  • Is this good?

    • It's glyphosate like almost everything else.It works very well. Spray when there is no rain. Keep away from pets. Takes up to a week to notice since it working.
Careful not to get on footwear and then walk over your lawn.

Have to do some math on the glyphosate active ingredient ratios to get the value vs other brands.

$22.98 regular price for Number 8 Glyphosate 360 at Mitre10. Same active ingredient (glyphosate) that kills weeds and grasses. The Number 8 is also much more concentrated, making 100L of spray as opposed to 10L

    • Number 8 is not more concentrated - it’s using a weaker dose to make more spray.
Still same active ingredient in the Zero Rapid just using more chemical to get a faster knockdown.
The Zero Rapid uses 100ml/L to make 10L of spray.
      Number 8 uses 10ml/L so makes 100L

You could always up the concentration of the Number 8 brand.

It's hard to tell because there's no safety data sheet for the Number 8 so would need to go instore and check the bottle.

However, the active ingredient in the Yates is Glyphosate at a rate of 100g/L. Assuming the 360 in the Number 8's Glyphosate is 360g/L then it would suggest it is more concentrated.

        • It probably is 360 g/L as the smaller container does have pictures of the back where it lists it:
          https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/number-8-glyphosate-360-weedk…

          • @morepork: I used to sell the generic brands years ago so should have remembered that!

Like everything with a brand name like Yates you pay for the name. It might have some additional surfactants to help it stick but it’s pretty minor.
The generic glyphosates are just as good and cheaper.

            • @bigcheese: I just add some dish wash liquid into the mix….. It makes it stick pretty well!

Side note…. The number 8 version link on shows it makes 20 litres… Think that's a typo.

1kg of chlorine granules is $18.36 from mitre10, does same job as weedkiller. Or you can get 1L diesel to kill weeds if you dont plan to grow anything at that spot haha

I was in Bunnings looking at this($27 1L mix to 10L) and found there is another 1L super concentrate one beside it which is $62 and mix to 250L(https://www.bunnings.co.nz/yates-1l-zero-weedkiller-spray-su…), so, hmmmm…….

    • Who needs that much though. Plus you can get stronger (540g/L) and cheaper elsewhere.

      • Weeds mate, they always come back….always.

        • Not with proper ground cover plants and mulching

  • On a related note: - I do need some weed spray for grass lawn. What one should I buy?

Also - What was the consensus on this one ; good value for money?

    • Are you wanting to kill the grass off altogether or you have weeds in the grass you want to kill?
Glyphosate will kill what it touches so be careful not to get it on anything you want to keep.
It’s great for killing grass and has the benefit that once dead there is no residual chemical left in the soil so you can plant or resow straight away. You can spot spray but be careful.

If you have broadleaf weeds then glyphosate will often just knock them back but not kill them.
For these get a selective broadleaf weedkiller like Kiwicare Turfclean or Yates Turfix. This will target the broadleaf, sparing the grass.
