as always with these promos check pricespy.co.nz because cost isn't cost, it's their average cost with some stuff whacked on.

Great for store brand stuff though.

    • as always with these promos check pricespy.co.nz because cost isn't cost, it's their average cost with some stuff whacked on.

I suspect it will be their 'invoiced cost', with nothing 'whacked on', but I could always be wrong.

However, many of their suppliers will invoice at 100%, and give rebates (quarterly, annually, whatever), that brings the net cost down by a fairly significant amount. The invoiced cost could be what the store sees, with the rebate going to head office, and thus being invisible at a local level.

      • yup T&c's say

        'Average

        Administrative costs is pretty broad.

I know when I worked there that it was seldom better than farmlands / gold card / cscbg / nzmca discounts usually were.

But also items could be cheaper than what cost would indicate willy nilly. Always use pricespy for anything of value

        • Saying something when even as an employee you still checked against PriceSpy :->

          • @Alan6984: Quite honestly, I was an atrocious salesman!

But the reality of how the incentives were set there meant that I just wanted to sell you the TV, I didn't care if it had any profit in it for the store.

    • Yeah wanted a switch game and it still worked out more expensive then elsewhere somehow lol

Should always check the “returned/clearance” cabinets at the stores as well

I got a “REOLINK Duo 4K 180 degree Floodlight WiFi” for $130 yesterday (usually $389) was unused and returned because someone thought it required LAN

    • My cheapies senses are tingling…. is it fraud if you buy something with the intention of returning it so other cheapies get a deal? 🤔

  • Tried it with a couple of Samsung phone models I was interested in and no joy. Did work with a s23 fe but it's discounted cost was a joke compared to what it has been discounted to on pricespy.co.nz

Kinda hard to find anything cheaper than elsewhere, but here were a few:
    JBL Pulse 5 $286.24 vs $328
Bose QuietComfort SE Headphones $291.22 vs $349
Breville the Smart Dry Connect Dehumidifier $402.93 vs $479
Breville The Smart Dry 2-in-1 Dehumidifier $531.95 vs $559
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook $477.41 vs $549

    ( versus Pricespy price )

  • It shows "Invalid coupon code" for me?? Have I missed anything??

    • What item are you trying it on?

Why do these "deals" still exist?

It's a stupid waste of time to fool people to go in store or buy online thinking it's a good deal. I'm speaking of the average folk.

    Zzzzzzzzzz…

This is not an rant against the OP. It's against the likes of NL and JB who love doing these sales stunts that yield very little. Everyone gets disappointed.

    • I have honestly seen a few items that get a pretty big discount through these promotions, but they are rather rare. Here's an example that still works - the JBL Live Pro 2 airbuds are $181.99, using the F&F code brings them down to $149.41, a $32.58 discount. That's lower than anywhere else.

      • JBL products have lots of margin in them, It used to make me apprehensive about JBL products in general.

For example a standard csc gets those at $158. Still not as cheap, mind you.

    • No idea if it works for them but I've worked in two places that when these come up it gets posted or emailed about the entire company. From a marketing standpoint of all companies eligible for these sales do this it's aassove amount of marketing thos generates.

  • Tried on some white ware and it returned a “no applicable promotion” message, and no discount.

  • Picked up eneloops $19.48 for AA and AAAs, and miele vacuum bags for $24.97

  • This stacks on top of CSCBG discount, but only online and not in store
