Discount will be off the white sticker (full) price

  • Will this include sodastream refills?

    • +1

      usually does yes.

      • +2

Be great if it does - they usually limit Sodastream refills to 10-20% these days when they have a 'storewide' sale discount like 40% off everything. Thanks.

        • Yeah most I've seen recently has been 15% although I've only been looking for past 2 months or so and did miss some sales (but did include some 25% off).

          It's also a standard exclusion in their T&C https://www.briscoes.co.nz/shopping-online/terms-and-conditi…

          • @Nil Einne: Dang it, I guess I won’t be going in to check out the KitchenAid stand mixers after all.

            • +1

@sourcream: I think the last time this sale happened people mentioned they got the kitchenaid mixers

        • +2

Can confirm it does work for Sodastream :) got 50% off refills and syrups! Fingers crossed it works for everyone

          • @wildchild: Hello :) Which store did you go to?

            • +1

@CrissieZ8: Hey this was at the Blenheim store

              • @wildchild: Thanks! Still working tonight for gas refills at Henderson. Also syrups. It just applies so should be nationwide unless they get rid of it.

    • I always used to get my sodastream gas refills and oral-B toothbrush heads during their sales, often it was 40-50% off, but they cottoned on to that and now specifically exclude those types of branded items from their big discounts

  • The Breville Dynamic Duo will come down to $1450, with previous lowest price of $1689 for a very impressive coffee machine for those of you looking for a step up from the Barista Express

    • Very curious how this would compare to a comercial unit.

Obviously with a commercial unit it needs to be plumbed in but surely if you are spending this kind of money it should be a consideration?

      • +1

The biggest let down in this package is the grinder. It is just ok and that is about it. The dual boiler machine (BES920) works really well. Biggest upgrade to this would be a better grinder.

TBH you aren't going to get a decent E61 group head at this price, unless you want to buy something X years old.

        • That's good to know! Would recommend anyone who is interested keeping an eye out for a wnd commercial grinder. Can be picked up for a decent price and most run of a standard 10amp plug.

      • +2

I've got a Breville Dual Boiler (BES900, not 920 - Only a few minor differences)

It's a really good machine. Standard commercial 58mm sized portafilter. 9 bar pump. They use Ulka pumps which are the same used in commercial machines. PID adjustable extraction temperature (920 also allows for adjustable steam temperature as well as the ability to descale the boilers)

Some people say you really need a better grinder. I've seen some people say you need the best of the best grinder to pair with this machine. Truth be told, if you were to blind taste test with these people, they aren't going to notice the difference. If you wanted to hone in your skills on a machine like this, you'd go for a bottomless portafilter to work on even distribution which is a large factor in why some coffees taste horrible

        • I guess as with any grinder the key thing is to know how to adjust the grind if the extraction is too long or short.

          • +1

@Shay84: The concept of that is the same no matter the grinder - If your extraction is too short, grind finer. Too long, grind coarser

The benefit of expensive grinders is excellent consistency (great in a commercial environment, pumping out coffee all day. Is this needed for a home machine, your call. I've never had consistency issues with a cheaper Breville grinder doing 2-4 coffees a day) and the more expensive ones are usually 0 retention which means you could weigh out a single dose of beans (say 20g) put this into the grinder and you'll get the same amount out. I mitigate this issue by weighing my ground coffee

    • Any Nespresso machines good value for money? Not a huge coffee drinker but thinking of getting one due to ease of using the capsule.

  • Might be time to finally buy a Karcher Window Vac - looks like I could get this WV V6 Plus for just $125? Will pop in on my way home to try.

    • Great find! Is it worthwhile to get the WV6 over the WV2? ($125 vs $95 after 50% discount)

      • I think so, you can compare them on the Karcher website, the WV6 has a dirty water tank capacity of 150mls (vs.100), runs for 100 mins (vs 25) and charges in 170 mins (vs 230) and it has an LED screen showing how many minutes left available.

        • Do remember, V6 is heavier as well. Considering you have to move it around that extra weight is pretty annoying along with extra tank capacity. I have V2 and normally I won't be cleaning windows for more then 30 minutes. I can't recall how long it last on single charge and never ran out of juice to be frank. V2 is absolutely fine for most use cases.

          • @ace310: Good feedback, cheers. Looks like it's 160g heavier + extra tank capacity weight when full. I might stick with the V6 as my house has a ridiculous number of large windows; I clean one every day and it takes 3 weeks to clean them all, at which point the first one is getting due for a clean again haha

            • @Rubenite: Is it due to crying windows? I hardly need to clean mine inside, outside maybe once every 6 months
How do you clean the framing inside when you open the windows (inside the groves, that is where I find it most painful to clean, covered with grime etc

              • +1

@Joe: Yes, bad combination of crying windows causing mildew growth and two kiddies with sticky fingers. Agreed, cleaning the framing is definitely the worst part. I usually use a sugar soap wipe or antibacterial wipe for the framing as I can wrap it around my finger and get into all the nooks and crannies. Then just a spray of vinegar and wet and dry microfiber cloths for the glass plus elbow grease.

FYI I was able to buy the V6 at this price just now at Papanui :)

        • good deal, i got a v6 plus a few months back at bunnings and i find it a good buy, makes it alot easier to clean indoors.

    • Looks like Karcher are probably excluded?

      https://www.briscoes.co.nz/shopping-online/terms-and-conditi…

      • +1

Good spot, though that also says Soda Stream is excluded and @wildchild above had success with that? I'll go in later and report back

        • Please do.

          • +1

@Avantime: Just successfully purchased a V6 at Papanui for $125, after flashing the friends and family image. Interestingly they have some printed promotion terms and conditions at the checkout which don't say Karcher is excluded (but do say Soda Stream is excluded). Very happy!

      • +2

Just bought 2x Karcher WV2 and a KitchenAid KSM190. Very very happy :D

    • +1

One thing to consider is how often you think you'll use it. I bought a Kogan version for $30 (hasn't been back in stock since - think I bought it in April). Has been great. Smashed out all of the windows in one day. Has been good for sucking up window condensation too. But I've only used it once in two months. So, I'm pretty happy with only spending $30.

      • yep, its one thing for use case and another for buying stuff on sale and piling them in the garage

  • +4

Soda stream gas refils are half price ($13.50).
    Syrups half price
    (Briscoes, Bush Inn Christchurch)

    • Thanks! Still working tonight for gas refills at Henderson. Also syrups. It just applies so should be nationwide unless they get rid of it.
