$0 Fibre Connection Fee (Usually $29.50, No Contract Required, Plans from $59.90/Month) @ Hotshot (New Customers)

20
BREAKFREE

I just renewed the fibre at my property and was offered the coupon code BREAKFREE by the website chatbot which waived the $29.50 connection fee. For anyone else renewing, I thought it would be useful to put this here.

Hotshot only offers Fibre Broadband so anything below that (ADSL/VDSL for instance) won't work.

50 Mbps - $59.90/Month
300 Mbps - $74.90/Month
950 Mpbps - $84.90/Month

Out of interest, what connection fee are you referring to?

Whenever I have re-done our fibre connection, I have never paid a 'connection fee', and usually I have been given a credit ($200 minimum I think, and up to about $600 once) for signing up for a 12 month contract.

The only time I might expect a 'connection fee' would be if there was no ONT installed at the property, and the fibre had to be blown in from the roadside.

Maybe I am missing something though?

Fake fee made up by a company that will probably vanish in a few years? Why go with Hotshot? Why not 2degrees, or any other provider that's been around for a while?

      • So in my case, I had a 25 month free internet bundle (300/300mbps) with Slingshot which expired this week. Someone suggested Hotshot to me a while ago and thought it would be worth a go.

The connection fee is inevitably made up, just like any admin fee or handling fee imposed on people. Certainly though, as they're open-ended and without requiring a contract, if they do end up folding, I'd move to one of the more well established ISP. Happy to try for now though!

        • So why not go with someone reputable for much less? considering you can get 200-300 cashback or 3-4months free deal on 12 months which can bring down your monthly cost.

I don't see any benefit of getting $30 free with no added benefit what so ever.

          • @ace310: Earlier this year, Slingshot were offering $89.95 per month (950 Mbps) with, I think, $200 account credit if you were coming off contract with them, and signed for another 12 months - maybe even better if you were a 'new' customer.

That makes it effectively about $73.28 per month (for 950 Mbps).

No idea what they might offer today, and I have heard (maybe on this site) it can vary in terms of the approach you take, but that is hearsay.

            • @Alan6984: That's basically what we got with Orcon, though they are both owned by 2degrees so that might explain why

            • @Alan6984: Yes definitely some good deals when contracting.. but for those who need short term (all those leaving for AU! Haha) this one is my go to.

The chat bot offers the promo code even before asking. (a bit sus)

Kia ora, I'm here to help. Oh hey!
We have a fire promo code for new customers!
Would you like to have free connection?

  • I'm with them on 50mbps plan in Auckland CBD no complaints (2 separate multi person zoom calls at once, or downloads). I do like their easy sign up in between taking deals from big players!
