  • I had a Samsung Evo SD card fail after 6 months, never had any issues with SanDisk.

    • Got a year warranty on them so hope you got a refund!

      • Yeah I ended up getting a replacement

And I've had most of my SanDisk cards die within a year, so it's all luck.

    • Have a Samsung in my dashcam for 5 years still going strong.
Seems to be a matter of luck with the exception of really cheap ones

  • Are these prices cheaper than AliExpress?

Does Ali have a local warranty with stores you can visit

Probably not, but I strongly recommend you don't buy them from any Chinese online retailer.

They are often dodgy-as-hell misrepresentations. Packaging might look fine, card might appear to work, it might even work for a while, but there's a high likelihood that what you are buying is not legit.

Sellers (or their sources) regularly brand and package cards that are:
      - smaller than they report to the OS. As soon as you start writing over the bytes that are non-existent, you'll start losing data without even knowing it.
      - a different brand
      - relabelled OEM
      - B grade/rejects
      - slower speed or lower write cycles than advertised
      - etc, etc.

It's incredibly common, and often consumers are none the wiser. If you want reliability, find a legitimate local supplier.

  • You can get B grade Micro SD from Aliexpress, approx $20 landed for 256GB bought last week. Offbrand of course.

I'm sure you know what you are doing but you have to be careful that those aren't fake. So it's actually 8, 16 or 32gb with a hacked command line to make the computer think, and report it, as a 256gb. It used to be common with usb sticks. You would get them selling 1, 2 and 5tb usb sticks. In the case of 5tb it is actually impossible! To test the real capacity of your card you can use H2testw

      • Yes always use h2testw if in doubt.

        • Yes always look at the 1 star reviews. This one is actually legit but there were fake ones in the $10 range; it was actually hard finding a real capacity one.

  • Can also price match noel leeming.

  • Almost identical pricing on these at the Samsung EPP store if you have access, but with free delivery and 1000% certainty of genuine product

    • Are you implying NZ retailers are selling counterfeits lol

      • Apologies, I thought I was replying to the AliExpress comments above!

Probably around 10 years back I purchased a counterfeit pair of Sennheiser headphones from PBTech (I had another original pair so could compare them side by side) ended up returning and the PBtech salesman confirmed these didn't seem authentic but was puzzled to how they got them in stock.

        • Did not know of that probably a corrupt employee in the chain all the way back to the distributor (Ingram Micro in that case)
