For 1/10 the price, I bought these from AliExpress for ~$35 and wrote a review
    https://danvelopment.me/2023/08/01/lenovo-thinkplus-xt98-ear…

    Would recommend.

Try qcy t13. Excellent and well reviewed. Been using it for a year now.

      Highly recommended on Ozbargain

      • Do they have ANC?

I'm just Googling now and they advertise ENC and "Quad Noise Cancellation" but never use the term ANC anywhere.

ENC is for clearing up your microphone when making voice calls.

Normally when ANC is present, they shout the letters "ANC" from the rooftops.

        • No They don't. But they are really good if you need them as your daily set indoors. They fit quite well as well to isolate ambient noise. Phone calls or teams calls are really great. Music is pretty decent. I am not an audiophile so can't rate that bit.

          • @ace310: Ah okay, ANC is a must for me now.

I don't mind middling audio quality (especially at the gym), but ANC is a huge quality of life improvement.

I can run the volume lower, I can't hear treadmills next to me, nor the gym music and when I was on the plane, it COMPLETELY blocked out the drone of the plane. I slept with my headphones on but no sound playing.

@ace310: Nice, I'm going to get a pair and see how they compare and probably put another page up.

I wonder if they're the same ANC drivers as the XT98s since they are same form factor, similar price and same "quantity" of ANC.

They also talk about QCY HT05s at that link and say 40dB "Hybrid ANC" so might get a pair of those and see if they're just making shit up for numbers sake.

                • @danvelopment: Let us know of your feedback if you get them. Thanks. I need another pair as couple of times I forgot mine at work and had to pull out wired buds which hardly stays in my ear.

    • Hey. Read your review, and for the price, they look pretty darn good. Jumped into Ali but couldn’t for the life of me find a pair of xt98’s with ANC - the specs on all the $10-$20US pairs all say ANC - No.
Has the model changed that you’re aware of?
There are a few other Lenovo models that do have ANC listed - just curious whether I’m missing something. Cheers

      • Ugh, the stupid automated filter has blocked (auto-unpublished) my comment on "referral link" despite it not being.

Hell, it isn't even a link that's valid anymore, but of course all context is lost with the comment. And there's no way to dispute it, what a garbage system.

This is what happens when you just do a lazy coding session.

        • Anyway, had another look and you're absolutely right. Goneburgers. Maybe try the QCY ANC ones ace310 recommended. I'm super interested to see how the HT05s perform seeing as they advertise "better" ANC.

          • @danvelopment: Perfect. I’m after a pair and will give those a try instead. Glad to know I wasn’t going insane on the xt98’s! Cheers

Tempted as I have the XM3, great headphones but the fit has always been a problem for me as they seem to slide their way out if you're moving around quite a bit even with the different tips, feel like these would fit much better

    • I have the xm3's also. Amazing noise cancellation and sound. Good fit for me with my fat head :) I can only imagine how good these would be 2 generations on.

      • +1

I think you are talking about the headphones not the "in ear" earbuds

        • +2

Ohhh true. Reading and comprehension fail - thanks for the heads up lol .

You would be surprised. Many people think the xm3 still have better sound.

XM5 is worse in a few ways to the XM3 and XM4's if you do a bit of research.

Another budget alternative that sounds incredible is from this previous post:
    https://www.cheapies.nz/node/42443

I ended up getting them and they punch so far above their weight it's ridiculous. 8 hour listening and 15 charges out of the case, fantastic ANC etc.

Currently an even better discount in Amazon than the above posted deal, so if anyone is getting something and needs to pad the cart these are only NZ$35.84 at the moment without shipping.

And for those concerned about fit, these use the wings to wedge inside the outer ear ensuring a much better fit. Anecdotal, but apple's earpods ALWAYS fell out for me, but these Baseus barely shift an inch even when exercising or gardening.

    • Is there a general consensus on a cheaper over or on ear headphone equivalent, an alternative with good capabilities and decent anc outside the top main usual suspects ?

      • If you can go corded, excellent corded headphones are dirt cheap on TradeMe since many people can't use them anymore.

I bought Bose QC3s for $30 and got new earpads and batteries from AliExpress.

Have them plugged into a GSX 300 on my computer, and have corded my old S10e (with a 3.5mm jack) into an MP3 player if I need portability.

https://www.scarbir.com/truewireless - good review site for other alternatives

    • Yup. Great site. Bought my qcy t13 after review from there and Ozbargain recommendations.

  • Dang, just bought some a month ago. Got these after the missus claimed my XM4s.
    Over the last ones:
The good - I feel battery life is better, I just seem to get more out of them, and they're slightly smaller
The bad - they're slippery, I've dropped them and the case a few times already, never had an issue with the matte finish on the XM4s

    • That's $40 more expensive…

      • Yep. But some people cant wait :)

        • Well, Noel Leeming better then, price match + flybuys😉
