The tyre is a throwaway after this, usually the pair. I haven't found a tyre shop that would be willing to deal with a tyre patched this way as they say it's impossibly to clean.

I would absolutely agree with this. Highly recommend to avoid this if you can.

      • I dont have a spare on my car (no spacesaver or anything). Whatbdob you suggest of I get a flat tyre?

        • +1

I also don't have spare tyre in my car. I have this portable pump from aliexpress. Very useful if you have slow leak. Call AA or something in case. I would rather save the tyres and not spend 2x$400+ for the replacement.

Get the kit mentioned below and similar pump for emergencies.

          • @ace310: Have you had to use yours yet? Wondering how the performance in as I'm in the same boat where I don't have a spacesaver, but it came with a tyre inflation kit (which I assume is the Mazda factory one but bought this 2nd hand), have yet to try it but in the case that its faulty, would wanna get something for a peace of mind

            • @Vena: Do you mean the pump? Yes, I use it regularly to top up tyre pressure on both of my cars. Have been using it for more than 10+ months now. Have got EV & a hybrid. I keep this in the EV.

I keep my EV tyre pressure around 41 psi. Pump is bit loud but it also can be used as power bank & light so very handy. Battery does last. It can take around 2-4mins to top up around 2-3psi so maybe slow? Don't have anything to compare with other then standard petrol station pump which is high powered anyway.

Yep I would recommend a plug kit like this as a better option that will likely save the tyre.

      • How do you use that ifb you get a flat out on the road?

        • +1

Used the kit the other day on my Pathfinder, which has a electric pump you plug into the cigarette lighter. Jack the car up, find the hole by putting air into the tire plug the hole and you're on your way.

        • As per the second sentence of the advert: "Combine this kit with a 12V compressor or pump and you'll have everything you need to get moving again"

Should note that many cars that don't come with a spare tire (or run flat tires), come with a little 12v compressor. My Nissan leaf did. (has goo too, but it has long expired, and (if I were able to source it easily in NZ, would cost a lot more than this SCA goo).

          • @scott: My Pathfinder probably comes with the same kit, goo is transferred into the pumping system itself and applies it inside the tire. All you have to do is refill the empty bottle with 'slime' it's all the same stuff. At the end of the day, 30 to $40 just to clean the tire is still cheaper than $800 transport charge. Doesn't really matter if you've got a new car because they usually come with breakdown insurance for the first three years. I also have a couple of those high-pressure sealant cans as well, as I'm not spending any time on the side of the road if I can help it.

    • Oh is it?
I guess if you were like completely stranded and if it's your very last option then thats when it can be used :(

      good to know though!

  • Great for people with Nissan Leaf's and an expired goo bottle like me.

As others have said, it is a real pain for the tire shop to clean the goo out of the tire, if they are willing to do it at all, so use as a last resort only.

Also if you have tire pressure sensors (I don't), it can damage them. Again last resort only.

  • Not sure if the tyre is a throwaway after using this. I had a similar one on my Ford Fiesta, came with the car as it didn't have a spare tire. Used it on a flat tyre to take it the tyre place. The tyre place charged about $30 to clean the inside of the tyre before fixing the tyre using a plug.
