Dyson Gen5detect Complete $1049 Delivered @ Dyson

190

Dyson are having a spring promo on their stick vacuum range. Great price on the Gen5.

The 'Absolute' version is also available from the usual big box retailers for $50 less, but lacks the floor stand and additional attachments. Concensus from previous Cheapies deals is that the extra $50 is worth it.

  • very tempted to upgrade my V6 to this.

OP did you have one? How does this one compare to V10/V11? Is it worth the extra $200?

    • If you're on a V6 and looking to upgrade, this is a no brainer.

I am a V10 owner myself and if I could trade in my V10 + $200, I'd do it in a heartbeat. V10 doesn't have swappable batteries that you can click and release, you'd need screwdrivers etc. V10 also doesn't have the LCD screen which they started implementing since V11.

The last time Gen5detect Complete was posted on here was for $1349.

      • Thanks for sharing.

I'm in no hurry to upgrade as my battery have been replaced last year but looking for a newer dyson deal.

I actually bit the bullet last week when it was at $1249, arrived today. I called Dyson support and they've refunded the difference, can't argue with that result. Great service.

Upgrading from a knackered v6 too, will post my thoughts one I charge up this evening.

      • Shot Dyson.

      • Oh wow they do that?! That's awesome customer service.

      • Cheers.
Their customer service is one of the reason I consider getting it again.

Bought by V6 in 2017, had issue with the battery in 2020 and replaced it out of warranty. Then that battery gone faulty again, and replaced it again in 2022. so the 6 year old V6 still sucks (in a good way :P).

So quick update after a bit of use this evening.

Holy attachments Batman! I doubt I would use half of these, although the dock is handy I guess.

Suction power is light years ahead of the v6, kinda gross how much stuff it pulls out of the carpets.

For me battery life isn't really any better, it's just working harder for the same time period.

Someone further down mentioned the additional weight too, and they're not wrong. Additional resistance is added from the suction but I'll get used it it. Mrs was worried it might get tiresome for her tho.

Overall a massive upgrade. Happy customer here.

  • This is a great price. The recent Dyson deal was around the same price, but without all the extra accessories and those alone cost at least $300.

  • Damn, brought this when it was around $1300, replaced a samsung jet 90. As with every vacuum upgrade, I cleaned the Samsung and vacuumed the house. I followed up with the Dyson and wow! Picked up so much fine dust it filled 3/4 of the bin.

Vacuum wars on youtube did a review on the gen 5, it was the first stick vacuum he has tested which could replace his normal plug in one.

  • Bought v12 last year around same time for same price I think. Gen5 are great and more powerful. Only downside is they are on bit heavier side which was a deal breaker for me.

So keep that in mind if you intend to clean for longer time it fills heavy in hand. Try in store in case before buying.

  • Difference Gen 5 vs Absolute?

    Same mechanics?

    • Do you mean Gen5 Complete vs Gen5 Absolute? If so I think it's just a difference of 3 attachment accessories and different doks (Complete = Floor Dok Multi, Absolute = Wall Dok)

      • Oh right so same thing, just different accessories package 📦

        • Floor dock is worth it for $50

          • @ace310: I’ll probably just go with the same wall hang in the garage by the rubbish bin

  • I've used this ever since it first came out.
No doubt this is the best stick vacuum I've ever used.

I would re-purchase in a heart beat, this price is a bargain.

  • I'm considering this or perhaps wait for the submarine to go on discount. Anyone that has the v15 submarine can comment on the mopping function?
Is it molping well or just wetting the floor like those robovac does?

  • Guh I paid $1500-1600 for this earlier in the year (came with a few of the accessories). Dyson never used to discount their newest model products so heavily - what gives?

Just be aware that this is a heavy unit. If you think your existing Dyson is heavy - this is heavier.

    • They have brought out the Submarine floor head, which is not compatible with any existing model Dyson (including the Gen 5) because of the software. Apparently all new versions of the v12, v15 etc will be compatible with the submarine from 2024 but they can’t change the software on old versions.

      • Isnt the Gen5 the latest model? So does that mean the submarine floor heads from 2024 will work on the Gen5?

        • We’re aware that it would have been better if it was backwards compatible. We’re ensuring that every new [version of] V12 and V15 that we make and everything that you’ll see in markets from next year… will be capable of taking it.

@Sadie: If there's any reason to not jump on this current deal, this would probably be it.

Also probably the reason why it is priced as low as it is because they're trying to clear non-compatible stock asap.

  • We have this and can say it's bloody amazing. Has more suction power than our old Dyson corded model. This is a great price too! As other have said, Vacuum Wars on YT rated this very highly.

The stand is super useful too and would def buy with that again.

  • awesome - bought. Been waiting for the GEN5 Complete to drop a lot, doubt will get more than 40% off.
