Netflix Monthly: Basic ₦2,900 (~ $3.29), Standard ₦3,600 (~ $4.08), Premium ₦4,400 (~ $5.00) @ Netflix Nigeria

430

This one is blowing up on OzBargain so thought it might be good to repost here. It is the cheapest Netflix available.
I currently still have my Netflix Turkey account working with gift cards but wanted to test this one out before I posted - AND IT WORKED!.
I figure if it gets cancelled then I've only lost $5 and the best part is no gift cards needed.

Full Credit to I Smell Pennies

  • In my case I didn't want to chance my existing Netflix account so used a completely new email address.
  • I used KeepSolid VPN from this deal as it has a Nigerian server.
  • I did not enter any phone number at signup. When it asked for a Nigerian phone number I simply used the back button a few times, exited and logged back in.
  • My Wise card did not work so I used a Revolut card which worked perfectly. I have not tested any other cards.
  • Rates charged are based on what I was charged ($5 exactly) for the Premium or Ultra HD subscription.
  • My account has a geo restriction on it (presumably 30 days) so currently can only watch with VPN turned on. However, I but expect that to come off after the 30 days and allow me to watch without a VPN. This does differ to the notes from I Smell Pennies who said a restriction did not apply. YMMV.

UPDATE: I have just logged into my account now no problems. No VPN needed and unrestricted viewing. Even though I needed a VPN when I signed up and it would not work without yesterday it has no problems today. Looks like the VPN is only a temporary requirement. Good news!

The following is a copy and paste apart from the comparison table where I have converted to New Zealand dollars.

Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions (Nigerian Edition)

Netflix has once again rolled out a 2nd price hike for Türkiye within 4 months. I said enough is enough, and decided to explore other avenues! The good thing is… no gift cards are involved. I did encounter some errors, but somehow managed to bypass them within minutes. The result? I managed to sign up to the world's cheapest Netflix (or second cheapest, idk lol) in less than 10 minutes, and for the record, it was my first time trying as well. That's insane in my books.

This guide is the latest updated guide I've made so far (WITH SCREENSHOTS!). Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read and show some love. Any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

  • Nigeria is the cheapest country in the world for Netflix. See plan prices below.
  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they keep increasing prices every few months.
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it one of the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Egypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • @Scrooge McDeal's post for Netflix Kenya is slightly cheaper than Netflix Turkey, however many members have had their memberships cancelled and payments refunded.

Available Plans:

Subscription Plan NGN Pricing (₦) Conversion (NZD) Pricing Official (NZD) Savings (NZD) % Saving
Basic ₦2,900 $3.29 $12.99 $9.70 75%
Standard ₦3,600 $4.08 $18.49 $14.41 78%
Premium ₦4,400 $5.00 $24.99 $19.99 80%

You can see all the features of the three tiered Netflix Nigeria plans here: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/24926/ng

**All prices in this guide are current as of 14 February 2024.
I used an exhange rate of $1 = ₦881.4499 which is the rate I was charged on my Revolut card.

Instructions

**Please read the following instructions carefully. Please review screenshots at each step if you are stuck.

  1. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Nigeria. I used Surfshark VPN (Shopback currently has 98% cashback)!

https://my.surfshark.com

  1. Open Netflix on a new tab (not being logged in), enter your email (a new one, preferredly) and press "get started" (see screenshot):

https://www.netflix.com/

  1. On the "Step 1 of 3" page, press "Next", then set a password. On the "Step 2 of 3" page, press "Next", then choose your desired membership plan, then press "Next". On the "Step 3 of 3" page, click "Credit or Debit Card" then enter your CC or Debit details (I used Suncorp Debit Card). Tick "I agree" then press "Start Membership". If you get a payment error, try a different Credit or Debit Card and try again.

  2. If the payment method is accepted, then the next page will be phone number verification (I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T GET A SCREENSHOT OF THIS PAGE AS I COULDN'T GET THE PAGE AGAIN AFTER). I entered a random number in from the PingMe app and it redirected me to the next page to enter the verification code. PingMe didn't send me a code and it was dinner time so what I did was back click on the browser to the previous page (the payment page). I entered the payment debit card again and it works as expected, bringing me to a new phone verification page (or so I thought). This page (after reading it carefully) actually said "Welcome to Netflix! You've started your membership and emailed the details to [email protected], with a mobile option to set up password recovery (just ignore this). I pressed "Next" and voila - I'm now on Netflix Nigeria baby!

You can probably use PingMe (similar to Turkey deal) and it will still work I think. I couldn't try as I managed to bypass the phone verification step as explained above, but if anyone wants to give it a try let me know.

  1. You're done! Enjoy your membership :)

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: New sign-ups to Netflix Nigeria (similar to Netflix Turkey) is subject to a local restriction lockout. This lockout period will last approximately 28-31 days after signing up. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch most shows and movies, but you must use a Nigerian VPN to do so (otherwise an error will pop up preventing you from watching anything). You can turn off the VPN after the show/movie has loaded for faster connection (may or may not work). After up to 31 days, this restriction will be removed and your Netflix account will behave no different to an Australian Netflix account. This minor hassle for a month is well worth the savings in the long term.

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Nigeria. They seem to only a few months after signing up, but once fixed, it usually does not happen again. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Nigerian VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Nigeria for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Nigeria phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Nigerian number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Nigerian phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Nigeria SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Nigeria (+234)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ directly above this question. If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything. Your Netflix account may automatically update to your new card details, due to a connection provided by Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc. See here and here and here for more details, thanks to @NitroJolt.

Q: How do I add Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: There are no Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards available.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After 30 days of signing up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Nigeria going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

  • Nice, will give this a try once the Turkish gift cards run out.

The Turkish prices were slowly creeping up XD

    • +6

I still have 6 months or so worth of gift cards with Turkey too but this price looks almost too good to be true so wanted to test it out.
It does seem strange saying 'too good to be true' and 'here's a deal from Nigeria' in the same sentence!

    • Heya, where can i buy turkish giftcards and will they allow me to use it for my sons turkish playstation account. Used it use my wise card but no longer can.

      • Netflix gift cards can be purchased at Turgame or at g2a.com

I have no idea for playstation accounts, this is soley for Netflix

  • Is there anything extra that needs to be done for VPN running on PC for watching netflix on google tv?
Or do i need to load VPN app on the google tv?

    • Vpn only required during sign up. Later you use it as normal Netflix login/app. No vpn required for watching

      • Still need VPN for first 30 days due to geo restriction.

        • Oh. Didn't knew that. Is that a new restrictions now?

          • +1

@ace310: Yes, I'm not sure when this started occurring, it has been the case for a least a couple of months.
I believe the same happens for Turkey new sign-ups too.

            • @bigcheese: So do you know how to sort it? Or just signup, sit there for 30 days not using it?

              • @Foodie: You can use it, but you need to use Nigeria VPN servers for the first 30 days when you do.

              • @Foodie: I’ve managed to watch it with the VPN connected, so it doesn’t stop you using it. Just means i can’t watch the NZ catalogue with it at the moment.
My card is still loaded against the account so will see in 30 days time if it debits again and the VPN requirement is removed.

                • @bigcheese: I don't think you can watch the NZ catalogue with it anyway? You're limited to whatever is on Netflix Nigeria.

                  • @kfr23: Should be no different to Netflix Turkey, which I currently have as well.
No VPN needed and full NZ catalogue.
The restriction is because of the VPN requirement at this stage.

                  • @kfr23: Netflix always defaults to what region you are connected to. Even if you download shows say in NZ, and then go to the US when you reconnect in the US and the show isnt available there it will region block you from watching your download.

                • @bigcheese: I mean, does the VPN affect all devices connected to the router?
Or do I need a VPN on the device that I'm watching netflix on?

              • +1

@Foodie: See my update in the post. Looks like VPN was only for yesterday as all restrictions are gone today.

  • Nord doesnt appear to have Nigerian servers - so thats annoying - the VPNs are going to be slammed with Netflix traffic for the first month

  • Wonder what the catalogue is like. My Turkish Amazon Prime is sorely lacking, tends have all the main stream movie/tv but lacking more obscure indie show.

    • +2

Not a big deal is it? It's only for the first month that you're stuck watching Netflix from whatever country you signed up with, after the first month is up you can turn off the VPN and start watching NZ Netflix.

      • Damn, I completely missed that…lol.

  • How do we buy Nigerian currency in revoult only showing a select few currencies however my verification is pending

    • No need to purchase the currency first.
I just let Revolut convert for me.

      • techinical difficulties resetting my pw now :/ payment went through though

        • +1

I used the one time code sent to email when I had log in issues. That worked and let me in.

  • It's cheap until it gets cancelled not long after.

    • Could always happen.
I figure for the price it’s worth a punt.

  • Anyone know any current free VPN's that connect to Nigeria ?>

    • +1

Did you grab the free 6 months from VPN Unlimited that was posted here before Xmas? https://www.cheapies.nz/node/44957 they have a server in Nigeria, I just used it last month to redeem some Xbox codes for the Nigerian store.

      • unfortunately i didnt - just tried to get it when this OG post was created but its finished :( - i think i found some free ones online 3 months via express vpn which i may try and hope they have nigeria on their list

    • I used VPN unlimited on iphone, signed up with apple and you get automatic 7 days free access.

      • Thanks boss - I will probably do the same as I have an iphone - Were you successful to create a netflix account via Nigeria from the steps above ?

        • +1

Yes but my wise and asb didn't work so applied for a Revolut card, uploaded ID and photo and got approved within 5 minutes.

After entering the Revolut card it asked for a Nigeria phone number, i did what OP did and signed out, then signed in again and it asked for credit card details again, entered the same Revolut card details and my account was created, Revolut deducted $4.08 and received email from Netflix

However i'm not sure about the geolock for the first month, my current NZ netflix expires in 3 weeks so i'll find out then.

  • -1

I do the same for Netlfix, Prime Video and Youtube Premium with my Indian credit card. it's dirt cheap when compared to NZ prices. I pay <25 dollars for YT premium, <30 dollars for Prime Video

    • How do you get Indian credit card?

  • +3

    Still overpriced imo 🤣

  • +1

Literally just fixed the turkey credit card issue few days ago. Now wondering if $5/pw ($60/yr) is worth the effort to create new email, new account, wait period, cancel existing account, fingers crossed Nigeria account hope it passes the time test like Turkey.

This is truly testing my cheapiesness

    • I couldn't get my turkey account work again so cancelled and restarted NZ account last month. Will give this a try once i have the Revolut card.

  • +1

Getting an Revolut card, wise and asb don't work

    • +1

Got my Revolut card approved with a few minutes, and account setup.

      • cheers - just waiting for it to be approved. Hopefully done in the next 30 minutes before bed time

    • Visa or MC?

  • Thanks OP, i still have a current NZ netflix plan so not going to login with the new account for a few weeks, how do you know your account is geo locked for 1 month? Does it say somewhere in your account?

    • +1

The 30 day geo lock is just a guess based on what Netflix had been doing previously with new accounts signed up outside their country of origin.
OP on OzBargain seems to have no such restriction but mine will not let me even log in without the vpn activated.
I will keep checking over the coming days to see if it changes.
I still have a plan through Turkey which has 6 months remaining (giftcards) so this was more of a ‘proof of concept’ test. I’m hopeful it will continue.

      • ok thanks

  • Good excuse to apply for the Revolut card now, anyone know any referral bonus available?

    • I had a quick look and looks like only can get 3 months of premium trail then $10 a month after that. Went with the free account and card.

      • I've been with Revolut for a while and have never seen any paid plans shown to me.
edit: Oh wow, I checked yesterday and they weren't there. Must have been added really recently.

        • Same! Darn metal is only 0.5% cashback. Better to stick with Dosh but I like that Revolut has Applepay.

  • Be buggered if I can get Revolut to accept a selfie for verification, I've tried close to 50 times and all of them have failed "please retake your photo something went wrong". I have no problems with face unlock on my phone or when I've had to do the same thing when signing up to other apps, but this, nothing I try works. I wonder if it's because I have quite a large grey beard that the app thinks it's some kind of face covering?

  • How about if we choose cheapest plan at sign up and then after 30 days (when geo restriction turned off), upgrade it to premium? Does it start counting geo restrictions again or what?

  • +2

I'm just about to update the post.

Good news - This morning I have no restriction at all.
I can watch freely without the need for a VPN

    • +1

That's good news. Couldn't see 30 day restrictions discussed on Reddit.

    • How long has it been?

      • I set up the account about 4pm yesterday (14th Feb).
Wouldn’t let me watch anything at all without the VPN yesterday but when I tried this morning it worked fine.
So for me it seemed to be about half a day. Could be an overnight thing or just not behaving for me initially.

Would be interested to hear anyone else’s experience. Was there a delay to access without VPN and if so how long?

        • Sometimes it could be to logout from all devices and wait for few minutes. But again, don't know the exact time period Netflix is enforcing.

  • When I try to create a new account it says "Sorry we are unable to complete the sign-up. Try again later. Any idea how to pass this?

    • All good. I signed up using NZ then logged with NG. Worked. Thanks team. :)

  • Does anyone know if this method works if PS+/Apple Music/Spotify are cheaper in Nigeria? Cheers

  • I cannot get approved with the Revolut card.. I am a nz citizen but they said they are having errors.. is there any other digital card that the cheapies community can recommend ?

    • Same here, rejected twice. Uploaded driver license + selfie photo + letter from Electro Commission for address proof. Think it's the selfie photo look a bit different from the driver license photo? Worst part is didn't even let me know what else I can do to get approved, just keep telling me verification failed.

      • Also having an issue with verifying. So frustrating! Any other cards out there?

    • Air NZ Airpoints One Smart MC card? I was using this for Tidal until that got switched off…

  • approved for Revolut in 10min and signed up to NG

    • +1

      Welcome to Nigeria

  • I've added Turkish Lira credits until June 2024. Will watch this space until then to see how the prices change.

  • Can anyone confirm if the Netflix account can be shared between more than one household? Thanks 😊

  • Apparently people over at OzB are getting their accounts cancelled. Is anyone else getting the same experience? I haven't used mine since signing up and still seems to be fine.

    • No problems with mine.

      • Have you shared it outside your household? and have you been using it without a VPN?

        • No VPN other than at setup.
Have acessed the account both at home and at work, so different IP addresses (and devices) and no issues with either.

    • I'm thinking it's going to be a matter of time before our Turkish accounts get cancelled.
If that happens, I'll probably have to get someone from my family in India to share their Jio Fiber Netflix account :'(

  • So Netflix are increasing their premium NZ plan to $27.99 per month from March. What a rip!

    • That’s expensive.
Makes ~ $5.00 not look too bad by comparison!

  • Thanks! I managed to get this to work!

  • Transferwise, BNZ and ASB all didn't work for me
Dosh pulled through and worked, no phone number asked for (previously subscribed plan) - $4.52nzd Premium

  • My Nigeria account is still working fine after seeing many Aussie had their account suspended.

  • hmm - just checked my account. Still active for me.. note I have not shared this with anyone yet outside of my household (only me here at the moment - but planning to share this to friends/family in the next few weeks) .. hoping this stays active

  • +1

Hopefully this remains as NZ netflix have just increased the pricing: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/netflix-confirms-price-h…

  • They increased price in Nigeria too. Only for standard and premium look like.

    Mobile: 1,600 NGN/month
    Basic: 2,900 NGN/month
    Standard: 4,000 NGN/month
    Premium: 5,000 NGN/month

Just signed up. Used Revoult. Used X-VPN on iPhone for 7 day trial. Worked a charm. Signed into my Smart TV and worked, however it does say "Top 10 movies in New Zealand today" so im concerned it might get cancelled ? Any idea?

  • I just tried to sign up with my SurfsharkVPN and Revolut (UK) then a Wise (NZ) card and got the error that something is wrong with payment on both, then used a bank credit card I have back in the UK which was accepted then onwards to mobile, as OP advised, I went back then re-entered the CC details and I now have a NF account in Nigeria. Not sure why Wise and Revolut were so tricky for me.

  • Just managed to sign up via Nigeria.

Used the free Tunneller chrome extension set to Nigeria.
Set up new netflix account using an additional fullstops within my normal gmail account.
Used an NZ issued Revolut card and all worked.

Manage to sign in on Apple TV (no VPN) following and all working. Cost $7.19 on the Revolut Card with the conversion for the Premium option.

  • +1

    Worked for me 24/4 also.

I used Hola Chrome Extension. As above, I created a new NF account with my Gmail and the '+' sign. ASB Visa Debit went through no problem. Pressed back on the mobile number screen and re-entered payment. Then it all went through. $6.77 for Premium.

    I hope this one lasts!

    • I have successfully activated Netflix Nigeria this morning using my ANZ NZ visa debit card. At 1st attempt it said something wrong with payment, but when I re-entered same card details, it worked. When it asked for mobile number, I pressed back button twice and I was shown Netflix movies/tv shows home page. this was all done via keep solid Nigeria VPN.

I haven't tried using Netflix without VPN yet. is it best to wait for couple of days before I start using it without VPN? How's your one going?

  • I was able to sign up but can't login again eventhough the password is correct. Anyone has the same issue?

It says incorrect password. However using VPN to Nigeria I can login with the said password.

  • hey guys, I have successfully activated Netflix Nigeria this morning using my ANZ NZ visa debit card.

    • I don't have a current Nigeria subscription (only did it to test before posting).
From experience and comments from others the first 24 hours are usually when any issues come up primarily around logging in/out and having to reset passwords etc.
This should come right by this time tomorrow and you should be able to watch without VPN as well.
Try it without the VPN now though - I think it was needed initially but only for a brief period.

      • thanks, will give it a try

    • I've made a new account 2 weeks ago and it's still working for now. My Revolut card transaction is processed (no longer pending) and I don't have to use VPN so far. Only need VPN on the first day.

      • Thanks, i will try without vpn after full one day from signing just to create the impression that i relocated from nigeria to New Zealand lol

      • My netflix membership closed by them yesterday

        • Mine still works, but perhaps not for long..

  • Signed up 4 days ago, got cancelled today 🥲 anyone else?

    • Mine got cancelled yesterday, worked fine since 10th may

      • Looks like it’s all over then.
        I’ll expire the deal.

        • Cheers mate, it served me well for good 2.5weeks, so thanks for the awesome deal.
