How does it compare to something like this if you just want to use it as a line trimmer?

Works out at $201.50 with the vouchwr code and an extra set of blades

For me, I already run AEG so this is a no-brainer.

But in terms of this vs the Stihl:

AEG takes line, Stihl takes plastic blades. Line is available everywhere, plastic blades I presume you have to get Stihl ones. Never used plastic blades, but i don't how how they react when you don't cut perfect stick & rock free grass or try to use it for edging.

AEG has a removable and very readily available battery, Stihl is built in. When the battery goes flat you have to wait for it to charge with the Stihl. AEG, you just put a new battery in it (assuming you have more than 1)

AEG will charge the battery faster.

Those plastic blade type trimmers then to be entry level models that operate very much on cheap inkjet printer sales model or razor razorblade model , whereby the make money from you by selling you expensive consumables that fail often.

That Stihl model also isn't a brushless model on top of not having a separate battery, as ittakestime mentioned. Its styled like it inside the house appliance.

Hey team - how would this compare to https://www.bunnings.co.nz/ryobi-one-18v-25-30cm-4-0ah-cordl…?
Is it a no-brainer if I'm already on the Ryobi ecosystem?

    • +1

I have the Ryobi that you posted and it works well for edging and trimmer, but is definitely an "entry level" model. I havent used the AEG specifically but have used the similair style (DeWalt) model… the AEG looks better than the Ryobi for sure.

  • I got this Nordic cordless trimmer during the black friday sale a month ago. Seems to work pretty good.
    Not brushless though

I saw on reddit this model is $115 at bunnings christchurch airport
    https://ibb.co/grqFTLX

    • So would that mean we can price match?

      • +3

Bunnings price match excludes liquidation stock so might not work.

Can you share the post please cheers

    • $124?

That Dewalt hedge trimmer isn't bad at $199. I'm a few years off from having a hedge that needs trimming though and not in the Dewalt ecosystem. That 5.0ah battery retails for around $200 alone.

I have one of this brought it in boxing day sale for $249. I was very surprised by the power of the trimmer. Max 20mins for the 4ah battery on speed 2. I did buy another aeg drill set, with 2 set of batteries i did my lawns - medium size lawn

Surprised in a good way ? you reckon it will hack down those overgrown tall weeds ?

      • +1

I got one after this deal was posted and hot damn, this thing has got some power. Comparing it to the Dewalt one I've been using, the Dewalt seems like a kids toy.

I'm sure it would tackle some tall weeds, but it'll eat batteries doing it.

        • Might have to get myself one I think

        • +1

Thanks! safe to say it will be waaay better than my Orzito line trimmer with plastic blades.

ok I think ill get one.

Admittedly my test was my wet lawn which was about 8 inches at the time….. (I was eager to test it, okay?!)

The DeWalt I have for comparison: https://www.dewalt.co.nz/product/dcm561pbs-xe/18v-dewalt-bru…

      • Its powerful and it will take a bit to cut through thick patch and may drain the battery, you will het 20-25 minutes on speed 2 on the 4ah battery

  • It took a bit of effort to get one, there was stock online in Auckland, but I live in a different location. I tried to get it delivered from the Auckland store but I was getting an error. I did a click and collect, then called Bunnings customer service to pay the extra $7 courier charge.

    • That's very impressive! Well done!

    • I had the same issue. I selected click and collect for Botany Downs which is very far away for me, and then changed it to delivery on the website. Otherwise, if I had tried to get it delivered from my nearest bunning store it won't allow me to order from Botany Downs. I don't know what is the intended behaviour - but not user friendly at all.
