Day 1. I went with Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

  • +3

I always forget to come back and do these daily ones every day unless I get a daily reminder email.

  • +11

    Day 2: The Bund, Shanghai

    • +9

Your best move might be to temporarily hide competitions from Air New Zealand. I'd say the majority appreciate the answer being given (just a guess though).

      • +3

did you check the T&Cs? you have a better chance of winning if you don't get within 1km :D

Eligible Participants who placed their pin within a 1km radius of the latitude and longitude coordinate of the Prize Location will go in the draw for that day to win one prize of 5,000 Airpoints Dollars™ ("Daily Pin Draw").
All other Valid Entries outside of the 1km radius will go in the draw to win one of 20 prizes of 500 Airpoints Dollars™. ("Daily Spot Prize Draw")

        • +1

ooooh. Good spotting. Might have to put my pin in the middle of the ocean 😄

          • +1

@Wakrak: weird aye. FAQs says this, which could be taken either way?
"If you drop your pin within a 1km radius of the latitude and longitude coordinate of the correct location you will go in the daily draw of 5,000 Airpoints Dollars. Winners will be randomly drawn from the pool of people that correctly guess within the 1km radius. All other valid entries for the day will go in the draw to win one of 20 prizes of 500 Airpoints Dollars."

            • +1

@gcnz: To me that seems like everyone gets entered into the 20 prizes of 500 airpoints dollars regardless if they are within 1km or not.

              • +1

@kfr23: Not sure about that logic. It says all "other" entries so the wrong ones (only) go for the 20 prizes of 500 airpoints

            • +3

@gcnz: I've emailed and pointed out the discrepancy between the FAQs and T&Cs, will let you know what they say

            • +1

@gcnz: Enter your details to go in the draw to win 5,000 Airpoints Dollars™ or a spot prize of 500 Airpoints Dollars™.

Plus all entries throughout the month go into the Grand Prize draw to win one of 20 prizes of 1,000 Airpoints Dollars™.

        • +2

Looks like it might be better odds to put a pin in the ocean, assuming most people can guess where it is. Response from Air NZ:

Thanks for getting in touch. The FAQs and Ts&Cs are referring to the same process, just with slightly different wording. The first line of the FAQs is referring to the Daily Pin Draw for 5,000 Airpoints Dollars, and the ‘All other valid entries’ line is referring to the Daily Spot Prize Draw for 500 Airpoints Dollars.

So while there are more Daily Spot Prizes to be won, it will depend on how many entries end up in each pool about what the odds are of winning that prize. And perhaps also personal preference about whether people would like to be in to win a higher Airpoints Dollar amount or be in the prize pool that has a larger number of smaller prizes.

I've been using ChatGPT to get the answers. Works really well.

Day 3: Tian Tan Buddha (Hong Kong) also known as The Big Buddha (Hong Kong)

  • +6

The answer to your riddle is the Tian Tan Buddha statue, also known as the Big Buddha, located at Ngong Ping in Lantau Island, Hong Kong1. It is the second-largest seated bronze Buddha statue in the world, rising 34 metres high and weighing over 250 tons1. To reach the statue, visitors must climb 268 steps2. The statue faces towards Mainland China and is a popular tourist attraction in Hong Kong1.

      This competition is pretty educational.

  • +3

I know someone that won an instant 500 airpoints at a physical competition location in Taupo.

  • +5

Day 3: shibuya scramble crossing, Tokyo, Japan

    • +1

Oh I'm too slow! I figured this one out my self aswell haha

  • +4

    Day 4: Taipei 101 ???

    • +1

Taipei 101’s elevator is touted as the world’s fastest, reaching a top speed of 37.7MPH. It carries passengers from the 5th floor to an 89th floor observatory in just 37-seconds.

  • +1

China will be super angry…. :D

I once held the world’s tallest building title. I am still my country’s tallest. My elevators are the third fastest going 84 floors in 37 seconds.

  • +6

    Day 6: Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul

    • +2

Thank you for getting back on track with the correct day # 🤓, and the answer for the day.

  • +7

Day 7: Surfers Paradise Beach, QLD, Australia

  • +8

Day 8: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)

  • +7

Day 9: Uluwatu Temple, Bali, Indonesia

  • +11

    Day 10: Mt. Fuji, Japan

  • +10

Day 11: N Seoul Tower, Seoul, South Korea

    • +1

Today's clue really had ChatGPT confused. It first suggested CN Tower (built in 1976), then Ostankino Tower (built in 1967), and then the Berlin TV Tower (actually built in 1969!). At that point I gave up pointing out that its guesses didn't match the riddle :-)

Won $500 Airpoints at a local event!

      Congrats.
      Nice prize.

This post is labelled as closed but the competition is still running. Any idea how this can be changed. Thanks

  • +10

Day 16: Amédée Lighthouse Nouméa, New Caledonia

  • +11

    Day 17: Navala, Fiji

    • +1

Is it just me or does the search suck?!
The last few days it hasn't been able to find the locations. I need to go into google maps to find it and then manually work out where it is on the AirNZ site. Even if you do a generic search for 'Fiji', you end up at a random location in Cyprus!

      • +4

TIL there's a search function. I had been doing the hard way!

      • +1

Yes, the search function didnt manage to find the lighthouse in New Caledonia

        • +1

          blame me :(

      • +1

This is how I've been doing it for the past 16 days! I've never noticed the search bar until you mentioned it today. My eyes just naturally focuses on the square in the middle of the screen. 🤦‍♂️

      • +1

Didnt even know you could search, iv been manually finding them all!

    Day 18 - Peahi/Jaws Maui for todays (maybe) :D

    • +11

From my googling, I wondered if it was Teahupo'o in Tahiti?

      • +1

        haha totally could be ¯_(ツ)_/¯
        :D

      • +1

I also guess Teahupo'o. Jaws gets bigger but Teahupo'o is "heavier"

        • +2

Yeah Teahupo'o seems to be the answer, apparently known for is heavy, glassy waves and is commonly referred to as the "heaviest wave in the world" according to Wiki.

      • +1

        Agreed

      • +2

Where did you place the pin? on the town or on the break?
I choose the break. No idea if this is right or not and you need to be within a 1km radius

Day 19: Sale’aula Lava fields, Samoa

aka Lopana, Samoa, go right to see brown

  • +9

    Day 20: Kolovai, Tongatapu, Tonga

  • +9

Day 21: Times Square, New York

  • +2

    Day 22: Houston, Texas, USA

    • +5

It says about learning about stars and planets so maybe its a bit more specific - Space Centre in Houston?

      • +2

I was thinking it could be George Observatory in Houston, they offer observatory use for public.

        • +4

Good thinking. I had a good look at both places' websites. I found out that George Observatory is only open to public on Saturday nights (weather permitting) and the Space Centre Houston is open every single day (10am-5pm most days). Given that this is an AirNZ competition trying to promote (mass) tourism and considering the locations of both of these destinations (Space Centre is in the city area i.e. more accessible), I am more inclined to think Space Centre would be the answer AirNZ is looking for.

And also the clue is: "here you can learn all about the stars and planets above."

          'Learn', not 'look'. 🤓

    • +1

I went with the George Observatory
