I'm guessing that you might need to be taking card fees into account as well though?

Doesn't mean it isn't a good deal, but might mitigate it.

Looks like the account fee is $20 each 6 months for the basic card, and $40 for the platnium.

      • Definitely appears to be a good deal then!

      • spend $500 or more on eligible purchases

what is an eligible/ non eligible purchase?

what is an eligible/ non eligible purchase?

I would imagine it excludes, for example, anything that is regarded as a cash advance, or a balance transfer from another card.

Might be other things too, but generally a normal purchase of goods or services would be eligible.

If you want to be sure about something, I would contact ASB and ask about that specific thing.

During the past few months, there's a really big push to Everyday Rewards such as the prezzee one, the 20 off and others I can't recall on the top of my head. It feels like it forces the consumer to shop more on Woolworths which I don't do anymore (since it's getting expensive) unless it's a very good deal.

Is Everyday Rewards worth spending money to? Is it worth shopping at Woolworths still? Might be a separate forum sorry.

I just shop the specials at Countdown (and NW, Mad Butcher, Fruit World etc etc) and do the rest at PNS - that way you generally get the best prices possible. I take account of WW Everyday Rewards Boosts when comparing prices, but not many of them stack up in my experience (at least not for items we would buy).

My approach is just to pop in whenever I am going past, and if I have the time spare (running early for a meeting for example). That way, I don't spend any extra on petrol (apart from within the carpark!), and there is no real time cost. However, I would go past multiple of each of those different stores almost every day, whereas not everyone lives and works so close to so many options.

I've spent around $800 for work in Countdown/Woolworth, not even close on getting the $15 voucher. I'm pretty sure the Onecard scheme before would have net me a couple of $15 vouchers or sweet xc/ltr.

I'd say, unless its on special in Woolworth or you can't get it anywhere else, avoid.

      • You need to spend $2000 to get a $15 voucher. Every dollar gives you one point, 2000 points can be redeemed for a $15 voucher.

        • I know. Pretty sure Onecard scheme before don't need to spend that much to get $15 voucher.

Just saying how bad it is their "loyalty reward" is now.

I'm fairly sure it is exactly the same reward rate as the OneCard scheme that was in place at the start of this year.

            • @Alan6984: Ah you're right.

Digging through my email found this statement:

You'll earn 1 Onecard point for every whole $10 you spend in-store or online at Countdown, on qualifying goods and services. Once you've earned 200 points, a $15 Onecard rewards voucher will be sent to you.

I'm pretty sure that it was easier before though. Must be the bonus onecard points before

I think you'll find it was $1 rather than $10, and you needed 2,000 points.

Maybe the email is really old though, and it was different way back - I can't recall from many years ago :-)

        The old OneCard scheme would have given you the same. $800 = 800 OneCard Points = 800/2000 x $15 = $6.

The earn rate was, and still is, $2,000 for $15 so 0.0075 or 0.75%.

    • countdown only for beer and wine specials.

  • I have skipped the duopoly except for milk, bread and occasional snacks. Rest is from Costco. Lower prices and better quality!

Does it actually work out cheaper for every day grocery shopping? I've read otherwise and I'm interested to hear your views

      • Unless you can buy bulk (high upfront cost) and store them (freezer/pantry space), it won't be cheaper. Lots of non-Foodstuff/Woolworth items too but bulk items are cheaper. I find the fresh produce is generally more expensive apart from few items (e.g. baby spinach, shallots, banana) and sometimes paknsave is cheaper when on specials.

Ginger is only $5 at Costco vs $18 at Woolworths.

    • +2

I don't believe Costco is cheaper compare to Pak n Save and you are spending more buying bulk, i only buy things i can't find elsewhere at Costco.

      • +1

This is also our experience. People tend to get caught up in the hype and "feel" like they are getting a bargain buying in bulk when (in our experience) its often not the case at all. Our Costco membership is expiring, with no view to renew unless there is a specific need.

  • "spend $500 within the first 3 statement periods" does that mean you can spend $167 on each statemetnt or one $500 payment?

    • Either the spend just has to be wothin 3 months

    • "spend $500 within the first 3 statement periods" does that mean you can spend $167 on each statemetnt or one $500 payment?

You just have to spend at least $500 cumulatively over the first three statement periods. Could be all in one, split across all three, two only, many transactions, or one transaction.

  • So I can cancel my ASB credit card and reapply for the free points?

    • Offer is not available for customers who hold or have held the respective ASB rewards credit card account in the past 12 months, transfers from an existing ASB credit card, or in combination with any other offers.

      • +2

I believe "respective" credit card is referring to platinum vs standard. If I cancel my platinum, and re-apply for a standard credit card, I should technically be allowed to grab the promo. I'll try it lol

    • You'd have to go through a full application with no guarantee of being approved.

      • Nope. I did it all online. I already have a regular ASB everyday account though, so maybe could be that?

        • i got the notice on ASB app but no one ever called me to ask for payslip etc. conditionally approved, this was a week ago, i think i should call them tomorrow
