Thanks this is a great deal! Ordered one myself

  • Just check it will fit your door before ordering. I bought one last time it was on offer (together with the keypad and WiFi bridge) but when I finally got a locksmith out he said it had magnets that needed to touch and my door frame wasn’t suitable…

    • +1

The magnets are necessary for the Wi-Fi bridge to indicate the door has been open or closed for remote notifications on your app and not necessary for a basic Bluetooth set up. This particula door lock starts to get a bit expensive when you include the keypad which is necessary otherwise you'll have to use the key fob or use Bluetooth I have the previous special like you with the keypad Wi-Fi bridge included, they're bit of a old-fashioned cumbersome design compared to the new models.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Looks like a 10mm or so blind hole is needed in the door frame to install the magnet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yRAOKVliGY

  • Anyone with experience installing these know if it could work on a door like this?

I've checked the thickness which is within the threshold, but I'm just worried that the fitment in all other respects won't work for these smart locks…

    • +1

Definitely would not work, you need a narrow type digital door lock for aluminium joinery. https://www.knkhardware.co.nz/brands/view/e-lok

      • +1

I'm not sure what you'd put there, you've got the glass in the way there so all digital locks will be too tall for it.

        • +2

Yeah, I figured that this door would be a challenge. I don't like it much anyway so may just end up replacing the door specifically so I can fit a lock somewhere down the line.

Time to keep an eye out on door cheapies posts! :P

@535: And when you end up buying a door that doesn't fit your house, Wait on Cheapie post to buy a house that fits your door. 😄

      • Damn, thanks for the clarification. I figured that would likely be the case.

  • Thanks, Ordered one too. Better fit my new aluminum door with just me installing it!

Got my vote being a bargain from a reputable brand.

But I'm struggling to see how this would work with only Bluetooth an entrance lock with several family members and lots of foot traffic.

In my experience a digital lock needs the following:
    * Thumbprint reader
    * Pin pad to override when you have wet/dirty hands
    * Card reader - add card to your car keys - beats entering pin
    * Mechanical unlock if all else fails
Like this one https://www.shopyalehome.co.nz/aanz-b2c-ydm7220-nz. (The coupon does not work though)

You can get a digital lock with all this from Ali for 30% less. I've been using one for a few months now. Thumbprint reader is the weakest feature. Kids have no problem but only 80% hit rate for me.

    • Thats why i have both! I have the 7220 with finger print at the front door and the entrance lock for the middle door from garage. 7220 is seriously amazing.

How is the battery life on this?

Happy to help anyone in Auckland with lock issues and queries. I fit them regularly.
Not sure if I can post that here, but happy to help anyone.

    • Good to know… i found it hard to get any of the "big name" locksmiths to install as they wanted you to buy the gear from them…

      • +1

Nah I can help with most stuff. It's all easy when you know how, and how much you want to spend…

    • Hi Lewynz - would you be able to let me know if we can replace this with our current Schlage S-6000? I'm a bit nervous removing my existing one if this one is not going to fit lol

      • Unfortunately not easily. Anything is possible when you know how, and are willing to spend the money for time etc. But, after a brief look, it appears your existing lock is a larger lock body than this one, so I don't think it would work as a simple swap out.

If you wanted to dicsuss some options for what could work feel free to email me at [email protected]

        • hi Lewynz - Looking at the template, my existing 2 locks are already in place, and are 150mm apart whereas the template shows only 64mm, would this lock suit ?

someone recommended that "Schlage Ease Smart Entry Lock Black with C5 Cylinder for example is a very simple lock to fit. Bluetooth and has a keypad for $255."
          what would you recommend ?

          • @Joe: I have one of these and yes they are simple to fit but remember none of these types of smart locks are very secure and I would not recommend them as a front or back door for security because they only have a spring bolt lock as opposed to a deadbolt which has a fixed bolt mechanically moves into the mortise . The Eufy smart lock has a mechanical Bolt like a deadbolt. https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/eufy-security-smart-lock-tou…. The more secure type which are expensive have a deadbolt +2 top and bottom door mechanically initiated by the door handle and the handle is disengaged by the smart lock.

            • @pdevonporf: Thanks, I better keep existing double locks. much safer than a new gadget that looks modern

              • @Joe: Yes we had somebody break into our house but we have aluminium doors with double deadbolt. They tried to Jemmy the back door open with no success but managed to pry the window latch off in the laundry fortunately the alarm went off and they must've been running around like scolded cats and went back to where they came from. Both deadbolt doors front and rear inside had their handles bent right round as they tried to force their way out. All our windows have security latches on them except the laundry.

    • Heya Lewynz - I live in a small apartment complex… if i should you the door - do you think you could see if its possible to add this onto my existing door ?

    • hi Please message me , I have some work if you are interested

    • Yep, that was a good deal. Came with the Wi-Fi bridge, keypad included.

The problem with this lock is there is quite a job. to fit it. It requires a reasonable amount of skill to drill extra holes straight, to line everything up and would be useful if you had a jig as per instructions, other models are just basically retrofit and only require the four security bolts to be fitted through the door. The Schlage Ease Smart Entry Lock Black with C5 Cylinder for example is a very simple lock to fit. Bluetooth and has a keypad for $255.

  • Read a review where the guy said he could use aby rfid card, like bus passes and the such on it.

Is it a case of programming the lock to recognise the cards?

    • I have a different Yale lock (3109+) and have programmed it to unlock using my son's bus card. It's a similar procedure to adding a new code, but instead of entering a new code you tap the card on the lock to learn it.

      • +1

We have a 3109a, is your touchpad all scratched up? We dont wear any jewellery on our hands - an somehow its munted!

        • Nope, our touch pad still looks nice.

If I look very carefully there is a light scratch right in the centre (over the card logo), but I hadn't even noticed it was there until now

        • Same here. 4 or 5 years, no jewlery. Neigbours did the same a year ago. Pity this special isnt on that or the one above it. Id like reliable fingerprint and ability to unlock door in real time.

      • Was that an AT hop or something else like a Bee card?

    check the template here

not gonna fit on my door (2 existing locks)

if you want something with a keypad and fingerprint check out "Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch" on Amazon, USD188 shipped for non wifi version, USD 280 for wifi version - however some comment saying the apps are geo locked…

    • Thanks, my existing are 150mm apart. would you fit this alongside the existing ?

      • hard pass, 150 mm apart assuming from centre of existing holes, 54 mm each (existing hole), 204 mm in total between outer edges, the plate won't cover them completely. worse if 150 mm between 2 existing locks (inner edges)

  • I have the 3102 with a failing keypad after 5 years, pity this special doesnt work for 7220 or id upgrade.
