  • Nice one OP. Beat me by 10 seconds. I'll tidy this up now.

Update: beat you on Geekzone by one minute 😄 (looks like your post was removed. Guessing you didn't meet the posting requirements).

    • +1

Same again. Had all ready, except had all 3 plans so was removing one of the plan haha. This was supposed to be released on 19th or 20th as per last year.

  • +1

Excellent first post worth an up vote. I don't need one as I got it last time around.
Fingers crossed you may even get a monthly prize.

  • I just signed up to make the post. You beat me to it.
Welcome deal tho, missed out on the November 50% off so seriously needed it.

  • Nice first post OP

  • No small :(

    • It’s a no brainer to go for the large, if you have a friend willing to split it with you

      • +3

        Not if you don't need 15gb a month :)

        • +1

I struggle to use my 1.5GB a month

  • +1

good…now I need to find someone to share the large plan. haha

    • Happy to buy one voucher off you for half, already have a SIM. DM me.

  • +2

Been with them 2 years. Zero complaints for a no fuss (or frills) cheap data plan.

    • +1

My only complaint is the no short codes. Recently made a purchase with Amazon and they split the order into 3 and so made 3 transactions on my credit card at the same time. Was flagged by the banks fraud team and they blocked my card. They sent me a text saying that and to reply with yes or no that it was me to unblock the card but I couldn't reply so have to wait 40 minutes on the phone to get through to them and tell them it was me.

Tbf over the last year I've probably only wanted to send like 3 or 4 short codes.

      • Have you tried?

Cause my doctor and chemist both work.

        • It depends on the short code - free codes you can send but not premium.
Here's a list of codes to show which are free and which will cost to send (and therefore not possible from the prepay Kogan plan)

          • @bigcheese: I figured as much.

I've only bothered to try reciently since everyone keeps saying it doesn't work. 2 for 2 so far.

        • Yeah I tried and it said failed to send. I think there is a short list of numbers where it does work.

What bank? They are charging you for their convenience.

Any1 keen to share the medium plan?

    • Yes. I do

  • +3

    Great deal !

But forgot to turn OFF "Auto-Renewal" for one of my accounts, so had to pay full price :( !!
Lesson's turn OFF "Auto-Renewal" otherwise next year, you will be paying full price !

So got a Spare Large plan if anyone is keen to buy if off me !
Paid $165 for it, so how about $150 for a Large Plan, needs to be activated "Voucher expires at 11:59pm on 31/12/2023."
Not sure if this is place for this type of action ?

    • +3

You can use the Classifieds to sell it.

The other thing that I have done in additon to turning off the auto-renewal is change the card that is loaded on the account to a Wise diigital card number.
Once it has been verified I simply delete the card.
Gives a fail safe just in case auto-renewal is not turned off (or if it somehow turns back on again which I have heard before).

      • I already have a existing plan which expires in a days time.
Guessing Buy one get one free is not available under renew options?

    • im keen to buy ur large plan. can u dm me please?

      • cant send u a DM mate. can u text me

      • +1

hiya, started a private message, did you get it ? cheers

        • received mate & replied. thanks

    • Hi, I'm keen.

    • Thank you.

      10 days to go ;)

    • +1

      [SOLD] sorry team :) !!

    • FYI, I had the same auto-renewal problem and contacted them through live chat to ask for a refund. They were happy to do it, and have bought the voucher now :)

    • I already have a existing plan which expires in a days time.
Guessing Buy one get one free is not available under renew options?

      • +1

You can still buy the BOGOF offer if you have an existing plan.
Make sure your autorenew is turned off as you will likely get charged full rates when your current plan rolls over otherewise.

Buy the offer and say that you need a SIM card - they are always useful to have and don't cost any more even though you don't need it.
You should receive your two voucher codes via email fairly quickly and can then apply the code to your existing plan.

Just means you need to onsell or find someone who can use the other code.

        • Great thanks , remind me again, if i need to port another Spark number to BOGOF voucher, I need to do it at the time of purchasing?

          • @Joe: If you are porting from another carrier you will also need a Kogan SIM for that number. You can’t port the other Spark number until you have the SIM.
It’s only your Kogan number that can renew straight away with the voucher code (I presume when you said existing plan that it was with Kogan?)
You just need to be able to port the Spark number before the other voucher expires at the end of Jan.

I am with Kogan for the second year, the speed is getting slower and slower.

    • I've got the $1 mighty mobile Sim in my phone at the moment and holy hell if that's slow I want to see fast. It cleared 900Mb/s recently.

  • I’m keen too

  • +2

Just a heaps up for people signing up for first time and would require the sim card. Recently, 2 of my mates signed up in last deal and the sim cards took almost more than 3 weeks to arrive. Luckily I had spare so they used it. So please factor this shipping time if you need sim cards.

  • Anyone want to share a medium combo ?

    • I will. Send me a private message

  • +4

Why hasn't this type of deal brought downward pressure on the bullshit that is mainstay telco offerings?

    • +1

Might just be that people don't like to pay upfront for a year in advance.

They'd rather pay double or more and pay monthly. Crazy to me, but meh.

      • To be fair, my vodafone prepay is 22$ a month for unlimited calls and texts, and 2gb of data which gets doubled for free to 4gb. So pretty comparable really, without having to deal with Kogan hassles.

        • +2

So you are comparing Vodafone at $264/yr with kogan at $125/yr. I see it at 50% discount. Agreed you pay upfront.

          • @ace310: Omg I commented on the bogof post and still forgot to calculate that its 2 for 1 🤣

    • +1

Because people who can't afford iPhones still want to buy iPhones.

  • is this deal available for current users?

    • +1

      Yes. Check T&C

The Unboxing Day Sale Buy One Get One Free Offer is valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers. Personal use only.

    • Both New & existing customers.

  • Happy to share with someone: Kogan Mobile Prepay Voucher Code: LARGE (365 Days | 15GB Per 30 Days) - Buy One Get One Free

    • Are you in Tauranga

      • No Auckland, are you keen?

        • I’m keen

          • @Vish: Also don’t need the sim, just after a voucher

  • How is the roaming to foreign countries with this? We are travelling to South (east) Asia countries early to mid next year. Any problems or even nightmares?

    • +1

I would get a local sim.
Kogan rates are expensive for roaming - https://www.koganmobile.co.nz/add-ons/international-roaming-…

    • It works fine, and is very easy to turn on and works basically instantly. Its very convenient to keep your own number and not have to play around with sims etc.

The price is debatable, sometimes the 11.90 works out well - other times it seems a bit expensive. Depends on what your doing and why - if your in a place for a couple of days for example its far better than having to get other sims etc. Its a shame they dont have weekly plans etc like others do. It works well in Asia - occasionally there are just missing countries (like I went to Dubai and the UAE is just not on the list, no option) so you just need to check. Vodafone charges $8 a day for roaming so on that benchmark its not badly priced.

    • I tried to use the Kogan roaming 3 day plan earlier this year in Australia and it didn’t work at all - got a refund later, but it was very stressful. Hopefully it works for you but would plan for back ups just in case.

    • My wife's Kogan roaming is $12/3 days compared to my Vodafone $8/day. I've found unfortunately we kinda need to roam when overseas at some point because inevitably some bank or 2FA system wants to send you a code at some point as they detect you've changed country.

  • +1

Brilliant, I've been waiting for this, my previous BOGOF 12 month plan expired a couple of weeks ago so I bought a month at their standard price which wasn't terrible.

  • Anyone in Tauranga want to go halves on a large

    • Hi. I'm in Rotorua. Do you want to go halves?

    • +1

Im in tga! Keen to share if youre still free too?

      • I'm also in Tauranga, but wanting to go halves in medium plan

        • +1

I think i need the big plan sorry!

        • Hi, I would like to split a medium plan. Just need a Voucher code as already have the SIM.

  • Damn, If I knew it I wouldn't have picked on the Black Friday. This is quite cheaper to share with someone else. Bummer

Ohhh nevermind, it's the same price :D

    • Hey I'm keen. Let me know in DM

      • have sent you a message :)

        • Sorry someone else responded within minutes and I got the medium!

  • +2

C'mon Kogan, where's the Christmas spirit, offer BOGOF on the Small plan as well!

  • +1

Hi, I tried again to Port my number over (from One NZ) yesterday morning.
This is the second SIM I have tried now (last time in November) and it is stuck again and won't port. Last time I was told about 5 times that it would definitely work, and have to wait 4 hours for the dashboard to refresh and then nothing happens. If Kogan can get this to work, I'll be keen on a Medium plan. I just need the Voucher - not the SIM. I've just been told by Kogan that I have to wait up to 24 hours! I don't know why this is so difficult.

    • +1

Did you get the porting confirmation sms on your old sim? And you need to reply "Yes" to that for the porting to be completed.

      • +1

No, haven't got a text this time around.
Last time (in Nov) I didn't reply within the 2 hour window so needed to re-Port but that was unsuccessful and no text arrived ever again. I even contacted One NZ but they couldn't do anything until Kogan sent the Port request.

In the meantime I got my Kogan account completely terminated so I could do a fresh start. Was hoping that I wouldn't miss the text this time but no text yet and it's been over 24 hours. They say it is stuck.

        • I'm also having trouble - tried on Tuesday night and still nothing. Have chatted them every day since and had three different and fairly unhelpful replies. Today they told me they cancelled the request from their end so I'd be able to try again - three hours later still on my dashboard as pending so I can't even make a new request. Pretty frustrating.

          • +1

@joshtnz: Yeah, I'm with you. Last time in November I made 6 attempts via Chat to get it sorted and each time they said that they will fix it and were so confident that resetting the Dashboard (which takes four hours!) will fix it but in my case, nothing worked. Beyond frustrating.

        • +1

Well, looked in my dashboard this morning and the porting request is gone. Tried to create a new porting request and it doesn't allow me to and I do not want a Kogan phone number.
So options - online chat with them again or would 2degrees be easier? Then I think I could get prepay $19 to start with (comes free bonus carryover of 7.5GB) which will last me ages. Then switch to a $10 monthly until I run low. Unfortunately 100mins /mth is not much for me (do use msg Apps when I can already) but need it for when you're on hold for half an hour dealing with some businesses!

    • +1

I also had issues porting my number but that was caused by Vodafone eSIM, tried many times didn't work, went to a Vodafone store and the staff instantly told me its the eSIM, put my number on a physical sim and the number ported over fine.

      • +1

Thanks, but in my case, I have a physical SIM

    • +1

I have also had a lot of trouble porting to Kogan in the past, I eventually just gave up and went back to skinny.

I've tried on two seperate occasions about a year apart. The first one was a total failure and I tried to get it to work with them for 2 months. I got the porting text, replied yes, everything.Eventually kogan refunded me.

2nd attempt was a bit better but still took over a month. But they fouled it up - ported my number to the old, failed account and couldn't apply the voucher as it'd been applied to the NEW account. ( I started a new account to avoid this crap!). Refunded after a month.

I also noticed something about kogan (while I had it working with my number but NOT my voucher!) - it was really slow AND coverage was spotty.Otago region.

Ported back to skinny - all done in an hour or so.

Kogan would be winning in NZ if they could simply DO THE BLOODY JOB PROPERLY! I know many people have had no trouble, but many have. A 60% success rate seems pretty crap.

We need serious competition for cell phone service in this country.

  • +1

Been enjoying this deal for 2 years hassle-free until recently. Facing issues with making calls, SMS, and data for the past 10 days. Kogan acknowledged the problem on their end, affecting others too. They assure a fix within 24 hrs daily, but no resolution yet. Customer service experiences very poor too – reached 2nd in their chat queue (no phone support available) but didn’t get through to someone in 25 mins. Oddly, a new chat without mentioning the issue jumped me to 1st. Using another provider temporarily now, burning through the Kogan savings. Works well most of the time, but doesn’t really seem reliable for work or important things, due to poor support if anything ever goes wrong

    • Yes, not having phone support makes it more difficult. I found that using live chats is like dealing with a Chat Bot and you wonder if they even read it properly. If it wasn't soooo much cheaper - I wouldn't be bothering (I have had my own issues as per the above post)

    • For live chat, I just do what the operators are doing and start 2 or 3 live chats at once with different companies I need to get in contact with.

For emails my strategy is patience, consistency and persistence. It's a marathon, not a race. Often times it's a test of stamina. I use generative ai to write the emails so I can send out loads without wasting my time.

My emails with 2 degrees this year start with RE: Re: Re: Re: due to the factually accurate and non-hyperbolic description of their support from others on here.
I often forget about the email I sent a month ago that they ignored and I have to send another one. I finally got it sorted out yesterday.

    • hey mate I am having issues recently too, are you able to receive 2 factor sms codes? that's my main issue at the moment just wanting to see if other people have the same problem.

      • +1

Sounds like a seperate issue to the one I had and knew about unfortunately, which was only affecting outgoing sms/calls and data

  • Any one in chch want to go halves either medium or large

    • Im sorted now

  • Oh no. Plan expires in ten days. Do I give my niece (who needs on too) a bonus and buy two large plans, or take the risk on the (seemingly pretty likely based on this and last year's specials) New Year's half price sale ….

    • +1

If you do find someone to share the offer, I would personally recommend you to take advantage of this offer.
My plan ran out as I didn’t notice and had no plans for almost 20 days, also I was hoping to get the offer launch by 18th or19th Dec considering last few years trends.
Today was kind of my last day of waiting and if the offer didn’t come through today I would have been forced to get a 35$ monthly plan.
There will probably be a new year plan but we can’t really know the exact date or 100% possibility and the prices wouldn’t change.
I wouldn’t take any risk next year onwards.

  • Also keen to go halves with someone on the medium. PM me :)
