MG have just announced 10 year / 250,000km warranty on all cars

    • -3

You'll need it with how often things will go wrong. The build quality on these is frightening. I've seen so many that within 4 years are needing a repair cert for things like structural rust…

      • Yeah I wouldn't buy an MG, even with this warranty

    • Should note the previous warranty was 7 years, unlimited Km's.

So as long as you do under 35,000 km a year, you are better off with the new warranty.

  • Does it need to be serviced by MG for the warranty to remain valid?

    • -1

No but it must be serviced according to their schedule, with OE quality parts, and recorded in the service log book. That won't be cheap no matter where you go.

      • Yeah we have to have yearly service on our model (zs ev mk1) to maintain the warranty. It's a real have as they (local mg dealer) charge $330 on average to do sweet bugger all. Later models only require service every 2 years.

  • Is there any 7 seater version they have got?

    • The only 7 seater I know is Kia EV9 in NZ.

    • MG's NZ lineup are all 5 seaters at the moment.

But if you include other SAIC brands, there is the Mifa9 which is a 7 seater.

If you want a 7 seat EV, there are a few options:

      Used only: e-NV200, Model X

New / Used: EQB, EV9, Vito eTourer, EQS

Could use green loans from banks if you have a home loan for 0% or 1% depending on the bank.

      • With ANZ, it's only three years @1%.

Considering the glut of Chinese EVs in the domestic market, they should provide cheap credit.

        • According to the International Energy Agency's forecast, the global demand for new energy vehicles will reach 45 million by 2030, which is about three times the global sales in 2023, indicating a huge demand potential. The capacity utilization rate of new energy vehicles in China is around 80%, with some large new energy vehicle companies exceeding 100% utilization. The claim of overcapacity is just another lie targeting China. In fact, traditional fuel vehicles may face overcapacity.

          • @lyk2117256: Businesses need free cash flows to stay in business, not 2030 sales forecasts.

            • @hsran: From 2020 to 2023, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China (including passenger cars and commercial vehicles) rose from 5.4% to 31.6%. It's expected to approach 40% in 2024. To achieve carbon neutrality, the share of electric vehicles in China's passenger car sector may exceed 80%. The production capacity utilization has already reached 80%, and to meet both domestic and international demand, China will continue to expand its production capacity.

  • Any PHEV deals for small-mid size SUV?

    • Niro PHEV Light discounted from $55,690 + ORC to $45,690 + ORC.

      • Niro is a hatchback.
You can get a Hyundai Tuscon Phev for about $50k right now as a facelift model is coming out.

        • The lines are between Hatchback, Wagon & SUV are very blurry these days. Generally everything with (slightly) elevated ground clearance, a 2 box body style gets called an SUV (especially if they have some black plastic trim around the wheels & near the bottom.

The Niro is marketed by Kia as a "Crossover" and won best in class the AA / Driven Best in Class 2023 in the Small SUV category.

That said the Tucson PHEV is a crazy deal at the moment>

          $84k -> $50k on the base trim.

  • How much is the ORC these days for EVs?
