem with 'Accumulate" is that the discount has a 'use-by-date' based on the day you bought fuel. If you don't use them by that date (30 days?), you lose them entirely. I've accumulated heaps of discount a few times, lost track of the dates and lost them. Now I don't bother and just use them every time.

So Accumulate possibly gives more of a total discount, but only if you keep track of them. I think it sucks that they have such a short use-by period. That's probably why AA are trying to encourage 'Accumulate'. Like with so many other similar schemes, they know many/most people won't keep track and end up defaulting on the points. Which is a win for the businesses involved. They get the engagement without having to honour the discount.

No, if you get the discount this month, it will expire at the end of the next/following month. But yes I agree, you can easily lose track of time, and allow the discount to expire, just like that, poof, gone.
