Standing Desk Recommendation

Can anyone recommend me any good and affordable standing desk please? I don't need a big desk so only for two screens with a laptop. 1.2 or 1.4m length is good enough for me.

I came across these two options which are cheaper than $600. Hoping for any reviews from anyone

1)
https://www.powercore.nz/product-page/powercore-laptop-desk-…

This one is recommended by another cheapie from an older thread and came with 10 years warranty

2) https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/DSKLCK118WN/Loctek-Home--Of…

This one is $100 cheaper than the option above but only comes with 3 tears warranty. I love the USB charging and little drawer too.

Thanks

ordered from deskbird recently, will update when it arrives :)

Looking for electronic, wind up or fixed OP?

    • Electronic please. Yes deskbird showed up on my search result a lot too, keen to find out what do you think about it :)

      • Fwiw I'm on preorder because their small size's legs were bigger than the desktop and they've got a new one in the works and mine has to go in a place with doors!

        I feel… Old… Preordering furniture

    • I've had a 1.8m deskbird dual motor since 2019, use it every day and its been amazing and faultless. Highly recommend them! Got a laptop, 27" 4k and a 27" 1440p vertical both on monitor arms and works great.

Check your local Warehouse Stationery for clearance sales.
Workspace Height Adjustable Home Office Desk is for $265.97 at South City (Christchurch), looks exactly same as Loctek Home & Office All-in-One Standing Desk Tempered Glass Black

    • Oh wow thanks you! I just edited my post to include the two products that I've shortlisted and this one is one of them!

Keep in mind the glass top ones can't use monitor arms so you'd need to have your monitors on their stands. I'd recommend going wood top and getting a monitor arm for a cleaner set up overall.

We got a warehouse stationary one for a real good price a couple of years back and it goes the job. No thrills like apps or memory for preset heights but works like it needs to with three monitors and a laptop on it.

I got this one, but different size https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/shop/peripherals/office-fur…

Make sure you get the correct size for your area.

It goes up and down at a good speed, is stable, i like the wood look. Goes up to a nice height. Im 1.8 + treadmill, and its good.

I have same one from a deal posted sometime back. I have 1.8m and it is really solid. Best part is the frame/base is strong and heavy so it doesn't woggle like few other cheap ones do. It doesn't woggle even at max height which is so nice.

Make sure the frame is sturdy and legs are wide. That really helps with the woggle.

TSB Living has a decent range price-wise, I was about to buy one and found the exact frame they buying from Lumi on Alibaba. Unfortunately they had no display models so I wasn't really comfortable buying and decided to increase my budget.

I found a lot of desks use the same OEM manufacturer for the frame & electronics, and you generally can figure that out fairly easily.

I ended up going for the Loctek ET223. Loctek manufacturers the frames & electronics for FlexiSpot, which is very popular in the U.S.

The reason I went for this one is the three-stage leg design. It supposedly means the frame is more rigid at maximum height. I haven't tried other standing desks but when it's at it's max height (~130cm), there is very minimal wobble. The 125kg max weight rating is a plus too if you need to physically stand on the desk (although I wouldn't risk that).

It was totally worth it to go standing, even if i'd have gone for a cheaper desk the flexibility to sit/stand or even change height for non-computer work on the desk is something I didn't know I needed.

Dual Motor ones are much more reliable and a lot quieter.

Keep an eye on TradeMe or Marketplace - I picked up a good standing desk frame for under $200 a few months back, and there tend to be a reasonable number around that price point

The one I got is a Locktek 1.8m x 80cm from PBTech, but they don't sell it anymore. It's a very good and sturdy desk. I would recommend going for a bigger desk, as a small desk means you have limited space and you won't be able to expand later on when you want to. For example, if you want to have 3 monitors on the desk, while having bluetooth bookshelf speakers and a microphone with boom-arm etc, then you'll have no space at all. With the amount of equipment I have, my desk is the perfect size.

    • I never could make 3 monitors work. I absolutely swear by having at least one vertical monitor though. I had, for the longest time, a 1920x1200, so slightly 'taller' monitor as a vertical monitor and it was brilliant and I ended up using the 4k 27" lg monitor I had as secondary.

It just… Makes sense for writing code or referencing stuff

      • I have a monitor in vertical position as well, along with a few other ultra-wides. I prefer having one "static" app on one screen so I can easily get a glance of what's going on, without having to switch constantly. It just makes me work way more efficiently and having to deal with less alt-tab, etc.

      • At work I had triple 22 inch 1080p monitors and at home have a 29 inch 1080p ultrawides flanked by a pair of 24 inch 16:9 (one vertical one horizontal) which I liked. Work redid our set up and now have a dual 32 inch 4k arrangement there which if I was buying for home use now I'd seriously consider copying. The vertical space in the software we use makes life much easier and now what used to take a full screen runs better docked on one side of one of the screens as it's the same width we used to have with double the height in a slightly smaller size.

        • I use those software too. DisplayFusion, Monitor Profile Switcher, FancyZones (from PowerToys), etc. I can create virtual monitor splits with DisplayFusion, among several other cool things like automatic app placement on a specific monitor, with custom rules and functions.

I still much prefer having an actual screen than using software though. I combine both situations depending on what I'm doing. I even have a portable 16' 2.5K monitor and it's so thin and light that I can just take it to work with me, but I don't even do that coz I'm lazy and don't want the extra weight in my bag. I just buy 2 sets of everything and keep it at work in my locker.

I purchased two standing desk recently, a deskbird and one from UNO furniture with their evolve series. Both were very comparable dual motor standing desk. Quality wise, I think both were extremely similar and on par. Deskbird has pre-drilled holes and more assembled components with the same size packaging, so it's a bit faster to assemble while the evolve requires you to drill your own screws. The deskbird unit seemed slightly better in the way they mount the metal components but they came with exactly the amount of screws needed with no spares. I stripped one screw accidentally, but luckily, the evolve desk did come with spare screws of the same size. The weird thing about the evolve desk was the instructions weren't very clear in some parts and it came with a bunch of things like rubber washers that weren't actually needed as part of the assembly. Otherwise, both performed identical in terms of performance and has the same settable heights. Only thing was deskbird came with a usb port for charging while the evolve did not.

I have the "Evo Basic" standing desk with dual motors, which I purchased from this deal: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/32426.

As @internetwork pointed out, many standing desks share the same frame manufacturer. Once I realised this, I opted for the cheapest option.

They also offer a single motor version, but I don't have any experience with that model.

Hey, if you're after the 'budget' one - check iFurniture. My previous post here: https://www.cheapies.nz/node/42206

Using MATRIX 160 (https://ifurniture.co.nz/matrix-160-l-shape-height-adjustabl…) for around a year now with 2 monitors (24'), heavy wooden stand and some small stuff on it.
So far it's looking good for me, it takes slightly longer for the motor to stand the desk up, but no biggie for me. For that price (got it for around 250 on sale) - I def like it.
My room has thick carpet, so the table doesn't wobble.

Purchased a Deskbird standing desk recently. I had awesome customer service! I had asked for more photos of the desks with natural lighting, with some accessories on the desks etc., and they were happy to oblige. Their customer service responses were very quick, pricing was reasonable.

I am very happy with the build quality of the desk. They also claim to provide a 10 year warranty + refund between price you pay for and some discount price they may put up (within 100 days).

    • It's the same experience for me, I've had my DeskBird for over 5 years now and it's been amazing. That along with a decent chair is the best investment for WFH.
