I think there was a similar promotion from trademe 3-4 weeks ago?.. I have noticed the frequency of these occuring.

Yeah, but the last one was better (didn't have to be $1 reserve) https://www.cheapies.nz/node/46507

      • it'll happen near the end of the month most likely, then seem to run on a random 4-8weeks cycle

  • yes! been waiting for this

$1 reserves are really dangerous in this economy. I did a bunch last time and stuff that was worth hundreds each sold for between $5 and $10. It was a bit of a gut punch. They all had good photos, descriptions, titles etc, it wasn't my first rodeo. I've also noticed over the last 6 months that stuff is selling cheaper and cheaper all the time. With my business people are almost exclusively paying via afterpay now, people just have no money right now. List at your own risk…

Yeah I will never do a $1 reserve on anything with value for this reason. I would rather sit on something for months for the right person to come along than risk it going for far below what it's worth - $20 in fees is worth more than the risk of it selling $50 below what it should go for.

Just sold an iphone SE2020 2 weeks ago. I'd been listing it for like $280 during fees free and on market place but no one bought it. Then someone hit buy now on it at $320 and I paid $25 in fees. Sometimes the right person just isn't looking at the right time and the vultures are circling waiting until they get thrown a bone thinking someone just needs to get rid of it.

Had this happen so often, people don't but during the lower priced fee free week, and it's sold at the higher price the following week.

Lots of competition during fees free week, pushes prices down.

Wow. That's a dangerous game kfr23. Not only can you get a warning from Trade Me it royally pisses off buyers. You would be happy if you were bidding on something and the seller withdrew it because you bid on it?

yea we are cheapies, not POS

    • Yes, I have noticed a marked increase in buyers who have been slow to pay or don't on Trademe over the last few months. You end up wasting a fair bit of time bugging them and/or going through the process of getting selling fees back. I think TM has lost a lot of trade to Marketplace (which of course is a magnet for timewasters, I've blocked a huge number). I hardly buy anything on Trademe myself these days.

Really frustrating when people list stuff for $1 with no intention of following through! Surprised cheapies would do that to other bargain hunters..

Ive sold a few things that couldve definitely got more for, but ive also won a few things in the same way!

    • Probably found it cheaper on FB marketplace. And same person would have contacted 3 different sellers they will pickup and pay for item, only to show up at just one place lol typical

Yes, that is why I never do $1 auctions. It is always a risk. Trademe shouldn't really allow people to withdraw except for very good reason.
