I've found very few buyers last few times around. Seems like a dying platform now that Facebook Marketplace has taken off.

Buyers on Trade Me actually get back to you though, unlike Marketplace. "is this still available"?
It depends on what you are selling, even if the item is free they still waste your time.

@kfr23 totally get what you mean. Had so many no shows. Its made me stop advertising things for free. And so many Facebook marketplace users dont even read descriptions at all. Trademe despite fees have a far higher completion rate

    • On the other end of the spectrum, pretty much everything I've listed on TM over the last year or so has sold first time.

    • if you have the skill to vet buyers before selling (check FB account creation date, posts etc) i've found facebook way more successful/cheaper than trademe. Pretty easy to weed out the tyre kickers

      • Doesn't mean anything when a lot seem to use stolen accounts

    • Yeah I get single figures these days for views at auction close and keep relisting until I forget.
I have never bothered with the upsell gallery methods etc.

    • Depends what you have and what you're asking, buyers can sniff out crap like low start/high reserve quickly and will steer clear. I've never had an issue selling through the platform - a few times it took me longer to make a listing than it did for its item to sell.

      • Agree. Just find it very drop shipping and commercial heavy now and with a lower buyer base than I’ve experienced in years gone by.

        • These free days are quite regular now, so they must be feeling it. I still rather sell there due to the structures in place like Ping.

Just have a new idea. Wonder if we can get BidBud automatic relist to pause and resume when promotions like this come along. Since BidBud is able to automatic relist 999 times, I'm sure the backend can add a check for this and optimize the relist on days that would give you 100% off.

    • Ohhh now we're talking!

  • Limited of 100 listings applies

Anyone find their limit of listing is 50??

    • For address verified members, the first 50 listings are free; and a 10c fee applies to each additional listing. Not sure about the upper limit as I have never listed more than 80 items.

  • So probably should unlist all my stuff a repost on Sunday…. Right ?

Here's my hack if you don't have time on Sunday to list everything.
Make the listing anyway with no photos and very few details (just name and price). Next day when you have time, come back and edit auction and add the rest of details. Did this a few times recently and managed to sell items no problem.

If you've got time tomorrow or Saturday you could create the listings in myproducts but not activate them until Sunday.

This is what I do and then I never get around to finishing the listing… my old Dyson remains unsold

    • Just make and schedule a listing with Bidbud?

  • Damn I listed my car a few days ago, paid $100 or so and now it's free! Anyone know if I can withdraw the listing and get a refund on the listing fee? Lol

    • Can always ask thier chat

    • Doubt it. On the plus side it's $100 well spent as the eyes on trademe are huge. I've never had to relist a car on there, always sold first try.

  • Hi, I'm trying to list my car but it comes up as listing fee will be 189.00

I have tried multiple times, is this expected?

With the terms above, that is not mentioned under motors, does it mean that listing fee does apply, only success fee is free?

    • "Applies to used car and motorbike listings on a basic listing type only."

Are you trying to list it standard or premium maybe?

      • No I chose basic

      • This is what is written on the final page

Duration: Closes 4:00 PM, Sun 7 Apr 2024. Free to relist until 12:00 AM, Sun 23 Jun 2024
        Summary
        Listing fee
        $189.00
        Total fees to pay
        $189.00
Your Trade Me balance before fees are deducted
        $4.26

And then there is a button to start my listing

      • Just tried same thing on friends phone and on theirs it shows zero fees… 🤔 Just my phone and my account.

I haven't sold any cars this year lol

        • Very weird!

  • So a sunday is very strange, never seen it on this day before.
    You think sales have dropped?.

    • Could be because everyone keeps relisting their stuff from many Saturdays ago so they all roll off on Saturday. Some will just relist again without thinking about free Sunday.

Or maybe they're just mixing it up a little as everyone had cottoned on to their Saturday specials.

  • Does anyone know if editing a listing will result in having to pay a success fee?

    • Good question, I don't think editing is actually counted as relisting.

I might question them on this because I want to change the end date of one auction and make it longer and wonder if they will count as a relist because I am extending out past that week.
