  • I believe that's a very good price - I haven't seen below 14c per each tablet for some time now - at least a year I think.

It's possible there is either a limit of two, or that I just bought the last two online. I tried for three initially, but it kept resetting the quantity to two - not sure why, as it did not say.

  • That's an extraordinarily good price.

  • and it's SoldOut,

  • Only 22 in stock for the first, almost none for the second, from my testing.

Are there benefits to using the tablets instead of the powder? Because according to my calculations, the powder appears to be cheaper per wash (assuming you use about 1 tablespoon per wash and the powder costs less than $9 per kilogram).

    • +4

Quite the opposite. Powder (when used correctly) is both much cheaper and also much more effective at cleaning.
Plus you can change the dose to your needs. If you have soft water, you can use even less powder than the recommendation.

The key here is when used correctly. Other poeple in my household have trouble using the powder correctly so tablets are a better option.

Honestly, I fail to understand how can you screw up using powdered detergent. Just add some to the main tub and it's already better than using tablets. If you add a sprinkle to secondary pre-wash tub or directly on the door and use a full (auto/eco whatever) cycle - you'll have much better results than with tablets.

Just the fact that tablets are 5-10 times more expensive and use false advertising (like all these separate colored pouches that suppose to "activate" at a different time, but membrane that holds them dissolves at the same time that other components) makes me frown every time I see someone mentioning tablets. To each their own, that's fair, convenience is a thing, but you get screwed in every way possible when using tablets.

@fairgod: Ive tried using powder in my Bosch dishwasher, but it's a real pain. The cover is too small so if I overfill it even a little, it won't close properly. I often end up wasting some of the powder. Honestly I'd rather just chuck in a tablet and forget about it. Plus, I've yet to find a powder that works as well as a tablet.

Also time the prices of tablets are not that much more expensive when you grab them on sale. I'd pay few cents extra for convenience tbh

            • +1

@Gpig: I did a bit of a calculation and compared the cheapest powder with current deal tablets ( https://www.woolworths.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=7… ) and it worked out to be $0.13375 per load for tablets and $0.072 for powder (measured my standard load of powder at 15 grams). So it's almost double, and this is not accounting for deal/promo on powder, I took standard price.

Key with powder is that it is best to also add some to pre-wash cycle. If you do this, you will get much better results. And you will feel so much better about yourself saving a few buck and not allowing shitty companies to fool you into thinking their product is much superior :)

            • @Gpig: If the compartment is that full, it might be a sign that you’re adding too much? Try half filling the main container and leave it at that.
Plus if you have a 2nd half to the compartment then half fill that, otherwise just pop a teaspoon or so into the main dishwasher anywhere - doesn’t matter.

I completely get the convenience - we use tablets at work as it’s just a lot easier than powder when it comes to the “general population” - many of whom don’t seem to care if the dishwasher works well or not.

            • @Gpig: That is why you use a tablespoon to measure it, not just pour it in. Tablets have plastic waste to dispose of so IMO are more of a hassle

      • Thanks for the reply.
Do you recommend any cheap brands of dishwasher powder? I saw Shine (from WW) for $4.80 and Shotz (from TWH) for $5.00

        • +1

I’ll admit I’m lazy when it comes to this. I grab the 2kg Active brand for less than $10 and call it done.

        • Shine tablets are completely useless, I suspect the powder would be the same. Put dishes through 3 times and still not clean in a top end dishwasher

I highly recommend Technology Connections video on dishwashers and detergents specifically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHP942Livy0

This is the latest one of 3 videos he had done and he goes at length explaining how dishwashers work, how detergents work and that the tablets are at best a waste of money and at worst actually can hurt your machine. Especially with such a soft water like here.

      • Would you kindly give me a summary of what is good?

        • +3

Even the cheapest powder will be much better both from performance and financial standpoint. Add powder to fill 1/3rd of the main detergent tub (more powder does not equal better clean, it's mostly needed for hard water, but NZ tap water is VERY soft) AND about the same (I usually add a bit less) amount to the secondary "pre-wash" tub. If you don't have special pre-wash thingy - just sprinkle some right on the dishwasher door. Heat is also a major component, so more heat -> cleaner the dishes.

EDIT: changed the wording a bit explaining how much detergent to use and why

      • Came here to post this. Glad somebody else did.

        We are exciting people.

  • Just bought 2 of them through click n collect

  • Fluctuating in and out of stock online :)

  • Just bought 2 x through Click n Collect. Collecting from Glenfield and it said it had to be shipped to Glenfield.

  • Just bought 2x, shows back in stock online. Thanks!

First time I've seen a click and collect charge at TWH

    • I selected C&C and I don’t see a charge for it on my email invoice?

      • If it is available at your preferrred store then there is no charge for C&C.
However, if it's available to order online but not in stock at your store then you are charged the fee to send it to the store.

        • Ok, didn’t know that. thanks for the info!

    • For it gave me 2 options.. either $2.99 charges if collected from Botany store or free if collected from Manukau store

  • Great deal, thanks :)

Ive paid the c&c charge before but then later had it refunded. Bit weird but I am not going to question a refund lol

    • Just got email…

      Hi wildchild,

Unfortunately we've not been able to locate the following items just yet.

We've got our best people tracking them down for you. This can sometimes add a few additional days to the delivery and we apologise for the delay. We'll get back to you with an update soon

  • They've also got the Finish Classic 110 pack for the same price. Not sure what that normally goes for.

    • They've also got the Finish Classic 110 pack for the same price. Not sure what that normally goes for.

My own experience is that there is no discernible difference between the two products so, personally, I would regard that as a good deal too as I have not seen 'Classic' at less than 14 per each for some time either.

      • Yep, looking back at previous Cheapies deals $22 - $25 this year. Have to go back to 2022 for it to be around this price.

Have bagged three boxes for collection (no charge as in stock at my local).

        • Yep, looking back at previous Cheapies deals $22 - $25 this year. Have to go back to 2022 for it to be around this price.

My own opinion is that $22 for 110 tablets (20c per each) is not actually a 'deal'.

Until maybe a year / 18 months ago, I would say that 10c per each was a great deal, and 12c was a regular deal. Now, I'd say 16c is a regular deal, and 14c is great. No way I would want to pay 20c at this point in time.

        • Meh, one box is ready for collection, one has just been refunded with no reason given and one is still showing pending.

  • Just came back from mitre10, 5 boxes price matched.

    • How did you do more than 1? In person? I can only do 1 via online form

      • +1

        In store

    • Pricebeat or pricematch?

  • Question for anyone who use Powder successfully, do you use Rinse Aid at all ?

    • I didn't use rinse aid, I usually just open the dishwasher door after 30 minutes the washing done, and let it dry overnight.

    • Yup - any rinse aid will do. Someone recently mentioned Nisbets sell bulk and so when my current bottle runs out, I might be ordering a lifetime supply (5L) from there haha.

Agreee with doubledippps that leaving the door open overnight will definitely dry it out. But rinse aid makes a big difference to things such as plastics which are almost completely dry when the cycle finishes when used.

      • I don't bother with rinse-aid either - even the plastics are dry by the morning if you leave the door open overnight.

Rinse-aid just seems to be adding additional cost unnecessarily, but then I'm using tablets, rather than powder, so that's a bit rich coming from me!

  • My order was cancelled

    • Same :(

      • Mine too :-(

        • +1

Bit strange. Ordered three of the classic boxes online for click & collect.
On that same day I had a notification one was ready for collection and updates would follow for the remainder.
A couple days ago I was then told one box was cancelled and money came back to card overnight yesterday.
Today in another email I was told two boxes have been cancelled and also one box was waiting for collection.

Unsure if I'm going to get refunded for two or all three boxes now.

Either way, I collected the one box ready for collection this afternoon without any dramas. There were also 4 boxes still on the shelf with a clearance price tag of $14.98. So swiped that lot too.

Currently have 5 boxes on the shelf in the garage and will have to do the math on what thats cost me depending how the second refund shakes out.
